Chapter 7 - The Secret Behind The Second Family

A woman stood inside a dark room holding a wedding photograph: "I spent fifteen years waiting for you to discover what your father hid."
When mafia boss Adrian Cole turned around, he found a woman connected to the secret behind his birth.
Three words were written on the back of the photograph:
"Not his son."
Adrian suddenly realized the truth about his family was far bigger than betrayal.
The woman standing behind him stepped into the light.
Adrian looked at her.
He had never seen her before.
But something about her face felt familiar.
Not because he remembered her.
Because he had seen her before in old photographs.
Standing beside his father.
Richard immediately moved forward.
"Adrian, don't listen to her."
That sentence made Adrian turn.
Not toward the woman.
Toward his father.
Because for the first time, Richard sounded afraid.
"Why?"
Richard said nothing.
Adrian looked between them.
"Why are you afraid of her?"
The woman smiled sadly.
"Because he knows who I am."
Adrian looked at her.
"Then tell me."
She held the photograph tighter.
"My name is Elena."
Richard's expression changed.
Claire covered her mouth.
Adrian noticed.
Everyone knew.
Again.
Everyone except him.
"Who is she?"
Richard looked away.
"Someone from the past."
Elena laughed quietly.
"That's what you always say when you want people to forget."
Adrian stepped closer.
"Enough."
His voice filled the room.
"No more secrets."
Nobody spoke.
"I want the truth."
Elena looked at him.
"Your father and I were married before he met your mother."
Adrian froze.
The words felt impossible.
Richard immediately interrupted.
"That was over."
Elena looked at him.
"Was it?"
Adrian turned toward Richard.
"You were married before?"
Richard remained silent.
That was the answer.
Adrian felt something breaking inside him.
His entire life had been built around stories.
Stories other people told him.
Stories he never questioned.
His father was dead.
His mother was a victim.
His family protected him.
Emily betrayed him.
But now every piece was changing.
"Why didn't I know?"
Elena looked at him.
"Because they wanted you to believe a different story."
Adrian looked at Richard.
"What story?"
Elena walked toward the desk.
She placed the wedding photograph down.
"You were born into a war you knew nothing about."
Adrian stared at the photograph.
It showed Richard and Elena together.
But there was something else.
A child.
A baby.
A small blanket.
His heartbeat changed.
"Who is that?"
Nobody answered.
Then Elena whispered:
"You."
Adrian stepped back.
"No."
Richard closed his eyes.
"Adrian..."
"No."
His voice became louder.
"Tell me she is lying."
Richard couldn't.
And Adrian saw the truth.
Not because someone admitted it.
Because his father couldn't deny it.
The room felt colder.
"So my whole life was a lie?"
Richard looked at him.
"No."
"Then what was real?"
Richard struggled to answer.
"Your mother loved you."
Adrian laughed bitterly.
"My mother also let me believe you were dead."
Richard looked down.
"Because she was trying to protect you."
"From what?"
Elena answered.
"From me."
Everyone looked at her.
Adrian frowned.
"What?"
Elena looked at Richard.
"He told you I was dangerous."
Richard said nothing.
"He told you I disappeared because I wanted power."
She shook her head.
"I disappeared because someone tried to kill me."
Adrian listened carefully.
"And that someone was?"
Elena looked at Richard.
"Someone inside this family."
The same words.
Again.
The same warning.
Adrian walked toward the documents on the table.
He picked up Emily's notes.
"She knew."
Elena nodded.
"Your wife found my records."
Adrian looked at her.
"Where is Emily?"
Elena's expression softened.
"She came to me."
Richard reacted.
"When?"
Elena looked at him.
"Before the Christmas party."
Adrian felt his stomach tighten.
"She knew everything before that night?"
"Not everything."
Elena looked at the notebook.
"But enough."
Adrian remembered Emily standing across the ballroom.
The pain in her eyes.
She wasn't just hurt by the proposal.
She knew something.
Something she was carrying alone.
"What did she tell you?"
Elena hesitated.
"That she didn't know who to trust."
Those words hurt more than Adrian expected.
Because Emily had been right.
She had been surrounded by people hiding things.
Including him.
Adrian looked at his father.
"Where is she?"
Richard remained silent.
Adrian moved closer.
"Where is my wife?"
Richard finally spoke.
"She went to find proof."
"Proof of what?"
Richard looked at Elena.
Then at Adrian.
"The person who ordered your father's death."
Adrian froze.
"Who?"
Richard's face became serious.
"Someone who is still close to you."
The room went silent.
Then Adrian's phone vibrated.
Another message.
Unknown number.
He opened it.
A video.
The title:
"Emily's Final Recording."
Adrian pressed play.
The screen showed Emily sitting in a dark room.
Her face was tired.
But calm.
She looked directly at the camera.
"Adrian."
His heart tightened.
"If you're watching this, then I know you found Elena."
Adrian looked up.
Elena closed her eyes.
Emily continued.
"I wanted to tell you myself."
A pause.
"But I knew you wouldn't believe me."
Adrian swallowed.
Emily looked down.
"The night you proposed to Vanessa wasn't the first time Adrian Cole betrayed me."
His face changed.
She continued.
"It was just the first time you betrayed me in front of everyone."
Claire looked away.
Richard remained silent.
Emily continued.
"I found the truth about your family."
She lifted a document.
"And I found the person who has been controlling everything."
The video suddenly glitched.
Adrian leaned closer.
Emily's voice became distorted.
Then one clear sentence came through.
"The person you trust the most is the person who destroyed us."
The screen froze.
Adrian stared.
The video ended.
But there was one more file.
Attached.
A photograph.
He opened it.
It showed Emily standing outside the mansion.
Standing beside someone.
Someone Adrian knew.
Someone who had been with him every day.
Someone who had helped him search for her.
Adrian's face turned pale.
Because underneath the photograph was one sentence.
"Your enemy has been protecting you."
The lights suddenly went out.
A sound came from upstairs.
A woman's scream.
Claire ran toward the stairs.
"That's Emily."
Adrian followed.
They reached the second floor.
The bedroom door was open.
Inside was a single envelope on the bed.
Adrian picked it up.
His name was written on the front.
But before he opened it, his phone received one final message.
A location.
And one sentence.
"Come alone if you want to see who really betrayed you."
The address belonged to a place Adrian knew better than anywhere.
His childhood home.
The place where his father disappeared.

The front door of the old house was already open.
Someone was waiting inside.
