Chapter 12 - The Daughter He Never Knew About

The phone was still in Grace's hand.

Nobody spoke.

Nobody moved.

Because the voice on the other end belonged to someone who should have been impossible.

Someone from a past she buried.

Someone who knew the truth she had spent six years protecting.

Alessandro watched her face.

He saw the fear.

Not the fear of danger.

The fear of a secret returning.

"Grace."

She didn't answer.

The voice came again.

"Did you finally tell him?"

Her fingers tightened around the phone.

"Who is this?"

A quiet laugh.

A familiar one.

"You know exactly who I am."

Alessandro stepped closer.

"Put it on speaker."

Grace looked at him.

For a moment, she hesitated.

Then she did.

The voice filled the room.

"Hello, Alessandro."

His expression changed.

Because he recognized it.

Not from memory.

From recordings.

From old family files.

The same voice that appeared in the hidden documents.

"Adrian."

Silence.

Then:

"Finally."

Grace closed her eyes.

"You were supposed to be dead."

Adrian laughed softly.

"That is what everyone wanted."

Alessandro looked at her.

"What is he talking about?"

Adrian answered before Grace could.

"She never told you the whole story."

The words landed.

Because Alessandro was tired of incomplete truths.

Tired of everyone deciding what he was allowed to know.

"Then tell me."

A pause.

"Ask Grace why she really left."

Alessandro looked at his wife.

Grace looked away.

And that hurt more than any lie.

Because she wasn't denying it.

"Grace."

Her eyes filled.

"I was going to tell you."

"When?"

She had no answer.

The silence became the answer.

Adrian spoke again.

"She didn't leave because of another woman."

Alessandro's jaw tightened.

"Don't."

"She left because she discovered something about you."

"What?"

Adrian's voice became colder.

"Something your father hid."

Grace whispered:

"Adrian, stop."

But he continued.

"She found out Alessandro was never supposed to inherit the Bellandi empire."

Alessandro stared.

"What does that mean?"

"It means everything you built..."

A pause.

"Everything you sacrificed for..."

"Was never yours."

The call ended.

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Then Alessandro turned toward Grace.

"Is it true?"

She looked at him.

Her eyes were full of regret.

"Partly."

That answer hurt.

"Partly?"

Grace took a breath.

"When I found out I was pregnant, I also found out something else."

"What?"

"Your father left documents."

Alessandro remembered.

The hidden files.

The secrets.

The endless lies.

"What documents?"

Grace sat down slowly.

"Documents about your family."

She looked at Leo sleeping nearby.

"I was scared."

"Of what?"

"Of what would happen if you knew."

Alessandro laughed bitterly.

"You thought I couldn't handle the truth?"

"No."

She shook her head.

"I thought you would destroy yourself trying to fix it."

The room became quiet.

Because she knew him.

Maybe better than anyone.

And that was the problem.

"You don't understand."

Her voice softened.

"I watched you become someone you hated because you thought that was the only way to survive."

Alessandro looked away.

Because it was true.

"When I found those documents, I learned Matteo had been controlling your life since you were young."

Grace continued.

"But there was something else."

"What?"

She looked at him.

"Your father had another child."

Daniel.

Alessandro nodded.

"I know."

"No."

Grace shook her head.

"Not Daniel."

Everyone froze.

Alessandro stared.

"Then who?"

Grace's hands trembled.

"The child your father hid..."

A pause.

"Was a daughter."

Silence.

The words felt impossible.

A daughter.

Another secret.

Another piece of a family he never knew.

"Where is she?"

Grace looked down.

"I don't know."

Alessandro stepped closer.

"Grace."

She finally looked at him.

"I met her once."

"When?"

"Before Leo was born."

Alessandro felt his chest tighten.

"Who was she?"

Grace swallowed.

"Her name was Isabella."

Daniel suddenly looked up.

"Isabella?"

Everyone turned.

Daniel's face changed.

Not confusion.

Recognition.

"You know her."

He slowly nodded.

"Yes."

Alessandro looked at him.

"Who is she?"

Daniel's voice became quiet.

"Your sister."

The room went silent again.

Another sibling.

Another person erased.

Another lie.

Alessandro sat down.

For the first time, he looked exhausted.

Not physically.

Emotionally.

A lifetime of secrets had fallen on him in days.

Grace moved closer.

"Alessandro..."

He looked at her.

"How much more don't I know?"

The question broke her.

Because she didn't have an answer.

That night, nobody slept.

The Bellandi mansion became a place of searching.

Not fighting.

Not revenge.

Searching.

Daniel opened every file his father had hidden.

Marco checked every record.

Victor followed every trace.

And Alessandro sat beside Leo.

Watching his son sleep.

A child he almost never knew.

A child who changed everything.

Grace stood in the doorway.

"You should sleep."

He didn't look back.

"I missed six years."

A pause.

"I don't want to miss another minute."

Her heart tightened.

Because this was the man she remembered.

The man before the power.

Before the walls.

"I was angry at you for so long."

Alessandro looked at her.

"I know."

"But I never stopped loving you."

The honesty surprised him.

She continued.

"I hated that."

A small tear fell.

"Because loving you made leaving harder."

Alessandro stood.

For a moment, they were close.

Not healed.

Not the same.

But close.

"I don't know how to fix this."

Grace looked at him.

"Then don't fix everything at once."

"What do I do?"

"Start by staying."

The answer was simple.

But for Alessandro, it meant everything.

The next morning, Daniel found something.

A hidden file.

Inside the old Bellandi archive.

The file name was:

ISABELLA - FINAL RECORD

Everyone gathered.

Alessandro opened it.

Inside was a birth certificate.

A photograph.

And a letter.

The photograph showed a young woman.

She looked familiar.

Not because Alessandro knew her.

Because she had his eyes.

His father's eyes.

Daniel read the letter.

Then stopped.

"What?"

Alessandro asked.

Daniel looked up.

"This was written by Isabella."

"Read it."

Daniel hesitated.

Then began.

"If Alessandro ever finds this, tell him I did not leave because I hated him."

Alessandro froze.

The letter continued.

"I left because Matteo told me the same thing he told everyone."

A pause.

"He told me Alessandro was dangerous."

Grace covered her mouth.

Daniel kept reading.

"He told me if Alessandro knew I existed, he would come looking for me."

Alessandro looked confused.

"Why would Matteo say that?"

Daniel turned the page.

The final sentence was written larger.

"Because Alessandro was never the threat."

Everyone stared.

The next line was missing.

Torn away.

Someone had removed the most important part.

Then Marco's phone rang.

He answered.

His face changed immediately.

"Boss."

Alessandro looked up.

"What?"

Marco lowered the phone.

"We found Isabella."

Nobody moved.

"Where?"

Marco looked toward the window.

"At the Bellandi private hospital."

Alessandro stood.

"Alive?"

Marco nodded slowly.

"Yes."

A pause.

"But there is something you need to know."

"What?"

Marco looked at the file in his hand.

"She has been there for six years."

Alessandro froze.

"Six years?"

Marco swallowed.

"And the person who signed her admission papers..."

May you like

He looked at Grace.

"...was Grace Bellandi."
