Chapter 1 - The Baby Who Walked Into The Lion’s Office

A baby girl crawled across the marble floor and whispered: "Da..."

When billionaire Alessandro Duca entered his private office, he found his black silk tie wrapped around tiny fingers beside a broken silver keychain.

The back of the keychain had three scratched letters: "M.D."

Alessandro realized this wasn't an accident.

I had spent eight months hiding my daughter from the most dangerous man in Manhattan.

Not because I hated him.

Not because I wanted revenge.

Because I knew what would happen if Alessandro Duca discovered the truth.

People in Manhattan didn't say Alessandro's name loudly.

They lowered their voices.

They talked about his business empire, his ruthless decisions, and the way powerful men stopped arguing when he entered a room.

To everyone else, Alessandro was a man without weakness.

But I knew one thing about powerful men.

The thing they feared most was not losing money.

It was discovering they had something to lose.

My name was Elena Moretti.

For six years, I worked inside the Duca mansion as a private assistant. I organized meetings, managed schedules, and stayed invisible.

That was the only reason I survived.

Alessandro never looked twice at people who worked for him.

Until the night everything changed.

The night I found out I was pregnant.

I still remembered sitting alone in a small apartment, staring at the test in my shaking hand.

Two lines.

Two impossible lines.

I knew exactly who the father was.

Alessandro.

The man who had spent one unforgettable night with me after a charity event.

The man who had looked at me like I was the only person in the room.

The man who disappeared the next morning.

I never told him.

Not because I wanted to trap him.

Because three days later, I heard rumors.

Someone had tried to destroy Alessandro.

Someone close to him had betrayed him.

And the people involved were searching for anything they could use against him.

Including me.

Including a child.

So I disappeared.

I changed my number.

I moved into a smaller apartment.

I raised Mia alone.

For eight months, I believed I had protected her.

Until the day Mia crawled into Alessandro’s office.

I was supposed to be watching her.

I was supposed to keep her away from the private wing.

But the mansion was huge.

And Mia was faster than I expected.

When I realized she was gone, my heart stopped.

I ran through the hallway.

Past the security guards.

Past the private elevator.

Straight toward the only place I prayed she wouldn't enter.

Alessandro’s office.

The door was open.

That was impossible.

Nobody entered without permission.

I froze.

Inside, Alessandro was kneeling on the floor.

The same man who made executives tremble was holding my daughter’s tiny hand.

Mia was smiling.

Like she already trusted him.

Like she knew something I had spent months trying to hide.

Alessandro looked at me.

His expression was unreadable.

Then his eyes moved to Mia.

Then back to me.

"How long have you been hiding a child inside my home?"

My body went cold.

I expected anger.

I expected security.

I expected him to throw me out.

Instead, he slowly looked down at the baby holding his tie.

Mia grabbed harder.

And for the first time, Alessandro Duca looked afraid.

Not of an enemy.

Of the truth.

I stepped forward.

"Alessandro..."

He stood up.

"Tell me who she is."

I opened my mouth.

But before I could answer, someone entered behind me.

Someone who should not have been there.

A person I thought had disappeared forever.

Alessandro’s expression changed when he saw the person standing in the doorway.

Because the visitor said one sentence.

A sentence that revealed the secret I had spent eight months protecting.

"She isn't the only thing you were never told about."

May you like

Alessandro turned toward the door.

And then he saw who was standing there.
