Chapter 6 - The Truth Alessandro Never Expected to Find

The words remained on the paper long after everyone in the room had stopped speaking.

She knows everything.

Three words.

Three words that turned a simple investigation into something far more dangerous.

Because Alessandro Duca understood one thing clearly.

The enemy was not afraid of him.

They were afraid of Emma.

The little girl who had no power.

No influence.

No protection.

The little girl who had only a memory and the courage to speak.

Alessandro looked at the photograph again.

His eyes moved between the faces.

His father.

Victor Salvatore.

Daniel Alvarez.

And the fourth person.

The person whose presence in the picture changed everything.

Lucia Moretti.

The longtime housekeeper.

The woman who had worked inside the Duca estate for eleven years.

The woman who claimed she knew nothing.

Until she admitted she knew enough to understand why Daniel died.

Alessandro placed the photograph on the table.

“Find Lucia.”

Marco immediately reached for his phone.

“She was released to her room after questioning.”

“Not anymore.”

Marco looked at him.

“You think she’s involved?”

Alessandro shook his head slightly.

“I think she knows something.”

There was a difference.

In his world, knowledge could be just as dangerous as guilt.

A person did not need to commit a crime to become a target.

Sometimes knowing the truth was enough.

The search through the estate began immediately.

Security teams moved through every hallway.

Every room was checked.

Every exit monitored.

But Lucia was not in her room.

Her belongings were still there.

Her coat was hanging by the door.

Her personal bag remained on the chair.

Her room looked untouched.

Too untouched.

Alessandro stood in the doorway, studying the scene.

“She left quickly,” Marco said.

“No.”

Marco looked at him.

“She didn’t leave.”

Alessandro pointed toward the bed.

“Her bag is here.”

“Yes.”

“Her coat is here.”

“Yes.”

“If she was escaping, she would take what she needed.”

Marco looked around.

“Then where is she?”

Alessandro walked slowly into the room.

His eyes moved across every detail.

The mirror.

The closet.

The small table.

The old wooden box sitting near the window.

He stopped.

“Open that.”

A guard picked it up.

Inside were old photographs.

Letters.

Small personal items.

And beneath everything…

A folded piece of paper.

Alessandro opened it.

His expression changed.

It was not a message.

It was a map.

A hand-drawn layout of the Duca estate.

Several locations were marked with circles.

The kitchen.

The archive room.

The basement.

And one final place.

The old security wing.

A section of the mansion that had been abandoned years ago.

Marco looked over his shoulder.

“Why would Lucia mark that place?”

Alessandro folded the paper.

“Because Daniel found something there.”

The old security wing had not been used in almost a decade.

After Alessandro’s father died, the area was closed.

The cameras were outdated.

The equipment was removed.

Most employees forgot it existed.

But Alessandro remembered.

Because when he was young, his father brought him there once.

He remembered the words.

Every family has a room where the truth sleeps.

At the time, Alessandro thought it was just another lesson from a powerful man.

Now he wondered if his father had been warning him.

The door was locked.

Not with a modern system.

With an old mechanical lock.

Marco looked surprised.

“Someone still uses this?”

Alessandro reached into his pocket.

He pulled out a small key.

Marco stared.

“You had that?”

“My father gave it to me.”

“Why?”

Alessandro looked at the door.

“He told me not to open it until I knew who I could trust.”

Marco was silent.

After all these years.

After everything Alessandro had built.

His father’s final warning was still waiting behind a locked door.

The key turned.

The door opened.

Dust filled the air.

Inside was a room frozen in time.

Old monitors.

Paper files.

A desk.

And a single chair facing the security screens.

Alessandro walked inside.

The room smelled old.

Forgotten.

But something was wrong.

A computer monitor on the desk was still on.

Marco immediately reached for his weapon.

“Someone was here.”

Alessandro nodded.

On the screen was a folder.

One file.

One name.

Daniel Alvarez.

Alessandro sat down.

The file contained videos.

Security recordings from nearly a year ago.

The night Daniel died.

Everyone moved closer.

The first video began.

The image showed the estate parking area.

Daniel entered.

He looked nervous.

He was carrying the same brown folder Emma remembered.

A few minutes later, another person appeared.

Victor Salvatore.

The room became silent.

Victor met Daniel outside.

They argued.

No audio.

But their expressions were clear.

Daniel was angry.

Victor was afraid.

Then the video changed.

A different angle.

A hallway.

Daniel walking toward the old security wing.

Then another person appeared.

Someone following him.

Alessandro leaned closer.

He knew that walk.

He knew that posture.

The person turned slightly toward the camera.

And Alessandro froze.

Because the person was someone he had trusted for years.

Someone who had served his family.

Someone who had always been there.

Marco whispered:

“Boss…”

Alessandro did not answer.

He couldn’t.

Because the person on the screen was not Victor.

It was someone else.

The person behind Daniel’s death.

The person who had poisoned his coffee.

The person who had been hiding inside his home.

Lucia Moretti.

The room stayed silent after the video ended.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because sometimes the truth was harder to accept than a lie.

Lucia.

The woman everyone ignored.

The woman who cleaned rooms, served meals, and walked through the mansion like she was invisible.

She had been at the center of everything.

Or had she?

Alessandro watched the final frame again.

Lucia following Daniel.

But something bothered him.

Something was wrong.

“Play it again.”

Marco looked at him.

“Boss?”

“Again.”

The video replayed.

Alessandro watched carefully.

Not Lucia.

Not Daniel.

The background.

The hallway.

The timing.

The movement.

Then he saw it.

A shadow.

Someone else.

Standing near the corner.

Watching.

Waiting.

“Stop.”

The video froze.

Marco looked.

“There was another person.”

Alessandro nodded.

The person was hidden.

Only a hand visible.

A ring.

A silver ring with a small black stone.

Alessandro recognized it immediately.

Because he had seen it before.

On Victor Salvatore’s hand.

Marco looked confused.

“But Victor was with Daniel.”

“Yes.”

Alessandro stared at the screen.

“Which means Lucia wasn’t following Daniel.”

A pause.

“She was following Victor.”

The entire story shifted.

Lucia was not the enemy.

She was a witness.

A witness who had been trying to uncover the truth.

And someone had tried to make her look guilty.

Alessandro stood.

“Find Lucia.”

Marco nodded.

“But where?”

Alessandro looked at the map again.

The locations.

The circles.

The final mark.

The basement.

“She left us a path.”

The basement beneath the estate was older than the mansion itself.

Stone walls.

Narrow corridors.

Places nobody visited anymore.

Alessandro walked ahead.

Marco followed with security.

After several minutes, they found a small hidden room.

Inside was Lucia.

She was sitting against the wall.

Alive.

But terrified.

When she saw Alessandro, tears filled her eyes.

“I knew you would find this.”

Alessandro stopped.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Lucia looked down.

“Because I tried.”

A painful silence.

“I tried to tell your father years ago.”

Alessandro’s expression changed.

“My father?”

Lucia nodded.

“He knew.”

The words shocked him.

“Knew what?”

“That someone close to him was stealing from the family.”

She looked at Alessandro.

“Your father knew Victor was dangerous.”

Alessandro felt the ground shift beneath him.

“My father trusted Victor.”

“No.”

Lucia shook her head.

“He trusted him enough to watch him.”

She looked toward the old files.

“Your father left evidence.”

“Why didn’t he expose him?”

Lucia’s voice became softer.

“Because he wanted you to survive.”

Alessandro went silent.

His father had always been described as powerful.

Fearless.

Untouchable.

But now he understood.

His father had not been weak.

He had been protecting him.

Lucia reached into her pocket.

She pulled out a small envelope.

“Daniel gave this to me before he died.”

Alessandro took it.

Inside was a letter.

Only a few lines.

Written by Daniel.

If Alessandro finds this, tell him the truth. The person closest to him is the one he must fear most.

Alessandro looked up.

“Why now?”

Lucia looked toward the ceiling.

“Because they know you are close.”

A pause.

“And they know Emma remembers.”

The words hit him again.

The little girl.

The witness.

The reason this entire secret was beginning to collapse.

Alessandro folded the letter carefully.

Then he made a decision.

One that would change everything.

“No one touches Emma.”

His voice was quiet.

But absolute.

“Not Victor.”

“Not anyone.”

Because for years, Alessandro Duca had protected his empire.

Now he would protect something far more important.

The child who saved his life.

And the truth that someone had killed to bury.
