Chapter 4 - The Secret Written in Blood

A baby monitor fell from my hands as I whispered: "No... please don't let him hear this."
When Adrian Valenti opened the hidden phone inside Lily’s stroller, he discovered a recorded message from the brother he thought was dead. But the final words were: "Adrian, she's been protecting our daughter from me." Adrian realized the truth was far more dangerous than he imagined.
The darkness inside the nightclub felt endless.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Everyone waited for Adrian’s reaction.
Because everyone in the room knew one thing.
Adrian Valenti was dangerous when he was angry.
But nobody knew what he would do when he was betrayed.
The phone continued ringing inside the stroller.
The caller name remained on the screen.
Daniel.
Adrian stared at it.
His hand hovered above the device.
For five years, he had searched for his brother.
For five years, he had buried the pain.
And now...
Daniel was calling him.
From a phone hidden beside a baby.
A baby who might be his.
Adrian slowly picked up the phone.
He answered.
At first, there was only silence.
Then a voice.
Older.
Tired.
Broken.
"Adrian."
Everyone froze.
Elena covered her mouth.
She knew that voice.
She had heard it before.
Late at night.
In whispered conversations.
In promises that were never kept.
Daniel.
"Where are you?" Adrian asked.
His voice was controlled.
Too controlled.
A person who didn't know him would think he was calm.
But Elena saw his hand tightening around the phone.
Daniel sighed.
"I don't have much time."
"Five years."
Adrian’s voice became colder.
"Five years, Daniel."
Silence.
"You let me believe you were dead."
"I was trying to protect you."
Adrian laughed once.
A bitter sound.
"Protect me?"
His eyes moved toward Elena.
"By leaving your daughter with a woman who had to dance in a nightclub to survive?"
Elena looked down.
Daniel went silent.
And that silence answered everything.
Adrian’s expression changed.
"You knew."
A pause.
"You knew she was alive."
"Yes."
"And you knew Lily was my daughter."
Another silence.
Then Daniel whispered:
"Yes."
The entire room disappeared for Adrian.
The music.
The people.
The lights.
Everything.
Only one sentence remained.
My daughter.
He looked at Lily.
The baby sleeping peacefully.
The child he had unknowingly protected every night from across the room.
The child connected to the family secret that destroyed his life.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Daniel didn't answer immediately.
Because the truth was worse than any lie.
"Because if you knew, they would come after her."
"Who?"
"Everyone who wanted our family gone."
Adrian looked toward the woman standing nearby.
The woman who brought the envelope.
The woman who knew everything.
"Was she involved?"
Daniel didn't answer.
That was enough.
Adrian turned toward her.
"Who are you?"
The woman smiled.
"My name is Victoria Kane."
Adrian’s eyes narrowed.
The name meant something.
Not personally.
Historically.
Victoria Kane was connected to one of the most powerful families in the city.
A family that had fought against the Valenti empire for decades.
A family that had disappeared after Daniel vanished.
"What do you want?"
Victoria looked at Elena.
"She knows."
Elena immediately shook her head.
"No."
Victoria smiled.
"Still protecting him."
Adrian stepped forward.
"Stop talking in riddles."
Victoria looked at him.
"Five years ago, Daniel discovered your father’s real business records."
Adrian froze.
His father.
The man who built the Valenti name.
The man Adrian had spent his life trying to understand.
"What records?"
"The ones showing your family wasn't destroyed by enemies."
A pause.
"It was destroyed from inside."
Adrian said nothing.
Because part of him had always suspected it.
The night Daniel disappeared.
The night their home was attacked.
The night everything changed.
Too many things had never made sense.
"Where is Daniel now?"
Victoria smiled.
"You still think he's the one hiding."
Adrian stared at her.
"What does that mean?"
Before Victoria could answer, the nightclub doors slammed open.
Adrian’s security team immediately raised their weapons.
A man entered.
Older.
Scarred.
Wearing a dark coat.
Everyone stepped back.
Except Elena.
Because she knew him.
Her face turned pale.
"Daniel..."
Adrian turned.
For the first time in five years.
His brother stood in front of him.
Alive.
But not the man he remembered.
Daniel looked exhausted.
Broken.
Like someone who had spent years running from something worse than death.
Adrian stared at him.
No words came.
Daniel looked at Lily.
Then at Elena.
Then finally at Adrian.
"I wanted to tell you."
Adrian’s voice was almost silent.
"You had five years."
Daniel lowered his eyes.
"I know."
A painful silence passed.
Then Adrian stepped closer.
"Why?"
Daniel looked at him.
And whispered:
"Because Lily isn't the only child I was protecting."
Adrian stopped.
Elena’s face changed.
"No."
Daniel looked toward the entrance.
"She found us."
Everyone turned.
A black car stopped outside the nightclub.
The door opened.
A woman stepped out.
A woman Elena recognized immediately.
A woman who had been searching for Lily since the day she was born.
Daniel whispered:
"Adrian..."
His face turned pale.
"Your mother is alive."
The nightclub went silent.
Because Adrian’s mother had died twelve years ago.
At least...
that was what everyone believed.

The woman entered the building.
And she was holding the same bracelet Lily wore...
