Chapter 9 - The Boss Who Chose Between Power and Love

Vincent stood outside the abandoned chapel holding the photograph of Isabella Marlowe: "My mother is alive." When Vincent Moretti entered the forgotten chapel, he discovered a hidden room beneath the altar containing Isabella’s final confession. But one sentence changed everything: "I protected Elena from her real father." Vincent realized the truth was not about who betrayed the Moretti family.
It was about who Elena was running from.
The old chapel had been abandoned for fifteen years.
Nobody came there.
Nobody prayed there.
Nobody even mentioned it.
Because the Moretti family had a habit of burying things that threatened their power.
Vincent pushed the heavy wooden door open.
The photograph was still in his hand.
Isabella.
Alive.
Standing beside Marcus.
The woman everyone believed was gone.
The woman Elena had cried over her entire life.
The woman Vincent's family had blamed for everything.
His footsteps echoed through the empty chapel.
"Marcus."
His voice carried through the darkness.
No answer.
Only silence.
Then a candle flickered near the altar.
Marcus stepped out from behind the shadows.
Older.
Tired.
But still dangerous.
Vincent immediately reached for his weapon.
"You have five seconds to explain."
Marcus didn't move.
"You always were your father's son."
Vincent's eyes hardened.
"Don't mention him."
Marcus looked at the photograph.
"You deserve the truth."
"Where is Isabella?"
Marcus didn't answer.
Instead, he pointed toward the altar.
"She left something for you."
Vincent stared.
"You expect me to believe you?"
"No."
Marcus shook his head.
"I expect you to believe her."
The words made Vincent pause.
Because Marcus sounded different.
Not like an enemy.
Like someone carrying a burden.
Vincent walked toward the altar.
Behind it was a small wooden panel.
Hidden for years.
He opened it.
Inside was a key.
And a letter.
The handwriting was familiar.
Isabella.
His hands tightened.
He opened it.
Vincent,
If you are reading this, then everything I tried to prevent has happened.
The truth is coming back.
But before you judge Elena, remember this:
She was the person I protected.
Not the person I feared.
Vincent stopped.
He continued reading.
Your father was not the only person who lied.
I lied too.
Because I had no other choice.
The letter ended with one sentence.
The one that made his heart stop.
Elena is not my daughter by blood.
Vincent slowly lowered the paper.
The room became silent.
Marcus watched him.
"You understand now."
Vincent looked up.
"No."
His voice was cold.
"I understand nothing."
Marcus stepped closer.
"Elena doesn't know."
"Know what?"
Marcus hesitated.
Then said:
"Who her real father is."
Back at the mansion, Elena stood in her room staring at the photograph.
The one she found hidden in the library.
Her hands trembled.
Her whole life had been built around one truth.
Isabella was her mother.
Now even that was being questioned.
A knock came at the door.
She quickly hid the picture.
"Come in."
Celeste entered.
For once, she did not look powerful.
She looked exhausted.
Elena immediately noticed.
"What do you want?"
Celeste closed the door.
"I need to tell you something."
Elena remained silent.
Because she had learned one thing about the Moretti mansion.
Every truth came with a price.
Celeste looked at the photograph in Elena's hand.
"You found it."
Elena froze.
"You knew?"
Celeste nodded.
"Yes."
"Everyone knew."
Her voice cracked.
"Everyone except me."
Celeste looked down.
"That was the point."
Elena laughed quietly.
"You sound like my mother."
The words hurt Celeste.
Because she deserved them.
"You think I am your enemy."
"Aren't you?"
Celeste didn't answer.
That was answer enough.
Elena stepped closer.
"You helped them."
Celeste looked at her.
"I did things I regret."
"Like what?"
A long silence.
"Like protecting people who didn't deserve protection."
Elena studied her.
For the first time, she saw something behind Celeste's arrogance.
Regret.
Real regret.
"Why are you telling me this now?"
Celeste looked toward the window.
"Because Marcus is not the biggest threat."
Elena frowned.
"Then who is?"
Celeste looked at her.
"The person who created Marcus."
At the chapel, Vincent finished reading the letter.
He looked at Marcus.
"Where is Isabella?"
Marcus stayed silent.
"Tell me."
A long pause.
"She left."
Vincent's expression changed.
"Left?"
"She survived."
The words felt impossible.
"Then why didn't she come back?"
Marcus looked away.
"Because she believed someone would kill Elena."
Vincent remembered the warning.
The hidden files.
The lies.
Everything.
"Who?"
Marcus didn't answer.
Instead, he looked at the photograph.
"Elena was born from a secret that could destroy two families."
Vincent stepped closer.
"Who is her father?"
Marcus looked at him.
And for the first time, Vincent saw fear in his eyes.
Not fake fear.
Real fear.
"Your uncle."
Vincent froze.
"My uncle died before I was born."
"No."
Marcus shook his head.
"Your family said he died."
The room became cold.
"His name was Adrian Moretti."
Vincent knew the name.
Everyone did.
The forgotten Moretti heir.
The man erased from family history.
The man whose existence was never discussed.
"That's impossible."
Marcus looked at him.
"Your father spent fifteen years hiding that his own brother had a daughter."
Vincent stared.
"Elena."
Marcus nodded.
"Elena is the last living connection to Adrian Moretti."
When Vincent returned to the mansion, Elena was waiting.
She immediately knew something had happened.
His expression told her.
"What did you find?"
Vincent looked at her.
For a moment, he wanted to lie.
To protect her.
Like everyone else had.
But he couldn't.
Not anymore.
"I found out there are more secrets."
Elena smiled sadly.
"Of course there are."
Vincent stepped closer.
"Elena."
She looked at him.
"I need you to know something."
"What?"
He struggled with the words.
Because they could change her entire life.
"Your mother wasn't hiding you because she was ashamed."
Elena's eyes filled.
"Then why?"
Vincent didn't answer immediately.
Because the truth was still too heavy.
Before he could speak, every light in the mansion turned off.
Again.
The same darkness.
The same silence.
Vincent immediately reached for his weapon.
Elena stepped back.
A sound came from the entrance hall.
A single person walking.
Slowly.
Calmly.
Someone who wasn't afraid.
The emergency lights turned on.
And everyone froze.
Because standing at the mansion entrance...
Was a woman Vincent had spent fifteen years believing was dead.
Isabella Marlowe looked at Elena.

Then whispered:
"My daughter..."
