Chapter 5 - The Night the Truth Entered the Mansion

The mansion’s lights went out as Celeste stood in the darkness: "You should have never opened that drawer, Vincent." When Vincent Moretti searched the hidden basement beneath the estate, he discovered an old security file containing Isabella Marlowe’s final night. But one name appeared on the report that shocked him: "Celeste Vane." Vincent realized the woman beside him had been connected to the secret all along.

The darkness lasted only seven seconds.

But seven seconds were enough to change everything.

Vincent stood completely still.

He couldn't see Celeste.

But he could hear her breathing.

Calm.

Controlled.

Like someone who had already prepared for this moment.

The emergency lights finally turned on.

A dim red glow filled the hallway.

Celeste stood near the doorway.

Her face was unreadable.

But Vincent noticed something.

She wasn't surprised.

She wasn't confused.

She looked like someone who had been waiting.

"How long?"

Vincent's voice was quiet.

Celeste didn't answer.

"How long have you known about Isabella?"

Her eyes moved slightly.

A small reaction.

But enough.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Vincent laughed softly.

Not because it was funny.

Because he finally understood something.

Celeste had always been good at hiding things.

But she had never been good at hiding from him.

"You're lying."

The words hit harder than anger.

Celeste stepped closer.

"Vincent."

"No."

He held up the document.

"You don't get to call my name like nothing happened."

For the first time, her expression cracked.

Only for a moment.

Then it returned.

"You found something."

Not a question.

A statement.

Vincent stared at her.

"You knew I would."

Celeste remained silent.

That silence was her answer.

Three hours earlier.

Before the lights went out.

Vincent had gone beneath the mansion.

A place only the Moretti family knew existed.

The old underground archive.

The place where his father stored everything too dangerous to destroy.

Business records.

Confidential files.

Family secrets.

And things that could ruin powerful people.

Margaret had warned him.

"Your father didn't hide the truth because he wanted to protect himself."

She had looked at Vincent with tired eyes.

"He hid it because he knew someone would kill for it."

Vincent had asked one question.

"Who?"

Margaret didn't answer.

Instead, she gave him a key.

The same key found inside Isabella's jewelry box.

"Your mother gave this to me before she disappeared."

Vincent had taken it.

And now, standing inside the underground archive, he finally understood why.

The key opened a small metal cabinet hidden behind old documents.

Inside was a file.

No label.

No date.

Only one symbol.

The Moretti family crest.

But the crest had been crossed out.

Vincent opened it.

The first page was a security report.

Date:

Fifteen years ago.

Location:

Moretti Mansion.

Incident:

Unauthorized removal of Isabella Marlowe.

Vincent froze.

Not disappearance.

Not betrayal.

Removal.

Someone had removed her.

Like she was an object.

He continued reading.

Security footage erased.

Witnesses threatened.

Records altered.

Then he reached the final page.

The page that changed everything.

A list of people who had access that night.

His father.

Margaret Hale.

The head guards.

And one unexpected name.

Celeste Vane.

Vincent returned to the hallway.

And now she stood in front of him.

The woman he was supposed to marry.

The woman his family trusted.

The woman everyone believed would become the future queen of the Moretti empire.

"You were there."

Celeste looked at him.

"Yes."

The answer came too easily.

Vincent's eyes narrowed.

"You admit it?"

"I was there."

"Why?"

Celeste looked away.

For the first time, she looked tired.

Not powerful.

Not untouchable.

Just tired.

"Because my father sent me."

Vincent said nothing.

Celeste continued.

"My father worked with yours."

"Doing what?"

Her silence returned.

"Celeste."

She closed her eyes.

"They were trying to protect the family."

Vincent's expression hardened.

"By destroying Isabella?"

"No."

Celeste looked at him.

"By hiding what Isabella found."

That sentence changed the direction of everything.

"What did she find?"

Celeste looked toward Elena's room upstairs.

And Vincent followed her eyes.

"She discovered that the Moretti empire had another heir."

The air disappeared from the room.

Vincent's hand tightened.

"What?"

Celeste spoke slowly.

"Your father had a child before your mother."

Vincent stared.

"That's impossible."

"No."

Celeste shook her head.

"What's impossible is how long they kept it hidden."

His mind immediately went to Elena.

The birth record.

The document.

The name.

Elena Marlowe.

"No."

The word escaped before he could stop it.

Celeste looked at him.

"You already know."

Vincent turned away.

Because he did.

And he hated that he did.

Meanwhile, Elena sat alone in her room.

She had heard voices.

She had heard Vincent and Celeste arguing.

But she didn't know why.

She looked at the old photograph of her mother.

The same question kept returning.

Why did everyone lie?

Why did everyone protect the truth except her?

A knock came at the door.

Elena quickly hid the photograph.

"Come in."

Margaret entered.

Her face was pale.

"Elena."

Something about her voice made Elena stand.

"What happened?"

Margaret closed the door.

"You need to leave."

Elena froze.

"Why?"

"Because Vincent found the file."

Elena looked confused.

"What file?"

Margaret hesitated.

"The one your mother died trying to protect."

The room became silent.

Elena whispered:

"What was inside?"

Margaret looked at her.

"Proof."

"Proof of what?"

The old woman stepped closer.

"That your mother was never trying to destroy the Moretti family."

A pause.

"She was trying to save it."

Vincent returned to the archive alone.

He needed answers.

Not from Celeste.

Not from Margaret.

From the person who started everything.

His father.

He searched through the remaining files.

Then he found another envelope.

No name.

No mark.

Only one sentence.

For Vincent.

His hands went cold.

Inside was a letter.

His father's handwriting.

Vincent,

If you discover Elena's identity, understand this.

She is not your enemy.

She is the last person who can expose the truth.

But protect her carefully.

Because the people who wanted Isabella gone will not stop.

They will come for her next.

Vincent read the final line.

And his heart stopped.

The person who ordered Isabella's disappearance is still waiting for Elena to remember who she really is.

A sound came from behind him.

A door opening.

Slowly.

Vincent turned.

Nobody was supposed to know this room existed.

Nobody.

But someone was standing there.

Holding a gun.

And the person said:

May you like

"Hello, Vincent."

It was Elena.
