Chapter 11 - The House Where The Truth Was Buried

The old Vale house had been abandoned for years.
But the lights were on.
Dante noticed it before anyone else.
The mansion stood at the top of the hill.
The same place where he grew up.
The same place where his family had celebrated birthdays.
The same place where every secret had started.
Mara looked through the car window.
"You’re sure nobody lives here?"
Dante stared at the building.
"No."
She looked at him.
"What do you mean?"
He watched the lights glowing behind the windows.
"I mean someone wants us to think nobody lives here."
Marcus checked his weapon.
"This is a trap."
Adrian nodded.
"Of course it is."
Mara looked at them.
"Then why are we going inside?"
Dante answered without hesitation.
"Because every person who lied to me thought they could hide the truth forever."
He looked at the house.
"Tonight, they stop hiding."
The group moved toward the entrance.
Dante’s wheelchair rolled over the old stone path.
Mara stayed beside him.
She noticed something.
He wasn’t looking at the house like an enemy.
He was looking at it like someone returning to a grave.
The front door opened before they reached it.
Nobody touched it.
Dante stopped.
Marcus immediately stepped in front.
"Stay back."
A voice came from inside.
"Still letting other people protect you?"
Dante froze.
Mara recognized the voice.
The same woman from the phone.
His mother.
Dante slowly moved forward.
"Show yourself."
The lights inside turned on.
One by one.
The entire hallway illuminated.
Then a woman appeared at the top of the stairs.
Older.
Elegant.
Calm.
But alive.
Dante stared.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Then:
"Mother."
The woman looked at him.
"Dante."
There was no apology in her voice.
No fear.
Only sadness.
Mara watched him carefully.
This was the woman who had been dead for years.
The woman connected to everything.
"You let me believe you were dead."
The woman nodded.
"Yes."
"Why?"
She looked away.
"Because if you knew I was alive, they would know too."
Dante laughed quietly.
"Everyone has an excuse."
His voice became colder.
"My father."
"Your brother."
"Marcus."
"Clara."
He looked at her.
"And now you."
The woman accepted his anger.
"I deserved that."
Mara noticed something.
Dante wanted to hate her.
But he couldn’t.
Because somewhere inside him, she was still his mother.
The woman walked down the stairs.
Her name was Victoria Vale.
The person who had started the Vale family empire.
The person everyone believed was gone.
She stopped in front of Dante.
"You look like him."
Dante’s expression changed.
"Like who?"
"Your father."
The words made him tense.
Victoria looked at Mara.
"And you must be Mara."
Mara froze.
"You know me?"
Victoria nodded.
"I knew your mother."
The room became silent.
Mara stepped forward.
"My mother?"
Victoria looked at her.
"She was the bravest person I ever knew."
Mara swallowed.
"You knew her?"
"Yes."
"Then tell me the truth."
Victoria looked at Dante.
Then at Mara.
"The truth is that both of you were victims of the same person."
Dante narrowed his eyes.
"Who?"
Victoria didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, she walked toward an old cabinet.
She opened it.
Inside were dozens of files.
She removed one.
The cover had a familiar symbol.
The Circle.
Dante stared.
"All these years..."
Victoria nodded.
"They have controlled everything."
Mara looked at the file.
"Who are they?"
Victoria opened it.
Inside were names.
Powerful people.
Business leaders.
Officials.
People who appeared untouchable.
But one name was circled.
Dante leaned closer.
His expression changed.
"No."
Mara looked at him.
"What?"
He didn’t answer.
Victoria did.
"The person who created The Circle."
She turned the page.
"It was your father."
The room became silent.
Dante looked at his mother.
"You told me he was trying to stop them."
"He was."
Victoria’s voice softened.
"Because he realized what he created had become something worse than him."
Dante stared at the documents.
"So my father was both the creator and the enemy."
"Yes."
Mara looked confused.
"Then why did he hurt Dante?"
Victoria looked at her.
"Because he was trying to protect him."
Dante shook his head.
"That makes no sense."
Victoria opened another file.
Inside was a photograph.
A young Dante.
Standing beside his father.
And another person.
Mara immediately recognized him.
Her father.
Victoria placed the photograph down.
"Your father and Dante’s father discovered The Circle was planning a takeover."
She looked at Mara.
"Your father found a way to destroy them."
"Then why did he disappear?"
Victoria’s expression became painful.
"Because someone betrayed him."
Dante looked at her.
"Who?"
Victoria was silent.
Too silent.
Mara noticed.
"Who was it?"
Victoria looked directly at Dante.
"The person you trusted most."
Dante’s face changed.
Again.
The same answer.
The same impossible truth.
But this time Victoria added:
"It wasn’t Clara."
Everyone froze.
Dante looked at her.
"What?"
"Clara was involved."
Victoria admitted.
"But she wasn’t the person who ordered everything."
Mara frowned.
"Then who?"
Victoria walked toward another locked cabinet.
She pulled out a small box.
"I kept this because I hoped you would never need it."
Dante watched.
"What is it?"
"The final proof."
She opened the box.
Inside was a small recorder.
Old.
Damaged.
But still working.
Victoria pressed play.
A voice filled the room.
A man’s voice.
Dante’s father.
"If you are hearing this, then I failed."
Dante closed his eyes.
The recording continued.
"I failed to protect my son."
A pause.
"Not from my enemies."
"From the person who was closest to him."
Mara looked at Dante.
The recorder continued.
"Because the person who betrayed Dante was..."
Static interrupted.
Everyone waited.
Then the voice returned.
"Weeks before the accident, I discovered my own child had joined The Circle."
Dante’s breathing stopped.
Victoria looked down.
The recorder continued.
"The traitor was not outside this family."
"The traitor was my son."
The room went silent.
Adrian stepped back.
Marcus looked at him.
Dante slowly turned.
Because there was only one brother left.
One person connected to every secret.
One person who had returned at the perfect time.
Adrian looked at the recorder.
His face changed.
And then his phone started ringing.
Everyone looked at the screen.
The caller name appeared.
Dante saw it.
Mara saw it.
May you like
Everyone froze.
Because the person calling Adrian was the one person who should have never been able to call.
