Chapter 9 - The Brother Who Was Never Lost

A man appeared on the security screen and whispered: "Adrian, you spent years searching for the wrong enemy."

When Adrian Valenti tracked the signal from Marcus Valenti’s message, he discovered a hidden room containing his father’s final recording. But one sentence was written on the wall: "Marcus was never the traitor." Adrian realized the person he trusted least had been protecting him all along.

The name on the phone screen remained there.

Marcus Valenti.

Adrian stared at it.

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone in the room understood what that name meant.

Marcus was not just another enemy.

Marcus was family.

The uncle who raised him.

The man who stood beside him after his mother disappeared.

The man who helped Adrian rebuild the Valenti empire.

The man Adrian trusted more than anyone alive.

And now...

he was the one who had been hiding everything.

"Impossible," Daniel whispered.

Adrian slowly looked at him.

"You knew his name would appear."

Daniel looked away.

That was the answer.

Adrian felt something inside him break again.

"Another secret."

Daniel closed his eyes.

"I didn't know everything."

"But you knew enough."

Daniel didn't argue.

Because he did.

He had spent years protecting Adrian from the truth.

But protecting someone with lies was still betrayal.

Elena watched Adrian carefully.

She saw the anger.

The confusion.

The pain.

She knew that feeling.

Because she had lived with it for years.

"Adrian."

He didn't look at her.

"What?"

"Don't go after him alone."

A small silence followed.

Normally, nobody would dare say that to Adrian Valenti.

But Elena did.

And somehow...

he listened.

"Why?"

"Because that's what he wants."

Adrian finally looked at her.

Elena stepped closer.

"If Marcus has been watching us this entire time, he knows exactly how you think."

A pause.

"He knows you will chase answers."

Adrian looked at the phone again.

The message remained.

I know because I was the one who hid them.

His jaw tightened.

"Then he knows I will find him."

Isabella shook her head.

"No."

Everyone turned toward her.

She looked terrified.

"Marcus doesn't want you to find him."

Adrian frowned.

"Then what does he want?"

Isabella looked at the children.

"He wants you to come to him."

The words created silence.

Because that was different.

This wasn't a threat.

It was an invitation.

A trap.

Or something worse.

Adrian looked at Marcus's message again.

"What does he know about the children?"

Isabella hesitated.

Too long.

Adrian noticed.

"What?"

She looked down.

"There is one more thing your father kept from you."

Adrian's expression darkened.

"I am tired of hearing that sentence."

Isabella took a breath.

"When Lily was born, Marcus was the first person who found out."

Elena froze.

"What?"

Isabella continued.

"He knew about her before anyone else."

Adrian looked at Elena.

She looked just as shocked.

"Why?"

Isabella looked at Adrian.

"Because Marcus was the one who helped you and Elena escape."

Nobody moved.

The words made no sense.

Marcus.

The man Adrian believed controlled everything.

The man connected to the secrets.

Had helped them?

"No."

Daniel stepped forward.

"Mother..."

Isabella looked at him.

"It's true."

Daniel looked confused.

"You never told me."

"Because Marcus asked me not to."

Adrian laughed quietly.

Another secret.

Another hidden truth.

"So Marcus saved Elena."

Isabella nodded.

"And then he disappeared."

"Why?"

"Because your father found out."

Adrian's face changed.

His father.

Again.

Everything always returned to him.

A dead man who still controlled their lives.

"Where is Marcus now?"

Nobody answered.

Then the security system suddenly activated again.

A red light flashed above the hidden room.

Everyone looked up.

A voice came through the speakers.

Not a recording.

A live connection.

"Adrian."

Everyone froze.

Because they knew that voice.

Marcus.

Adrian walked toward the speaker.

"You have been watching."

A quiet laugh came through.

"Of course."

"Where are you?"

"Closer than you think."

Adrian looked around.

His men immediately checked the hallway.

"You had access to my building."

"Yes."

"How?"

A pause.

Then Marcus answered:

"Because your father gave me everything."

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

"My father is dead."

"Is he?"

The room went silent.

Adrian stopped.

"What did you say?"

Marcus didn't answer.

Instead, the screen changed.

An old video appeared.

A man sitting in a chair.

Older.

Weak.

But alive.

Adrian stopped breathing.

Because he recognized the face.

His father.

The man who supposedly died ten years ago.

The man whose funeral Adrian attended.

The man whose grave he visited.

Alive.

The recording began.

Adrian's father looked directly into the camera.

"If you are watching this..."

A pause.

"...then Marcus failed to keep you away from the truth."

Adrian stepped closer.

The room disappeared around him.

His father continued.

"You probably hate him."

A small smile appeared on the recording.

"You probably believe he betrayed you."

Adrian looked at Marcus's name on the screen.

"That is exactly what I wanted."

Elena whispered:

"No..."

The recording continued.

"Because the only way to protect Adrian was to make him hate the person protecting him."

Nobody spoke.

Adrian felt his hands become cold.

His father continued:

"Marcus, if you are showing him this, it means I am no longer in control."

A pause.

"And it means Adrian finally found the last secret."

The screen flickered.

A final image appeared.

A hospital document.

A birth certificate.

Adrian stared.

Because the name on it wasn't Lily.

It wasn't Sophia.

It was his.

The recording ended with his father's final words:

"Adrian was not my first child."

The screen went black.

Nobody moved.

Then a door behind them slowly opened.

A man stepped into the hidden room.

Older.

Scarred.

Carrying a folder.

Adrian turned around.

Because the man looked exactly like him.

May you like

And the stranger whispered:

"Hello, brother."
