Chapter 13 - The Heir Of The Council

The photograph on the screen changed everything.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
Because the face staring back at them was impossible.
Victor Moretti stared at the image.
His mind refused to accept what his eyes were seeing.
The name beneath the photograph remained on the screen.
THE HEIR OF THE COUNCIL
And beneath it…
A face.
A face connected to the past.
A face that should have disappeared years ago.
Victor whispered:
“No…”
Hannah looked at him.
“What?”
Victor stepped closer to the screen.
His expression had changed completely.
Not fear.
Not anger.
Something much deeper.
Recognition.
“Victor?”
He didn’t answer.
Marco walked beside him.
Then he saw the photograph.
His entire body froze.
“No.”
The word came out like a breath.
Elena looked between the two brothers.
“Who is it?”
Victor slowly turned.
His voice was almost impossible to hear.
“Someone we thought we lost.”
The screen continued playing.
The old recording of their father continued.
“If this message has been activated, then the Council has already begun moving.”
The image showed documents.
Names.
Financial records.
Photographs.
Decades of hidden information.
“The Council believes power belongs to those who can control the truth.”
The old man paused.
“But they are wrong.”
A new file appeared.
A family tree.
The Rossi family.
The Moretti family.
And another line connecting them.
The Council.
“The greatest danger was never money.”
“It was inheritance.”
The recording paused.
Then the final message appeared:
THE PERSON WHO CONTROLS THE FUTURE WILL CONTROL THE PAST.
The screen went dark.
Nobody spoke for several seconds.
Finally, Hannah asked the question everyone was avoiding.
“Who was that?”
Victor looked at her.
His eyes were filled with pain.
“Your cousin.”
Hannah frowned.
“I don’t have a cousin.”
Victor looked toward Elena.
“She does.”
Elena closed her eyes.
Because she knew.
The past she had spent decades hiding had finally returned.
“My sister’s child.”
Sofia stepped forward.
“No.”
Everyone looked at her.
Sofia shook her head.
“That’s impossible.”
Elena looked at her.
“Why?”
“Because…”
Sofia’s voice trembled.
“Because she died.”
The room became silent.
Twenty-five years ago, when Elena discovered the Council’s true purpose, she found something even more dangerous.
A child.
A child born into the middle of a war between powerful families.
A child the Council believed could become their future leader.
The heir.
The one person who could unite every secret organization under one name.
But Elena believed a child should never inherit power built on fear.
So she tried to save her.
She tried to hide her.
She tried to give her a normal life.
But the Council found out.
Or at least…
That was what everyone believed.
Victor looked at Elena.
“You knew.”
Elena’s eyes filled with tears.
“I knew there was a possibility.”
“Possibility?”
“I didn’t know if she survived.”
Victor looked at the photograph again.
“And now?”
Elena whispered:
“Now I know.”
A cold silence filled the vault.
Because if the heir was alive…
Then Isabella was not the biggest threat.
Thomas was not the biggest threat.
The Council itself was.
Suddenly, the vault door behind them slammed shut.
Everyone turned.
Victor immediately reached for his weapon.
The lights flickered.
Then a voice came through the speakers.
A woman’s voice.
Calm.
Confident.
Familiar.
“Congratulations.”
Everyone froze.
Because they recognized it.
Isabella.
Victor looked at the ceiling.
“How did you get this frequency?”
Isabella laughed softly.
“You really thought this vault belonged only to you?”
Sofia looked around.
“No.”
Her face changed.
“She built this.”
Everyone looked at her.
“What?”
Sofia pointed at the walls.
“The original vault system.”
She swallowed.
“It was designed by the Council.”
Victor’s expression darkened.
“So everything we found…”
“Was allowed.”
A pause.
“They wanted us to find it.”
Hannah felt fear rising.
“Why?”
Isabella answered through the speakers.
“Because the truth belongs to the person who controls the story.”
Hannah stepped closer.
“You wanted us here.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
A pause.
Then Isabella said:
“Because I wanted Lily to see where she came from.”
Hannah’s anger exploded.
“She’s a baby!”
“She is more than that.”
“No.”
Hannah held Lily tighter.
“She is my daughter.”
The speakers went silent.
Then Isabella said:
“You still don’t understand.”
A pause.
“You think I want her because of power.”
The voice became colder.
“I want her because she is the only person who can end everything.”
Victor looked at the files around him.
“What does that mean?”
Isabella answered:
“The Council has existed for generations.”
“Yes.”
“It survived because every generation passed the power forward.”
A pause.
“But Lily is different.”
Victor looked at Hannah.
“She carries both bloodlines.”
Isabella continued:
“Rossi truth.”
“Moretti influence.”
“The Council’s inheritance.”
Hannah shook her head.
“You’re wrong.”
Isabella laughed.
“Am I?”
Hannah looked down at Lily.
“She is not an inheritance.”
A pause.
“She is a person.”
For a moment, there was silence.
Then Isabella answered quietly:
“That is exactly why Elena chose you.”
Suddenly, the vault lights changed.
A red warning appeared.
SECURITY BREACH
Marco looked at the control panel.
“They’re opening the vault.”
Victor moved.
“How long?”
Marco checked.
“Three minutes.”
Sofia looked at the files.
“We need to copy everything.”
Victor nodded.
“Do it.”
Everyone moved.
Documents were collected.
Drives were removed.
Evidence was secured.
But Hannah noticed something.
Victor wasn’t taking anything.
He was looking at Lily.
“You’re worried.”
Victor looked at her.
“Yes.”
“About the Council?”
“No.”
Hannah waited.
Victor answered:
“About what happens after we win.”
She frowned.
“Why?”
“Because power changes people.”
He looked at Lily.
“And I don’t want her growing up surrounded by the same darkness we did.”
Hannah understood.
For all his mistakes…
Victor wanted something different.
The vault door began opening.
Slowly.
Everyone prepared.
Weapons raised.
The first shadow appeared.
Then another.
Then another.
But nobody expected the person who stepped through.
Because it wasn’t Isabella.
It wasn’t Adrian.
It wasn’t Thomas.
It was the person from the photograph.
The heir of the Council.
Alive.
Standing before them.
Elena whispered:
“Impossible…”
The woman looked at her.
“No.”
A pause.
“You just refused to believe.”
Hannah stared.
She looked strangely familiar.
Like Elena.
Like Sofia.
Like someone from an old photograph.
The woman stepped closer.
Her eyes moved to Lily.
Then Victor.
Then Elena.
Finally, she spoke.
“Twenty-five years ago, you saved my life.”
She looked at Elena.
“But you made one mistake.”
Elena swallowed.
“What?”
The woman looked at Lily.
“You thought hiding me would end the war.”
A pause.
“It only delayed it.”
Victor stepped forward.
“Who are you?”
The woman looked directly at him.
“My name is Clara Rossi.”
Everyone froze.
Elena whispered:
“Clara…”
Clara smiled sadly.
“Yes.”
“The daughter you thought you lost.”
The vault became silent.
Because the impossible had happened again.
Another survivor.
Another secret.
Another piece of a family broken by lies.
Clara looked at Lily.
“She is the reason I came back.”
Hannah tightened her grip.
“Why?”
Clara looked at her.
“Because everyone wants to control her.”
A pause.
“But I want to protect her.”
Victor studied her.
“You expect us to trust you?”
Clara smiled faintly.
“No.”
She looked at the files.
“You shouldn’t trust anyone.”
Then she looked behind them.
At the vault entrance.
“Especially not the person who followed us here.”
Everyone turned.
A figure stood in the doorway.
Someone they thought was on their side.
Someone who had helped them.
Someone who knew everything.
Victor’s face changed.
Because he recognized the betrayal instantly.
The person stepped into the light.
And said:
“I’m sorry, Victor.”
May you like
A pause.
“But the Council gave me no choice.”
