Chapter 3 - The Man Behind the Door

A woman grabbed my arm outside the nightclub and whispered: "Elena, you need to run before he finds her."

When Adrian Valenti followed the stranger into the alley, he discovered an old hospital bracelet hidden inside a black envelope. But one name was written across the faded plastic: "Lily Valenti." Adrian realized someone had been waiting five years for this moment.

The nightclub doors closed behind them.

The music disappeared.

The laughter disappeared.

Only silence remained.

Elena stood frozen near the entrance, staring at the message Adrian had found.

Bring Lily home, Adrian.

Four words.

Four words that destroyed everything she had tried to protect.

She looked at Adrian’s face.

For the first time since meeting him, she saw something different.

Not anger.

Not suspicion.

Fear.

"You know who sent that," Elena whispered.

Adrian didn’t answer.

His eyes remained fixed on the photograph attached to the message.

A man standing outside the nightclub.

The image was blurry.

The lighting was poor.

But Adrian knew that face.

He had spent five years searching for it.

Five years believing it belonged to a dead man.

Daniel Valenti.

His younger brother.

The same brother who disappeared the night their family was attacked.

The same brother everyone believed had betrayed them.

The same brother whose disappearance turned Adrian into the cold man he was today.

But now...

Daniel was sending messages.

Daniel knew about Lily.

And Daniel knew Adrian was here.

"Who took this picture?" Adrian asked.

Elena shook her head.

"I don't know."

"You expect me to believe that?"

"I don't care what you believe."

Her answer surprised him.

Most people would have lowered their voice.

Apologized.

Begged.

Elena didn't.

She stepped closer to the stroller and placed her hand protectively over Lily.

"You need to understand something, Adrian."

His eyes moved to her.

"I don't care about your family war."

A pause.

"I don't care about your money."

Another pause.

"And I don't care about your power."

Her voice became softer.

"I only care that my daughter wakes up tomorrow."

Those words hit harder than any threat.

Because Adrian understood them.

He had spent years protecting his empire.

His territory.

His name.

But Elena was protecting something more fragile.

A child.

A life.

A future.

Adrian looked at Lily again.

The baby was sleeping peacefully.

Completely unaware that powerful people were fighting over secrets connected to her.

"What happened five years ago?" Adrian asked.

Elena looked away.

"I can't tell you."

"You already know I'm involved."

"I know."

"Then why keep lying?"

Her eyes returned to his.

"Because everyone who knew the truth ended up dead."

The words were quiet.

But they changed the air around them.

Adrian studied her face.

He wanted to believe she was exaggerating.

He wanted to believe she was manipulating him.

But something stopped him.

Elena looked like someone who had been carrying fear alone for too long.

Not someone creating it.

A sound suddenly came from outside.

A car door closing.

Then another.

Adrian immediately turned toward the entrance.

His men noticed too.

Two guards moved closer.

"Boss."

Adrian raised his hand.

Everyone stopped.

Because he heard it.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Confident.

Someone was walking toward the nightclub.

Someone who wasn't afraid of entering Adrian Valenti's territory.

The door opened.

A woman stepped inside.

She looked around thirty.

Dark hair.

Elegant clothes.

Cold eyes.

Elena’s face changed instantly.

"No..."

Adrian noticed.

"You know her."

Elena whispered:

"She's the reason I ran."

The woman smiled.

Not warmly.

Not kindly.

Like someone who had already won.

"Hello, Elena."

The entire room became silent.

Adrian watched Elena carefully.

The woman looked toward Lily.

Then smiled.

"So she really survived."

Adrian’s expression hardened.

"Who are you?"

The woman ignored him.

She looked directly at Elena.

"You should have disappeared when I gave you the chance."

Elena moved in front of the stroller.

"You said she would be safe."

The woman's smile faded.

"No."

A pause.

"I said she would be safe if you stayed quiet."

Adrian stepped forward.

"You have five seconds to explain why you know my brother's daughter."

The woman finally looked at him.

And smiled.

"Your brother's daughter?"

She laughed softly.

"Adrian... you still believe Daniel was the victim."

The words struck him.

"What does that mean?"

The woman reached into her purse.

She removed a small envelope.

Then placed it on the table.

"Open it."

Nobody moved.

Adrian stared at the envelope.

Something about it felt familiar.

Old.

Dangerous.

He picked it up.

Inside was a document.

A birth record.

A DNA report.

And one photograph.

Adrian looked at the picture first.

Then the report.

Then the name.

His hands stopped moving.

Because the truth written on that paper wasn't about Daniel.

It was about him.

Elena saw his expression.

"Adrian..."

He looked at her.

His voice was barely a whisper.

"Why does this say I'm Lily's father?"

The room went completely silent.

Elena's eyes filled with tears.

Because she knew the secret she had buried was finally coming back.

The woman smiled.

And before anyone could react, every light inside the nightclub suddenly went out.

A single phone rang in the darkness.

Not Elena's.

Not Adrian's.

Not his guards'.

May you like

A hidden phone inside the baby stroller.

And when Adrian reached for it, the caller name appeared...
