Chapter 11 - The Choice Between Power and Love

The lights went out.

Then Leo screamed.

Alessandro moved before anyone else.

Not as a mafia king.

Not as a businessman.

As a father.

He ran upstairs.

"Leo!"

The hallway was dark.

The emergency lights flickered weakly.

Grace followed behind him.

Her heart was pounding.

Because she knew.

This wasn't an accident.

Not anymore.

Alessandro reached Leo's room.

The door was open.

The window was broken.

The curtains moved from the cold night air.

And Leo was gone.

For one second, Alessandro stopped breathing.

Then he saw something on the floor.

A small toy.

Leo's favorite wooden soldier.

Broken in half.

Beside it was a piece of paper.

Three words.

Come alone, Alessandro.

Grace covered her mouth.

"No..."

Alessandro picked up the note.

His hands were shaking.

Not from fear.

From rage.

Marco rushed upstairs.

"What happened?"

Alessandro turned.

His expression was different.

The controlled expression he wore in every war was gone.

Only a father remained.

"They took him."

Everyone froze.

Daniel stepped forward.

"Who?"

Alessandro looked at the broken toy.

Then at the note.

"The person who has been controlling everything."

Matteo.

Nobody said the name.

But everyone thought it.

Thirty minutes later, Alessandro stood alone in the old Bellandi warehouse.

The place where his father once made decisions.

The place where he learned how the world worked.

A place built on fear.

A place that had taken everything from him.

The message on his phone appeared again.

No weapons. No guards. Just you.

He ignored the command.

Because he knew one thing.

People like Matteo always believed they were smarter.

They believed they controlled the board.

They never noticed the person they were trying to break had already changed.

The warehouse door opened.

Matteo walked inside.

Slowly.

Calmly.

Like he owned the place.

"Where is my son?"

Matteo smiled.

"Interesting."

"What?"

"For years, you called him my weakness."

A pause.

"Now you call him your son."

Alessandro stepped forward.

"Where is Leo?"

Matteo looked at him.

"You finally understand."

"No."

Alessandro's voice was cold.

"I finally stopped being you."

That made Matteo's smile disappear.

Only slightly.

But enough.

"You think Grace changed you?"

"No."

Alessandro looked at him.

"She reminded me who I was before you destroyed everything."

Matteo laughed.

"You still believe you were a good man."

"No."

A pause.

"I know I wasn't."

That answer surprised him.

Alessandro continued.

"I hurt people."

"I made mistakes."

"I chose power."

His eyes hardened.

"But I won't let you turn my son into what I became."

For the first time, Matteo looked uncertain.

Because he expected anger.

He expected revenge.

He didn't expect acceptance.

"You are weak."

Alessandro shook his head.

"No."

He looked around the warehouse.

"Choosing my family over this..."

He looked back.

"That's the first strong decision I ever made."

Matteo stepped closer.

"You don't understand."

"What?"

"I built everything you have."

"No."

Alessandro looked at him.

"You built the cage."

A silence followed.

Then a small voice came from the darkness.

"Dad?"

Alessandro froze.

"Leo."

The boy appeared from behind a wooden wall.

Running.

Alessandro immediately dropped down.

Leo rushed into his arms.

For a moment, the entire world disappeared.

No enemies.

No secrets.

No past.

Only his son.

"I'm sorry."

Alessandro held him tightly.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there."

Leo didn't understand everything.

But he understood the emotion.

"You came."

Alessandro closed his eyes.

"Always."

Behind them, Matteo watched.

And something in his face changed.

Because he realized something.

He couldn't control this.

Not anymore.

When they returned home, nobody spoke for a long time.

The truth had exhausted everyone.

Grace sat in the living room.

Leo slept beside her.

Alessandro stood near the window.

Watching them.

Grace noticed.

"You look different."

He turned.

"What does that mean?"

"Before..."

She paused.

"You always looked like you were waiting for the next war."

Alessandro looked down.

"And now?"

"Now you look like you are afraid of losing peace."

The sentence stayed with him.

Because it was true.

He had spent his whole life preparing for enemies.

But never prepared for happiness.

Never protected it.

Grace looked at him.

"Why did you really come after me?"

He was quiet.

Because the answer was simple.

But difficult to say.

"Because when I thought you were gone..."

He stopped.

Then continued.

"I realized I had spent years protecting everything except the person who mattered most."

Grace looked away.

The pain was still there.

The damage was still there.

But something had changed.

The wall between them had cracks.

Not gone.

But cracks.

Then Daniel entered.

"We have a problem."

Everyone turned.

Alessandro stood.

"What now?"

Daniel placed a folder on the table.

"We found out why Matteo wanted Leo."

Grace looked worried.

"Why?"

Daniel opened the folder.

Inside was an old agreement.

A family contract.

Alessandro looked at it.

Then froze.

Because at the bottom was his father's signature.

And another signature.

Grace's father.

Daniel pointed.

"This agreement was made before you were born."

Alessandro frowned.

"What does it say?"

Daniel looked at him.

"The Bellandi family would be protected by another bloodline."

"Which bloodline?"

Daniel hesitated.

Then answered:

"Your mother's."

Alessandro looked confused.

"My mother?"

Daniel nodded.

"She wasn't just a Bellandi."

A pause.

"She belonged to the family that controlled the organization before yours."

The room went silent.

Grace looked at the papers.

"So everything..."

"Everything was connected."

Daniel continued.

"Your father didn't build the empire."

"He inherited it."

Alessandro stared.

All his life.

Every decision.

Every war.

Every sacrifice.

Built on a lie.

Then Daniel turned another page.

And his expression changed.

"What?"

Alessandro noticed.

"Daniel."

He slowly lifted the document.

"This wasn't the last page."

A hidden page had been attached.

A page nobody had seen.

At the top was a date.

The same day Grace disappeared.

And beneath it...

A name.

Alessandro stared.

Because the name was not Matteo.

Not his father.

Not anyone he expected.

It was Grace.

His wife.

Daniel whispered:

"She signed this."

Grace's face went pale.

"No."

Alessandro looked at her.

"Grace..."

She stepped back.

"I never saw that document."

Before anyone could speak, her phone rang.

A number she didn't recognize.

She answered.

Silence.

Then a man's voice.

A voice from her past.

"Grace."

Her eyes widened.

Because she knew that voice.

The person she believed was dead.

The person who knew the truth about Leo.

The person who started everything.

May you like

Then the voice whispered:

"You still haven't told Alessandro why you really left him."
