Chapter 7 - The Betrayal Inside the Family

The door opened.

Luca Moretti raised his weapon.

Everyone behind him froze.

The person standing outside did not look like an enemy.

That was the problem.

Because enemies were easy.

Enemies came with threats.

Enemies showed their intentions.

But betrayal always wore a familiar face.

A man stepped into the hidden room.

Wearing the same expensive suit Luca had seen hundreds of times.

The same calm expression.

The same respectful posture.

"Mr. Moretti."

Luca’s hand tightened around his gun.

"Richard."

The man who entered was Richard Vale.

Luca’s right-hand man.

The person who had protected his business.

The person who knew every secret inside the Moretti empire.

The person Luca trusted more than anyone after Adrian.

For years, Richard had stood beside him.

He had handled negotiations.

Solved problems.

Removed threats.

And now he was standing in the hidden room beneath Luca’s mansion.

A place only a few people knew existed.

Luca looked at Adrian.

Then at Richard.

Then back at Adrian.

"You said the person I trusted after you."

Adrian nodded.

"Yes."

Richard looked disappointed.

"Adrian always loved making things dramatic."

Luca stared at him.

"What are you doing here?"

Richard glanced toward Elena and Sofia.

Then smiled.

"Finishing what should have been finished three years ago."

Elena immediately moved closer to Sofia.

Luca noticed.

His entire body became tense.

"You were the one following her."

Richard didn't answer.

That was enough.

Luca took one step forward.

"Answer me."

Richard sighed.

"Elena discovered things she wasn't supposed to discover."

"About my family?"

"About your father."

Luca’s eyes narrowed.

"What things?"

Richard looked around the room.

"Your father didn't build an empire."

He paused.

"He built a prison."

Nobody spoke.

Richard continued.

"Everyone thought the Moretti family was powerful because of money."

He looked at Luca.

"But the real power came from secrets."

Adrian watched him carefully.

"You were never supposed to reveal this."

Richard smiled.

"Neither were you."

Luca looked between them.

"You two worked together?"

Adrian shook his head.

"Not by choice."

Richard laughed softly.

"Still protecting your image, Adrian?"

Luca felt something break apart inside him.

Two people.

Two trusted men.

Two sides of the same lie.

"Tell me the truth."

His voice was quiet.

But everyone heard it.

"What happened the night Elena disappeared?"

Richard looked at Elena.

"You should tell him."

Elena looked down.

Luca saw the pain on her face.

And that hurt more than anything.

"Elena."

She took a breath.

"The night I disappeared, I found documents."

"What documents?"

"Your father’s private records."

Luca listened.

"Records showing that the Moretti family had been moving money through illegal operations for decades."

Maria looked shocked.

Adrian stayed silent.

Elena continued.

"Your father wanted to stop."

Luca looked at Adrian.

"And someone didn't."

Elena nodded.

"Someone wanted control."

Richard smiled.

"You always make yourself sound innocent."

Elena looked at him.

"I protected a child."

"You protected a weakness."

The room became cold.

Luca looked at Richard.

"Do not talk about my daughter like that."

Richard looked at him.

"There it is."

"What?"

"You finally care about something besides power."

Luca stepped forward.

Richard didn’t move.

"You spent years becoming exactly what your father wanted."

Luca’s expression changed.

Because part of him knew there was truth in those words.

But not anymore.

Not after Sofia.

Not after Elena.

Not after losing three years.

"What do you want?"

Richard looked at Sofia.

"Her."

The room went silent.

Luca raised his weapon.

"No."

Richard smiled.

"You think this is about killing her?"

Nobody moved.

"It's bigger than that."

He reached into his jacket.

Everyone prepared for a weapon.

But he pulled out a small folder.

He threw it onto the table.

Luca opened it.

Inside were documents.

Birth records.

Financial transfers.

Medical files.

And one page that made his blood run cold.

A custody agreement.

Signed three years earlier.

Luca stared.

"My signature."

Elena stepped closer.

"What?"

Luca looked at the paper.

A legal document giving temporary guardianship of Sofia to someone else.

But he had never signed it.

He looked at Richard.

"You forged my name."

Richard shrugged.

"Someone had to protect the empire."

Luca ripped the paper in half.

"You tried to steal my daughter."

Richard’s expression remained calm.

"No."

He looked at Sofia.

"I tried to save her from you."

The words shocked everyone.

Luca stared.

"From me?"

Richard nodded.

"Your family has always destroyed everything it touches."

Elena stepped forward.

"You don't get to pretend you're a hero."

Richard looked at her.

"You should thank me."

"For what?"

"For keeping Sofia alive."

Luca felt anger rising.

"What are you talking about?"

Richard looked at Adrian.

Then at Elena.

Then finally at Luca.

"Ask Adrian why your father really died."

The room went silent.

Luca turned slowly.

"Adrian?"

Adrian said nothing.

That was the answer.

Luca’s expression changed.

"What did you do?"

Adrian looked tired.

Not guilty.

Tired.

"Your father found out."

"Found out what?"

Adrian looked at Sofia.

"That he wasn't the only one who wanted to leave the family."

Luca stepped closer.

"Explain."

Before Adrian could answer, the mansion alarm suddenly stopped.

The silence afterward was worse.

Everyone looked toward the entrance.

Because whoever was outside had stopped trying to break in.

They had entered.

Richard looked toward the hallway.

"He is here."

Luca turned.

"Who?"

Richard smiled.

"The person who started all of this."

The hidden room lights flickered.

A figure appeared at the end of the corridor.

Slow footsteps.

Slow.

Confident.

Like the entire mansion belonged to him.

Luca raised his weapon.

But then he saw the face.

And the gun lowered slightly.

Because the man walking toward them was someone Luca had buried years ago.

Someone everyone believed was dead.

Someone who should never have been able to return.

The man stopped at the doorway.

Looked directly at Luca.

May you like

And said:

"Son."
