Chapter 6 - The Daughter Hidden From The World

The envelope stayed on the table for almost an hour.
Nobody touched it.
Nobody wanted to.
Because sometimes the most dangerous things were not weapons.
Sometimes they were pieces of paper containing the truth you had spent years trying to avoid.
Lorenzo stood in front of the envelope, completely still.
The mansion around us had become strangely quiet.
The storm outside had weakened, but the damage inside the Duca family had only grown stronger.
The man who had built an empire from fear was now standing in front of a simple message that had shaken everything he believed.
A missing brother.
A hidden niece.
A betrayal that had lasted more than a decade.
And somewhere in the darkness…
Someone was still controlling the game.
Emma sat on the couch beside me, coloring on a piece of paper she found in the office.
She had drawn three people holding hands.
A woman.
A man.
And a little girl.
I looked at the drawing.
“Who are they, baby?”
She smiled.
“That’s us.”
My heart tightened.
She had only known Lorenzo for one night.
But somehow, she had already included him in her idea of family.
Lorenzo noticed the drawing too.
He stared at it for several seconds.
Then he looked away.
“You shouldn’t make promises to children.”
I frowned.
“What do you mean?”
His voice was quiet.
“Children believe people will stay.”
The sadness in his words surprised me.
Because it wasn’t the voice of a powerful man.
It was the voice of someone who had lost people before.
Someone who expected everyone to leave eventually.
I looked at him.
“Maybe children believe that because adults forget how important it is.”
He didn’t answer.
But I saw his expression change.
Just slightly.
The old Lorenzo would have ignored words like that.
The new Lorenzo listened.
That was the difference.
The little girl who had saved his life was changing him.
Before he could say anything, one of the mansion phones rang.
The sound echoed through the empty room.
Everyone froze.
Because nobody should have been able to call.
The security system had been compromised.
The staff had disappeared.
The guards had either betrayed Lorenzo or were no longer trustworthy.
The phone rang again.
Lorenzo slowly walked toward it.
I watched his hand.
He hesitated before picking it up.
That hesitation told me everything.
Even he was afraid of what he might hear.
Finally, he answered.
“Hello?”
For several seconds, there was only silence.
Then a young girl's voice spoke.
“Is this Lorenzo Duca?”
The entire room changed.
Lorenzo’s face went pale.
Because he recognized the voice.
“Who are you?”
The girl didn’t answer immediately.
Then she whispered:
“My name is Isabella.”
The phone nearly slipped from his hand.
I saw it.
The shock.
The disbelief.
The pain.
“Where are you?”
A pause.
“I don’t know.”
Her voice trembled.
“I was told never to say my name.”
Lorenzo closed his eyes.
Like hearing those words hurt more than any injury.
“Who told you?”
Another pause.
“The woman.”
His jaw tightened.
“The woman from the mansion?”
“Yes.”
I stepped closer.
Emma looked up from her drawing.
“What happened?”
I shook my head gently.
“Stay here, baby.”
But she was already watching Lorenzo.
Because somehow, she understood.
The little girl on the phone was important.
“Isabella,” Lorenzo said softly.
It was strange hearing his voice.
A man who usually sounded like a command now sounded almost afraid.
“I need you to tell me where you are.”
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
The girl's voice became quieter.
“Because she said if I ever found you…”
Silence.
Then:
“She would make sure I disappeared like my father.”
Lorenzo stopped breathing.
I felt the room become heavier.
Because those words confirmed everything.
Adrian’s daughter was alive.
And someone had been hiding her.
Using fear.
Using lies.
Using the same methods that had controlled the Duca family for years.
“Isabella,” Lorenzo said.
His voice became stronger.
“I promise you.”
A pause.
“I will find you.”
The line went silent.
Then the girl whispered:
“I hope you’re telling the truth.”
The call ended.
Lorenzo remained standing there.
Holding the phone.
Unable to move.
Then something unexpected happened.
Emma walked toward him.
She reached up.
And held his hand.
Just like she had done in the shed.
“You made another promise.”
Lorenzo looked down.
“Yes.”
“Then you have to keep it.”
I watched his face.
And I realized something.
Emma didn’t see Lorenzo Duca.
She didn’t see the man everyone feared.
She saw someone who needed to be reminded to be good.
And maybe that was exactly what he needed.
A few minutes later, we entered the old library.
Lorenzo had brought every document from the hidden vault.
The table was covered with photographs, records, and old files.
The truth of the Duca family was spread out in front of us.
But one thing bothered me.
“Why would they keep evidence against themselves?”
Lorenzo looked at the documents.
“My father collected everything.”
“Why?”
“Because he believed information was power.”
He touched one of the files.
“He never destroyed secrets.”
He looked around the room.
“He stored them.”
I picked up a photograph.
It showed Adrian years ago.
He looked different from Lorenzo.
Softer.
Kinder.
But his eyes were the same.
“You loved him.”
Lorenzo didn’t respond.
That was his answer.
“He was the only person who believed I could become something different.”
I looked at him.
“Different from what?”
His silence lasted several seconds.
Then:
“My father.”
The honesty surprised me.
Lorenzo sat down.
For the first time, he looked exhausted.
Not physically.
Emotionally.
“My father taught me that love was weakness.”
His fingers tightened.
“He taught me that everyone eventually betrays you.”
I glanced at Emma.
She was sitting on the floor, playing quietly with her rabbit.
“And now?”
Lorenzo looked at her.
“Now I think he was wrong.”
A small smile appeared on my face.
“You think?”
He looked away.
“I’m still learning.”
That was probably the most honest thing I had heard from him.
Suddenly, one of the documents caught my attention.
A name.
Repeated over and over.
Not Lorenzo.
Not Adrian.
Another person.
I picked it up.
“Who is Victor Salvatore?”
The moment I said the name, Lorenzo’s expression changed.
“You know him?”
He nodded slowly.
“He was my father’s closest adviser.”
“The same person connected to Adrian?”
“Yes.”
I looked at the documents.
“He’s alive?”
Lorenzo’s silence answered.
“No.”
I frowned.
“What?”
“He died years ago.”
I looked at the papers again.
“That’s impossible.”
Lorenzo took them.
Then he saw it.
A transaction.
A signature.
A recent date.
His face changed.
“Someone has been using his identity.”
A cold feeling moved through me.
Because suddenly everything connected.
The woman.
Marco.
Adrian.
Isabella.
Someone had spent years creating a fake trail.
Someone wanted everyone looking in the wrong direction.
Then the lights went out.
Again.
Emma immediately ran toward me.
I grabbed her.
Lorenzo moved toward the window.
Outside, headlights appeared.
Several vehicles.
Coming through the gates.
“They found us.”
I looked at him.
“Who?”
He stared into the darkness.
And whispered:
“The real enemy.”
A message appeared on the computer screen in the library.
No one had touched it.
No one had turned it on.
Only four words appeared.
STOP LOOKING FOR ISABELLA.
Then another line appeared.
OR YOU WILL LOSE EMMA TOO.
My blood turned cold.
Lorenzo saw it.
His entire expression changed.
Because for the first time that night…
The threat was not against him.
It was against the person who had saved him.
His hand closed into a fist.
Nobody had ever been able to control Lorenzo Duca through fear.
But they had discovered something else.
Something far more dangerous.
They had found the person he cared about.
Lorenzo looked at Emma.
Then at me.
And quietly said:
“They made their biggest mistake.”
I looked at him.
“What?”
His eyes hardened.
“They threatened my family.”
Outside, the vehicles stopped.
Doors opened.
Footsteps approached the mansion.
And inside the house where secrets had destroyed generations…
May you like
Lorenzo Duca prepared for the first fight of his life that was not about power.
It was about protecting the people who finally gave him a reason to live.
