Chapter 6 - The Enemy Inside The Mansion

The message remained on every screen.
Every phone.
Every security monitor.
Every device connected to the Moretti estate.
BRING THE GIRL OUT, OR THE MANSION BURNS.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
The threat was simple.
Clear.
Terrifying.
They didn’t want money.
They didn’t want revenge.
They wanted Lily.
Hannah held her daughter tighter.
“No.”
The word came out quietly.
But everyone heard it.
Victor looked at her.
She was afraid.
Any mother would be.
But beneath the fear was something stronger.
Determination.
“They’re not taking my daughter.”
Victor’s expression changed.
For years, people had seen him as a ruthless man.
A man who controlled others through fear.
But standing there, watching Hannah protect Lily, he saw something he had not seen in a long time.
Courage.
Not the kind that came from having power.
The kind that came from having something worth losing.
Victor turned toward his security team.
“Seal every entrance.”
The commander nodded.
“Yes, sir.”
“Double the guards around the medical room.”
“Already done.”
“And nobody enters this house without my approval.”
A pause.
Victor’s eyes moved across the room.
“Nobody.”
Everyone understood the meaning.
Because after Elena’s warning, the greatest threat was no longer outside.
It was inside.
The mansion transformed within minutes.
The elegant home became a fortress.
Security doors locked.
Cameras scanned every hallway.
Guards moved silently through the rooms.
But Hannah noticed something.
Victor wasn’t just preparing for an attack.
He was searching.
Looking at faces.
Watching reactions.
Trying to identify the person who had betrayed him.
“You think someone here is working with them,” Hannah said.
Victor didn’t deny it.
“Yes.”
“How can you know?”
“Because Adrian knew too much.”
He looked at the security screens.
“He knew about the locket.”
“He knew about Lily.”
“He knew Elena was alive.”
Hannah crossed her arms.
“So someone told him.”
Victor nodded.
“Yes.”
Elena stood nearby, silent.
She looked tired.
Older.
But Hannah noticed something.
Her mother was not weak.
She had survived twenty-five years alone.
She had lived knowing every day could be her last.
And somehow, she had still protected Hannah.
That realization made Hannah’s anger complicated.
She still felt abandoned.
But she also saw the sacrifice.
Victor brought everyone into the underground security room.
The walls were covered with monitors.
Maps.
Files.
Old photographs.
Hannah stared.
“You’ve been investigating this all this time?”
Victor looked at the screens.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
The answer was simple.
“Because I knew Elena didn’t betray me.”
Hannah looked at him.
“You thought she was alive?”
“No.”
Victor paused.
“I hoped.”
The honesty surprised her.
Victor opened an old file.
Inside were photographs of Elena.
Documents.
Reports.
Notes.
“I spent years trying to understand what happened.”
He placed a photograph on the table.
A young Elena standing beside several businessmen.
“This was taken three days before she disappeared.”
Elena looked at the picture.
“I remember.”
Victor looked at her.
“Who were they?”
Elena’s face darkened.
“The people who controlled everything.”
Hannah looked closer.
One face stood out.
An older man.
Expensive suit.
Cold eyes.
She didn’t recognize him.
“Who is that?”
Nobody answered.
Then Elena whispered:
“Thomas Vale.”
Victor’s expression changed.
Hannah noticed immediately.
“You know him.”
Victor slowly nodded.
“He was my mentor.”
The room became silent.
Thomas Vale.
Twenty-five years ago, he was the man who helped Victor build his empire.
He taught him negotiation.
Strategy.
Power.
He introduced him to important people.
He was the closest thing Victor had to a father figure.
But after Elena disappeared, Thomas vanished from Victor’s life.
Victor had assumed he was dead.
Or had left the country.
Now he understood.
He had been hiding.
Waiting.
Planning.
Hannah looked at Victor.
“He’s the one who framed you?”
Elena nodded.
“Yes.”
Victor stared at the photograph.
“Why?”
Elena answered:
“Because you trusted him.”
The words cut deeper than any weapon.
A loud alarm suddenly sounded.
Everyone turned.
A guard rushed into the room.
“Mr. Moretti.”
Victor stood.
“What happened?”
The guard looked nervous.
“We lost camera access in the west wing.”
“How?”
“We don’t know.”
Victor immediately looked at the screens.
One by one, several cameras went dark.
Not damaged.
Disabled.
Someone was controlling them.
From inside.
Victor’s face became cold.
“Find everyone who has access codes.”
The commander checked the system.
Then froze.
“Sir…”
“What?”
“There are three active access points.”
Victor stepped closer.
“Names.”
The commander hesitated.
“Your head of security.”
A pause.
“Your private assistant.”
And then…
“Your personal driver.”
Nobody spoke.
Victor’s eyes narrowed.
Three people close to him.
Three possible traitors.
Hannah looked at him.
“How do you know which one?”
Victor stared at the screens.
“I don’t.”
Then he looked toward Lily.
“But they know we’re here.”
The first attack came ten minutes later.
Not from the front gates.
Not from outside.
From inside the mansion.
A guard walked into the hallway.
His weapon was lowered.
His expression calm.
Too calm.
Victor noticed immediately.
“Stop.”
The guard froze.
Everyone turned.
Victor stared.
“You’re not supposed to be on this floor.”
The guard smiled.
A small smile.
Almost invisible.
But enough.
Victor raised his weapon.
The man reached for his gun.
Everything happened at once.
The security team moved.
The guard fired.
Glass shattered.
Hannah screamed.
Victor grabbed her and pushed her behind the wall.
The attacker was taken down within seconds.
But the message was clear.
The enemy was already inside.
Afterward, Victor stood over the captured man.
“Who sent you?”
The man smiled.
“You really think this ends with me?”
Victor’s expression remained cold.
“Who?”
The man laughed.
“You spent your whole life building an empire.”
A pause.
“Now you’re watching it collapse.”
Victor leaned closer.
“Who?”
The man looked toward Hannah.
Then Lily.
And whispered:
“The child belongs to the truth.”
Nobody understood.
Except Elena.
Her face changed.
“What did you say?”
The man smiled.
“You know exactly what I mean.”
Elena stepped forward.
“What did Thomas promise you?”
The man’s expression changed.
Only slightly.
But Victor saw it.
Thomas.
The name affected him.
Victor grabbed the man’s collar.
“Thomas Vale sent you?”
The man said nothing.
But silence was enough.
Later that night, Hannah found Victor alone in the hallway.
The mansion was quiet again.
But this time, the silence felt dangerous.
“You blamed yourself all these years.”
Victor looked at her.
“What?”
“For my mother.”
He said nothing.
Hannah continued.
“You thought you failed her.”
Victor looked away.
“Yes.”
“But you didn’t know the truth.”
“No.”
She studied him.
“You really loved her.”
Victor’s expression softened.
“Yes.”
A pause.
“She was the only person who ever saw me as something other than Victor Moretti.”
Hannah looked down.
“And now?”
Victor looked toward the room where Lily slept.
“Now I have a second chance.”
Those words surprised her.
Because they weren’t about Elena.
They were about Lily.
Suddenly, Elena appeared at the end of the hallway.
Her face was pale.
“Hannah.”
They turned.
“What happened?”
Elena held something in her hand.
A small piece of silver metal.
The missing part of the locket.
Hannah stared.
“You found that?”
Elena nodded.
“I hid it twenty-five years ago.”
Victor stepped closer.
“Where?”
Elena looked toward the mansion walls.
“Inside this house.”
Everyone froze.
Victor frowned.
“Inside my house?”
“Yes.”
“Where?”
Elena looked at him.
“Behind the foundation stone.”
A chill moved through him.
Because there was only one place in the entire mansion with a foundation stone like that.
The original room.
The first room Victor ever built.
His private office.
The place where Thomas Vale had spent years working beside him.
Elena whispered:
“The proof was never in the locket.”
Hannah looked confused.
“Then where is it?”
Elena looked toward the dark hallway.
“It was hidden where Victor trusted Thomas the most.”
A sudden noise echoed from upstairs.
A door opening.
Slowly.
Everyone turned.
The mansion lights flickered.
Then the security monitors displayed one new image.
A live camera feed.
From Victor’s private office.
Someone was standing inside.
Someone who should not have been there.
The camera zoomed in.
And Victor Moretti went completely still.
Because the person standing in his office…
May you like
Was Thomas Vale.
And he was holding Lily’s medical file.
