Chapter 11 - The Secret Beneath The Old Family House

The old Rossi-Moretti estate had been abandoned for more than two decades.

Most people in New York had forgotten it existed.

The property sat beyond the city limits, hidden behind tall iron fences and overgrown trees. Snow covered the long driveway, erasing the footprints of anyone who had passed through recently.

But Victor Moretti remembered every detail.

The cracked stone pathway.

The old wooden doors.

The window where Marco used to sit as a child and watch storms roll across the land.

The house was not just a building.

It was where everything began.

And where everything had been buried.

The car stopped in front of the entrance.

Nobody spoke.

Hannah looked through the window.

“This is where you grew up?”

Victor nodded.

“Yes.”

She looked at him.

“You never came back?”

A long silence.

“No.”

“Why?”

Victor looked at the old house.

“Because everyone I loved disappeared here.”

Hannah understood.

The place wasn’t a home anymore.

It was a grave filled with memories.

The group stepped out into the snow.

Victor carried the old key Elena had kept hidden for years.

Marco walked beside him.

The brothers moved quietly.

Two men who had lost twenty-five years together.

Two men who were finally standing side by side again.

Hannah stayed close to Lily.

She still had thousands of questions.

About Elena.

About Marco.

About Victor.

About the life she never knew existed.

But something had changed.

Before tonight, she had felt like everyone was keeping her outside the truth.

Now…

She was finally inside.

Even if the truth was terrifying.

Elena walked beside her.

For several minutes, neither woman spoke.

Finally, Elena whispered:

“I know you may never forgive me.”

Hannah looked ahead.

“I don’t know if I can.”

Elena nodded.

“I understand.”

“But…”

Hannah looked down at Lily.

“I’m trying.”

Those two words meant more to Elena than anything else.

Because forgiveness was not something she could demand.

It was something she had to earn.

Slowly.

Every day.

Inside the house, everything remained untouched.

Furniture covered in white sheets.

Dust covering old photographs.

A frozen clock hanging on the wall.

Time had stopped here.

Victor walked toward the main hallway.

At the end was a large wooden door.

His old office.

The same room where Marco had hidden the truth.

Victor placed his hand on the handle.

For a moment, he hesitated.

Marco noticed.

“You’re afraid.”

Victor looked at him.

“No.”

Marco gave a small smile.

“You always did that.”

“Did what?”

“Pretended you weren’t.”

For the first time in twenty-five years…

Victor almost smiled.

“You haven’t changed.”

“Neither have you.”

A pause.

“Still carrying everything alone.”

Victor looked away.

But this time, he didn’t deny it.

The office was dark.

Victor turned on an old lamp.

The room slowly appeared.

A wooden desk.

Old books.

Family photographs.

A fireplace.

Everything exactly as it had been.

Hannah looked around.

“This is where you worked?”

Victor nodded.

“This is where Marco and I planned our future.”

Marco looked at the desk.

“Until Thomas came.”

The atmosphere changed.

The name still carried pain.

Victor walked toward the fireplace.

“There.”

He pointed at a stone near the bottom.

“That’s where we hid things when we were children.”

Hannah frowned.

“You hid things there?”

Marco nodded.

“Letters. Toys. Secrets.”

A small smile appeared.

“We thought nobody would ever find them.”

Victor touched the stone.

“But someone did.”

He pulled.

Nothing happened.

He tried again.

Still nothing.

Marco stepped closer.

“Move left.”

Victor looked surprised.

“You remember?”

Marco smiled.

“I remember everything.”

Victor moved the stone slightly.

A hidden mechanism clicked.

The wall opened.

Behind it was a small compartment.

Inside was an old metal box.

Everyone became silent.

Victor removed the box carefully.

The metal was damaged by time.

But the lock remained intact.

Elena stepped closer.

“That’s it.”

Victor looked at her.

“You knew?”

“I knew Michael hid something here.”

“But not what?”

She shook her head.

“No.”

Victor opened the box.

Inside were several items.

Old documents.

Photographs.

A journal.

And one final envelope.

The handwriting immediately caught Victor’s attention.

His face changed.

“Marco…”

Marco looked.

“What?”

Victor handed him the envelope.

The name written on it was clear.

For Victor and Marco Moretti.

Their father’s handwriting.

A letter from the past.

A letter nobody had ever seen.

Victor opened it.

The paper was old.

Fragile.

But the words remained clear.

My sons,

If you are reading this, then the truth has finally returned.

I failed both of you.

I built something that attracted people who valued power more than family.

Thomas Vale was never your friend.

Isabella Rossi was never your ally.

They both wanted the same thing.

Control.

Victor stopped reading.

Marco continued.

His face became darker with every line.

The letter continued:

The greatest mistake I made was believing loyalty came from fear.

It does not.

Loyalty comes from love.

And the person who understands that will be the one who saves this family.

Everyone looked at Lily.

Hannah’s heart tightened.

Then Victor found something else.

A small photograph.

A photograph of Elena.

But she wasn’t alone.

Beside her was a young child.

A baby.

Victor looked confused.

“Elena…”

She stepped closer.

Then froze.

Because she recognized the picture.

“No.”

Hannah looked at her.

“What?”

Elena took the photograph.

Her hands shook.

“This…”

She couldn’t finish.

Marco looked.

And his expression changed.

“Impossible.”

Victor stared.

“Who is the child?”

Nobody answered.

Then Elena whispered:

“My sister.”

Hannah frowned.

“Your sister?”

Elena nodded slowly.

“She was supposed to be gone.”

Victor looked at Marco.

“You knew?”

Marco shook his head.

“No.”

Elena looked terrified.

“Isabella told me she died.”

A cold silence filled the room.

Suddenly…

A sound came from upstairs.

Everyone froze.

Footsteps.

Someone walking through the abandoned house.

Slow.

Calm.

Confident.

Victor immediately grabbed his weapon.

Marco moved beside him.

The others stepped back.

Hannah held Lily.

The footsteps stopped.

Then a voice came from the hallway.

A woman’s voice.

“You always were good at finding things, Victor.”

Everyone froze.

Because they knew that voice.

Not Isabella.

Someone else.

Someone from the past.

Someone Elena thought was gone.

The woman stepped into the doorway.

Older.

Tired.

But alive.

Elena dropped the photograph.

“No…”

The woman smiled sadly.

“Hello, sister.”

Hannah looked at Elena.

Then at the woman.

Victor whispered:

“Another Rossi.”

The woman looked directly at Lily.

And said:

“I came here because I know why everyone wants her.”

A pause.

“And I know what the locket really opens.”

Nobody moved.

The woman stepped closer.

“It doesn’t reveal the past.”

She looked at the silver necklace.

“It reveals the future.”

The lights suddenly went out.

And in the darkness, her final words echoed:

“Because Lily is not just the last Rossi.”

May you like

A pause.

“She is the one who can destroy them all.”
