Chapter 9 - The Place Where Elena Disappeared

Adrian Vale held the note in his hand.

His fingers tightened around the paper.

Victor Hale.

The name that had haunted the edges of their lives.

The man everyone believed was dead.

The man who had destroyed Clara's childhood.

The man who now had his daughter.

For six years, Adrian had believed the worst thing that happened to his family was Elena's death.

He was wrong.

The worst thing was that someone had been alive all this time.

Watching.

Waiting.

Planning.

"Find him."

Adrian's voice was quiet.

But everyone in the room understood.

The order was not a request.

Marcus immediately grabbed his phone.

"I'll trace every property connected to Victor Hale."

Gabriel shook his head.

"No."

Everyone looked at him.

"You won't find him that way."

Adrian turned.

"Why?"

Gabriel looked at the note.

"Because Victor never existed officially."

Adrian stared.

"What are you talking about?"

Gabriel stepped closer.

"Victor Hale was created."

The room became silent.

"Created?"

Gabriel nodded.

"He changed names. Records. Medical licenses. Everything."

Ward looked down.

"He was a ghost."

Adrian looked at him.

"You knew."

Ward swallowed.

"I knew pieces."

"And you said nothing."

"I was afraid."

Adrian moved closer.

"Everyone was afraid."

His eyes became colder.

"But my daughter wasn't given the luxury of fear."

Nobody answered.

Because he was right.

Clara had spent six years trapped inside a lie.

And now she was somewhere with the man who created it.

Adrian looked at Gabriel.

"You said Elena knew."

Gabriel nodded.

"She discovered Victor was changing medical reports."

"Why?"

"Because Victor believed he could control powerful families by controlling their weaknesses."

Adrian understood.

A family with a sick child.

A desperate father.

A hidden diagnosis.

A perfect way to manipulate someone.

"He wanted leverage."

Gabriel nodded.

"He wanted you."

Adrian's expression changed.

"Me?"

"Your empire."

Gabriel looked away.

"Victor believed the Vale family belonged to him."

The words sounded impossible.

But after everything Adrian had learned...

Nothing seemed impossible anymore.

"Where would he take her?"

Gabriel remained silent.

Adrian stepped forward.

"You know."

Gabriel looked at him.

"Yes."

"Tell me."

A long pause.

Then Gabriel answered.

"The old Hale medical facility."

Marcus immediately reacted.

"That place was destroyed."

Gabriel shook his head.

"Only the front building."

Adrian looked at him.

"What is underneath?"

Gabriel's face became serious.

"A private research center."

Ward whispered:

"Where he tested his methods."

The air changed.

Adrian didn't need more details.

He already understood.

Victor had not taken Clara to hurt her.

He had taken her because she was proof.

Proof that his entire system could work.

Proof that he could rewrite someone's life.

"Take me there."

Marcus looked at him.

"Adrian."

"Now."

"We need backup."

Adrian looked at him.

"My daughter is there."

Nobody argued.

Twenty minutes later, the cars left the mansion.

Adrian sat in the back seat.

The note from Elena remained in his hand.

He read it again.

Not because he needed to.

Because he needed to believe she had written it.

Because every new truth about the past made him question everything.

The woman he loved had known.

She had tried to warn him.

And he had missed every sign.

Gabriel sat across from him.

For the first time, the two brothers were not enemies.

Not completely.

"Why didn't Elena tell me?"

Gabriel looked out the window.

"Because she tried."

Adrian looked at him.

"What?"

Gabriel was silent.

"She tried three times."

The words stopped him.

"Three times?"

Gabriel nodded.

"Every time, something happened."

"What happened?"

"The first time, her phone disappeared."

"The second?"

"Someone broke into your office."

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

"And the third?"

Gabriel looked at him.

"The third time..."

He paused.

"She realized someone close to you was listening."

Adrian thought about Marcus.

Then stopped.

The recording.

Elena's warning.

The person you trust most is not Marcus.

A different thought appeared.

Someone else.

Someone closer.

Someone he had never questioned.

The car stopped.

Marcus opened the door.

"We're here."

Adrian stepped outside.

The old Hale facility stood abandoned.

Broken windows.

Rusting gates.

No signs of life.

But Adrian knew better.

Places like this were never empty.

They were waiting.

They entered through the underground entrance Gabriel remembered.

The deeper they went, the colder it became.

The walls changed.

Old concrete.

Medical rooms.

Locked doors.

Machines covered in dust.

Ward looked around.

"I can't believe this place still exists."

Adrian looked at him.

"You worked here."

Ward didn't answer.

That was enough.

They continued.

Then they found the first clue.

A child's drawing.

Attached to a wall.

A picture of a family.

A father.

A mother.

A little girl.

Adrian recognized it immediately.

Clara's drawing.

His heart tightened.

"She was here."

Gabriel nodded.

They followed the hallway.

At the end was a large glass room.

Inside were hundreds of files.

Medical records.

Photographs.

Videos.

Adrian entered.

And stopped.

Because on the center table was a file with his name.

ADRIAN VALE.

He opened it.

Inside were pages.

Observations.

Weaknesses.

Patterns.

Someone had studied him.

For years.

Then he found the final page.

A handwritten note.

"Subject will sacrifice everything for his daughter."

Adrian closed the file.

Victor wasn't studying him.

He was preparing him.

A sound came from the speakers.

A voice filled the room.

"Welcome back, Adrian."

Everyone froze.

The voice continued.

"You took longer than I expected."

Adrian looked around.

"Where is my daughter?"

A quiet laugh.

"Still the same."

The voice sounded amused.

"Always asking about others before yourself."

Adrian stepped closer to the speaker.

"Show yourself."

The lights turned on.

One room at the end of the hallway illuminated.

Behind the glass.

A small figure sat in a chair.

Clara.

Adrian moved instantly.

But the door remained locked.

"Clara!"

The little girl looked up.

Her eyes filled with tears.

"Daddy!"

Adrian grabbed the door handle.

"Open it."

The voice returned.

"Before you save her..."

A pause.

"You need to see what happened that night."

The screen beside Clara turned on.

A video began playing.

Adrian saw Elena.

Alive.

Six years ago.

Standing inside this facility.

Holding Clara.

And standing beside her...

Was Adrian himself.

But he had no memory of being there.

Then the video froze.

A timestamp appeared.

The night Elena died.

And a second person walked into the room.

May you like

A person Adrian recognized immediately.

Because it was the person who had been beside him every single day since Elena's funeral...
