Chapter 1 - The Lie They Told Everyone

A pregnant woman reached across the hospital bed, crying: "Please… somebody believe me!"
When Daniel arrived at the emergency room, he carried a torn dress and a prepared story about an accident.
But hidden inside the fabric was a small blood-stained tag with three words written on it:
"She didn't fall."
Daniel suddenly realized someone knew the truth.
My name was Emily Carter, and that night was supposed to be the happiest night of my life.
I was eight months pregnant, carrying the child my husband Daniel and I had dreamed about for years.
I still remembered how he held my hands when the doctor told us we were finally going to become parents.
He cried.
I cried.
We promised each other that nothing would ever separate our family.
But promises can disappear faster than people expect.
That evening, I was sitting in the living room of Daniel's family mansion, waiting for him to come home.
His mother, Margaret, sat across from me.
She had always been polite when Daniel was around.
But whenever we were alone, her smile disappeared.
"You still don't understand what this family expects from you," she said.
I placed my hand over my pregnant belly.
"I don't know what you mean."
Margaret looked at me coldly.
"You think giving Daniel a child makes you equal to us?"
I felt my heart sink.
I wanted to believe I misunderstood her.
I wanted to believe she was just angry.
But then Daniel walked into the room.
And he heard everything.
I looked at him.
I waited for him to defend me.
Instead, he looked away.
That was the moment I knew something had changed.
"Daniel," I whispered.
He didn't answer.
Margaret stood beside him.
"You need to understand something, Emily. This family cannot be embarrassed because of your emotions."
I felt tears forming.
"My emotions?"
Daniel finally spoke.
"Emily, stop making everything dramatic."
Those words hurt more than I expected.
Because the man I loved was standing beside the person hurting me.
Later that night, I went upstairs alone.
I thought maybe Daniel would follow me.
He didn't.
I thought maybe he would apologize.
He didn't.
Instead, I heard his voice downstairs.
Quiet.
Calm.
Talking with his mother.
I slowly walked toward the staircase.
And I heard my husband say something that made my entire body freeze.
"She won't tell anyone. She has nowhere else to go."
I covered my mouth.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
The next morning, everything became worse.
I woke up in the mansion's guest room.
My phone was missing.
The door was locked.
And Daniel was nowhere.
When Margaret entered, she looked completely calm.
Too calm.
"Where is my phone?" I asked.
She smiled.
"Maybe you lost it."
I tried to stand.
My pregnant body felt weak.
Then Daniel entered.
I looked at him with hope.
"Daniel, please help me."
But his expression was different.
There was no concern.
No fear.
Only irritation.
"Emily, you need to stop creating problems."
I stared at him.
"What are you talking about?"
He looked at his mother.
Then back at me.
"You always make yourself the victim."
My eyes filled with tears.
"I am your wife."
He didn't respond.
That afternoon, something happened that changed everything.
I remember the wooden bench.
I remember the cold floor beneath my hands.
I remember begging Daniel to stop.
But the person I trusted most looked away.
Hours later, I woke up in the hospital.
The doctors told everyone I had fallen.
That was the story Daniel gave them.
That was the story Margaret repeated.
But I knew the truth.
And I knew they were afraid I would tell it.
When Daniel walked into my hospital room, he didn't ask if I was okay.
He didn't ask about the baby.
He only leaned closer and whispered:
"You slipped. That's what everyone will remember."
I looked at him silently.
Then the emergency room doors suddenly opened.
A man walked in holding a file with my name on it.
And he said one sentence:
"Emily, I finally found what they tried to hide."
May you like
The entire room went silent...
