Chapter 6 - The Daughter Hidden From Me

"The message was from someone who says they are holding your other daughter."

The flight attendant's words stayed in my mind.

Other daughter.

Two words that shouldn't exist.

Two words that changed everything.

I looked around the cabin.

Everyone had a secret.

Everyone knew something about my life except me.

And the worst part...

I was starting to believe they had a reason.

"Show me the message."

My voice was calm.

Too calm.

That was how I reacted when something was impossible.

I became quiet.

I became focused.

The flight attendant looked at Ethan.

He nodded.

She handed me the device.

A simple text message appeared on the screen.

NO EMERGENCY LANDING.

NO AUTHORITIES.

BRING DANIEL WHITMORE AND THE BABY TO THE PRIVATE HANGAR.

OR YOU WILL NEVER SEE SARAH AGAIN.

I read the name again.

Sarah.

My fingers tightened around the phone.

"Who is Sarah?"

Nobody answered.

I looked at Emma.

Her face told me everything.

She knew.

"Emma."

She looked down.

"Daniel..."

"Who is Sarah?"

A tear rolled down her cheek.

"The other baby."

The cabin became silent.

My heartbeat became louder.

"She has a name?"

Emma nodded slowly.

"Yes."

"How long have you known?"

Her lips trembled.

"Since the day she was born."

I felt like someone had punched the air out of my lungs.

The day she was born.

Six months.

Six months of my daughter's life.

Six months of bedtime stories.

Six months of holding Lily.

And somewhere in the world...

Another child who shared my blood was somewhere else.

Alone.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Emma looked at me.

Because she had no answer.

Because there was no answer that could make sense.

"I was scared."

I laughed quietly.

Not because it was funny.

Because I couldn't believe those words anymore.

Everyone was scared.

Everyone had reasons.

Everyone decided I couldn't handle the truth.

But nobody asked me.

Nobody gave me a choice.

Victoria stepped forward.

"Daniel, listen to me."

I turned toward her.

"No."

She stopped.

"You don't get to tell me to listen."

My voice cracked.

"You disappeared."

She looked down.

"You knew."

She nodded.

"You knew Lily had a sister."

"Yes."

"And you let me believe she was my only child."

Victoria closed her eyes.

"I thought keeping you away from this world would protect you."

I stared at her.

"The world?"

She looked at Adrian.

Then Ethan.

"This isn't about money, Daniel."

I looked at the message again.

Someone had my daughter.

Someone knew about my family.

Someone was controlling every move.

"Then what is it about?"

Victoria hesitated.

"Your father."

The name again.

Arthur Whitmore.

I was tired of hearing it.

Tired of discovering new versions of a man I thought I knew.

"My father has been dead for twelve years."

Adrian finally spoke.

"That doesn't mean his plans died with him."

I looked at him.

"Explain."

Adrian remained silent for several seconds.

Then he sat down.

For the first time since he appeared...

He looked exhausted.

"Arthur created a system."

"What kind of system?"

"One that could predict people's decisions."

I frowned.

"That sounds like a business algorithm."

"No."

Adrian looked at Lily.

"It was designed to control outcomes."

A cold feeling moved through me.

"Control what outcomes?"

"Everything."

Nobody spoke.

Adrian continued.

"Investments. Elections. Companies. People."

I stared at him.

"My father built that?"

"He built the foundation."

Adrian looked at me.

"Someone else took control."

"Who?"

Adrian didn't answer.

And that scared me.

Because every time people avoided a name...

It meant the name mattered.

The plane began preparing for landing.

The passengers were being moved to the back cabin.

But we remained together.

The small group of people connected by secrets.

I looked at Lily.

She was awake now.

Her eyes looked up at me.

And suddenly...

Nothing else mattered.

Not Victoria.

Not Emma.

Not Adrian.

Not my father.

Only her.

I touched her tiny hand.

"I promise you."

My voice became quiet.

"I'll find her."

Emma started crying.

Because she knew I meant it.

Even if the truth destroyed me.

Even if my entire life changed.

I would find Sarah.

The plane landed thirty minutes later.

But nobody celebrated.

There was no relief.

No feeling of safety.

Because the moment the wheels touched the ground...

We knew the real danger had just started.

The aircraft door opened.

Security personnel surrounded the runway.

But Ethan immediately stopped.

"Wait."

Everyone looked at him.

He stared outside.

"Something is wrong."

I looked through the window.

A black vehicle was parked near the private hangar.

One person stood beside it.

Waiting.

"Who is that?"

Ethan's face changed.

"No."

Victoria stepped closer to the window.

Her breathing stopped.

"I thought he was dead."

I looked at her.

"Who?"

She didn't answer.

The person outside lifted his head.

Even from a distance...

I recognized the face.

Because I had seen it before.

In my father's old photographs.

The same eyes.

The same expression.

The same family resemblance.

Adrian whispered:

"That's impossible."

I looked at him.

"Who is he?"

Adrian's voice was barely audible.

"My father."

Nobody moved.

Arthur Whitmore.

The man I buried.

The man who was supposed to be dead.

The man who had been controlling everything.

Standing outside.

Waiting for us.

The airplane door opened fully.

And the man outside raised his hand toward me.

May you like

Then he said the one sentence that made Emma collapse...

"Daniel, bring me my daughter."
