Chapter 8 - The Bloodline They Tried To Erase

The voice from the recording continued to echo through the dark office.

“You really thought you could hide my granddaughter forever?”

Nobody spoke.

Not because they didn’t have questions.

But because the answer was already forming in everyone’s mind.

The person behind everything…

Was connected to Lily.

Hannah looked down at her daughter.

Her baby was sleeping peacefully, unaware that powerful people had been fighting over her existence since before she was even born.

“She’s my granddaughter?” Hannah whispered.

Her voice was barely audible.

Elena’s face had lost all color.

She looked like someone who had just opened a door she had spent twenty-five years trying to keep closed.

“No…”

Victor turned toward her.

“Elena.”

She didn’t respond.

“Elena, who is it?”

Her eyes remained fixed on the small device on the floor.

Then she whispered a name.

A name that made Thomas Vale’s smile disappear.

“Isabella Rossi.”

Hannah frowned.

“Who is Isabella?”

Elena closed her eyes.

“My mother.”

The room became completely silent.

Victor stared at Elena.

“Your mother?”

Elena nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

“But you told me she died.”

“She did.”

A pause.

“Or at least that’s what I believed.”

Hannah looked confused.

“My grandmother is alive?”

Elena looked at her.

“No.”

Her voice trembled.

“She died twenty years ago.”

Victor stepped closer.

“Then who is using her voice?”

Elena looked toward Thomas.

And for the first time…

Thomas looked afraid.

“You know,” Victor said.

Thomas remained silent.

Victor moved closer.

“You know who is behind this.”

Thomas looked away.

That small movement told everyone the truth.

The man who had manipulated everyone for twenty-five years…

Was afraid of someone else.

The recording continued.

A woman’s voice filled the room again.

“Lily is not just Elena’s granddaughter.”

A pause.

“She is the last piece.”

Hannah held her daughter tighter.

“What piece?”

Nobody answered.

The voice continued.

“The Rossi family spent decades protecting what was stolen.”

“The Moretti family spent decades hiding what they knew.”

“And now…”

A cold laugh.

“Everything returns to me.”

The recording stopped.

The office became silent.

Victor looked at Thomas.

“You know who she is.”

Thomas finally spoke.

Quietly.

“She was never supposed to come back.”

Hannah stepped forward.

“Who?”

Thomas looked at Lily.

“Your grandmother.”

Twenty-five years ago, before Elena disappeared, the Rossi family had controlled information more valuable than money.

Not wealth.

Not property.

Information.

Records.

Names.

Secrets.

Elena’s father, Michael Rossi, had spent his life collecting proof against powerful people who believed they were untouchable.

He believed the truth was the only weapon ordinary people had.

But powerful people feared the truth more than anything.

When Michael Rossi disappeared, Elena inherited his mission.

Then she discovered something worse.

The people responsible were not strangers.

They were people connected to her own family.

People who had been hiding behind respected names.

Behind businesses.

Behind charity organizations.

Behind political influence.

And at the center of it all…

Was Isabella Rossi.

Her own mother.

Hannah stared at Elena.

“You’re saying your own mother wanted this?”

Elena looked broken.

“I didn’t know at first.”

“When did you find out?”

“Too late.”

Her voice became softer.

“By the time I understood what she was doing, I was already trapped.”

Victor looked at her.

“And I thought Adrian was the enemy.”

Elena nodded.

“Adrian was only a soldier.”

The realization shocked everyone.

Thomas looked toward the door.

“We need to leave.”

Everyone turned.

Victor narrowed his eyes.

“You’re giving orders now?”

Thomas ignored him.

“You don’t understand what’s coming.”

Victor stepped closer.

“You’re afraid.”

Thomas looked at him.

“Yes.”

The honesty surprised everyone.

“I am.”

A loud crash came from the hallway.

Everyone turned.

The security system was still offline.

Someone was moving through the mansion.

Slow footsteps.

Not rushing.

Not hiding.

Walking like they belonged there.

Victor raised his weapon.

The guards positioned themselves.

Hannah moved behind Victor.

Elena looked terrified.

“Victor…”

“What?”

“She doesn’t come alone.”

Victor looked at her.

“What does that mean?”

Elena whispered:

“She never did.”

The office doors suddenly opened.

A woman stepped inside.

She was older.

Elegant.

Perfectly dressed.

Her gray hair was neatly arranged.

Her posture was straight.

Her eyes were cold.

But there was something familiar.

Something that made Hannah uncomfortable.

The woman looked directly at Lily.

Not at Victor.

Not at Elena.

The baby.

“My granddaughter.”

The words were quiet.

But powerful.

Hannah immediately stepped backward.

“No.”

The woman smiled.

“You have my daughter’s eyes.”

Hannah’s anger exploded.

“Stay away from her.”

The woman looked amused.

“You sound exactly like Elena.”

Elena stepped forward.

“Mother.”

The woman smiled.

“So you survived.”

The way she said it was not loving.

It was disappointment.

Hannah felt a chill.

“You tried to kill her.”

The woman looked at Hannah.

“No.”

A pause.

“I tried to correct a mistake.”

Victor’s expression turned dangerous.

“You threatened a baby.”

The woman finally looked at him.

“Victor Moretti.”

Her smile disappeared.

“You were always the weakness.”

Victor moved forward.

“You’re Isabella Rossi.”

“Yes.”

“And you’re behind all this.”

Isabella looked around the room.

“At last, you understand.”

Thomas stepped forward.

“You said you would protect me.”

Isabella looked at him.

Then laughed.

A cold, emotionless laugh.

“Thomas.”

A pause.

“You were useful.”

The old man froze.

Victor noticed.

“So even you were a tool.”

Thomas’s face changed.

For the first time, he looked betrayed.

Isabella continued:

“You both made the same mistake.”

She looked at Elena.

“You trusted love.”

Then at Victor.

“You protected feelings.”

Finally at Hannah.

“And now you’re protecting the child who carries everything.”

Hannah’s voice shook.

“What does Lily have?”

Isabella smiled.

“Her blood.”

“That’s not an answer.”

“No.”

Isabella stepped closer.

“But it’s the only one that matters.”

Victor raised his weapon.

“Take one more step.”

Isabella stopped.

But she didn’t look afraid.

“You won’t shoot me.”

Victor’s eyes narrowed.

“Why?”

“Because Elena still loves you.”

Silence.

Victor’s expression changed.

Isabella smiled.

“You think I don’t know?”

She looked at Elena.

“You spent twenty-five years protecting the man who failed you.”

Elena’s eyes filled with anger.

“He didn’t fail me.”

Isabella laughed.

“You still defend him.”

A pause.

“That is why you were always weak.”

“No.”

Elena stepped forward.

“That is why I survived.”

For the first time, Isabella’s expression changed.

Only slightly.

But enough.

Suddenly, the mansion shook.

Another explosion.

This one closer.

The lights completely died.

Emergency systems failed.

Then the front doors opened.

More armed men entered.

Victor looked toward the hallway.

“How many?”

A guard checked his weapon.

“Too many.”

Isabella smiled.

“Now you understand.”

Victor looked at her.

“What?”

“This was never about taking Lily.”

She looked toward the darkness outside.

“It was about bringing everyone together.”

Hannah’s heart sank.

“Why?”

Isabella looked at her.

“Because the truth was never hidden in the locket.”

She pointed toward Lily.

“It was hidden in the person who carried the blood.”

Elena froze.

Victor turned.

“What does that mean?”

Isabella smiled.

“It means your daughter…”

She looked at Hannah.

“Is not the end of the Rossi secret.”

A pause.

“She is the beginning.”

Victor immediately grabbed Hannah’s arm.

“We leave.”

Thomas looked surprised.

“You’re trusting me?”

“No.”

Victor looked at him coldly.

“I’m using you.”

Thomas almost smiled.

“Still the same man.”

“No.”

Victor looked toward Lily.

“I’m finally becoming a different one.”

They moved toward the hidden exit.

But before they reached it…

Isabella spoke.

“Victor.”

He stopped.

“You spent twenty-five years trying to protect Elena’s daughter.”

A pause.

“But you never asked the most important question.”

Victor turned.

“What?”

Isabella smiled.

“Who is Lily’s father?”

Hannah froze.

The question hit harder than any explosion.

Victor looked at Elena.

Elena looked away.

And Hannah realized…

There was one more secret.

May you like

One more truth her mother had hidden.

A truth that could change everything.
