Chapter 4 - The Truth Behind The Explosion That Took My Family

A phone fell from my bodyguard’s hand and shattered on the floor:
"Sir... every emergency line is showing the same message."
When Adrian Moretti checked the security system, he discovered a hidden video file uploaded three years earlier.
The file was named:
"Isabella's Final Warning."
And the first frame showed my wife standing alive the night she disappeared.
Every phone in the mansion kept ringing.
One after another.
The sound filled the room.
It wasn't normal.
It wasn't an accident.
Someone wanted us to hear it.
Victor looked at the phones and his face changed.
Not surprise.
Not confusion.
Fear.
I noticed.
And I remembered something Isabella used to tell me.
"Adrian, the most dangerous people are not the ones who make you afraid. They are the ones who know exactly when to pretend they aren't."
For three years, I searched for the person who destroyed my family.
I searched enemies.
Rivals.
People who hated me.
But I never searched the people who stood beside me.
Because I believed trust was something you earned once.
I was wrong.
I looked at Victor.
"Answer one question."
He stayed silent.
"Did you know Isabella was alive?"
Victor looked at the floor.
That was enough.
I didn't need an answer.
The truth was already there.
"You knew."
His voice became quiet.
"Yes."
The word felt heavier than any weapon.
Lily looked between us.
"Why is everyone lying?"
That question broke something inside me.
Because she was right.
Everyone had answers.
Everyone had secrets.
And the only person who didn't know anything was me.
I moved closer to Victor.
"You were at the funeral."
He nodded.
"You stood beside me."
Another nod.
"You watched me believe my wife and daughter were dead."
Victor closed his eyes.
"Yes."
My anger rose.
"Why?"
He looked at Lily.
"Because Isabella asked me to."
I almost laughed.
"Everyone keeps saying that."
I held up the letter.
"My wife trusted you."
Victor nodded.
"She did."
"Then why did she leave me?"
His expression changed.
"Because she wasn't trying to leave you."
The room became silent.
"She was trying to save you."
I stared at him.
"Save me from who?"
Victor didn't answer immediately.
And that hesitation told me the answer was worse than I imagined.
Before he could speak, the lights flickered.
The security screens turned black.
Marco immediately moved toward the control panel.
"We lost the cameras."
I looked at him.
"Can you restore them?"
He tried.
Nothing.
Then one monitor turned back on.
Only one.
A file appeared.
No one touched the computer.
No one opened anything.
The file simply appeared.
The name was:
ISABELLA_MORETTI_FINAL_MESSAGE.
My breathing stopped.
Victor whispered:
"She wanted you to see this."
I moved closer.
Marco looked at me.
"Sir, are you sure?"
No.
I wasn't sure about anything anymore.
But I clicked the file.
The screen went dark.
Then a video started.
A woman appeared.
Isabella.
Alive.
Sitting in a room I didn't recognize.
Her hair was different.
She looked tired.
Scared.
But she was alive.
My hand moved toward the screen without thinking.
"Isabella..."
Lily saw her mother.
"Mommy."
Her small voice filled the room.
The video Isabella looked directly into the camera.
Like she knew I would watch this someday.
"Adrian..."
Her voice broke.
"If you are seeing this, then I failed."
I couldn't move.
"I tried to protect Lily."
She looked down.
"I tried to protect you."
The video shook slightly.
Like she was recording while hiding.
"Three years ago, the explosion was not meant to kill us."
My heart stopped.
"It was meant to erase evidence."
Victor looked away.
I noticed.
"You need to understand something, Adrian."
Isabella's eyes filled with tears.
"The people who planned this did not want me dead."
A pause.
"They wanted me silent."
I leaned closer.
"Why?"
The video continued.
"Because I found out what they were doing with our company."
I frowned.
"Our company?"
Isabella looked terrified.
"They were using your businesses to move money, information, and secrets."
My mind raced.
Someone had used my empire.
Someone close.
Someone with access.
Someone I trusted.
"I tried to tell you."
Her voice became softer.
"But every message I sent disappeared."
Every muscle in my body tightened.
"Every person I trusted was already being watched."
She looked directly into the camera.
"Even the people who promised to protect you."
I looked at Marco.
Then Victor.
Both men looked uncomfortable.
The video continued.
"The night of the explosion, I learned who was behind everything."
My fingers tightened around the wheelchair.
"Who?"
Isabella looked away from the camera.
Then she whispered:
"Adrian, the person who betrayed us was..."
The video suddenly froze.
The screen distorted.
Then went black.
"No."
I hit the table beside me.
"Play it again."
Marco tried.
Nothing.
Victor stepped forward.
"Someone interrupted the connection."
I turned toward him.
"You know who."
He didn't answer.
"Victor."
His face became serious.
"There is something you need to know."
"What?"
"The explosion was not the first attempt."
The room became silent.
"What are you talking about?"
Victor looked at Lily.
"Before the explosion, someone tried to take Lily."
My blood turned cold.
"When?"
"When she was born."
I stared at him.
Impossible.
"My daughter was with Isabella."
"Yes."
"Then how?"
Victor looked at the floor.
"Because someone inside the hospital changed the records."
I couldn't breathe.
For years, I believed the explosion was the beginning.
But it wasn't.
It was the ending of a plan that started much earlier.
Someone had been watching my family since Lily was born.
Someone had been waiting.
I looked at Lily.
She was holding the necklace tightly.
"Mommy said never give this to anyone."
I knelt closer as much as my wheelchair allowed.
"Why?"
She touched the necklace.
"Because it shows who my real family is."
I looked at the necklace.
Then I noticed something.
The back of the silver pendant had a tiny opening.
Something was hidden inside.
I carefully opened it.
A small piece of paper folded perfectly.
My hands trembled as I unfolded it.
Only one sentence was written.
But I recognized the handwriting immediately.
Isabella.
"Adrian, if Victor is standing beside you, then he already knows the truth."
I slowly looked up.
Victor's face changed.
"What does it say?"
I didn't answer.
Because there was another line beneath it.
A line I hadn't seen before.
A line that changed everything.
"Do not trust Victor Hale."
The room froze.
Victor took one step back.
"Adrian..."
My hand moved toward the hidden compartment again.
There was something else inside.
A small memory card.
Marco noticed.
"Sir."
I looked at Victor.
Then at Lily.
Then at the memory card.
Three years of lies.
Three years of unanswered questions.
Everything was inside that tiny piece of plastic.
I reached for the card.
And before my fingers touched it...
The mansion door downstairs opened.
Someone walked inside.
Someone who knew the security codes.
Someone who should have been dead.
May you like
Then Lily looked toward the hallway and whispered:
"Daddy... that's the man mommy was running from."
