Chapter 6 - The Night Everything Was Planned

The door handle stopped moving.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody breathed.
Leandro stood in front of the garden house door, staring at the shadow outside.
The voice on the other side had been calm.
Too calm.
Like the person knew exactly how much fear those words would create.
Camila's fingers tightened around Leandro's arm.
"Don't open it."
Her voice was barely a whisper.
Leandro looked at her.
"Who is it?"
Camila didn't answer.
That scared him more than anything.
Because Camila had faced humiliation for eight months.
She had stayed silent while people treated her like a servant.
She had hidden the truth about his father being alive.
But this...
This was different.
She was afraid.
A loud knock hit the door.
Three times.
Slow.
Deliberate.
"Leandro."
The voice came again.
"You deserve to know what happened before your father disappeared."
Alejandro immediately moved forward.
"Stay away from that door."
Leandro looked at him.
"Why?"
His father said nothing.
That silence was enough.
Leandro walked toward the door.
Camila grabbed his hand.
"Please."
He looked back at her.
For a moment, he saw the same woman he fell in love with years ago.
The woman who always stayed strong for everyone.
Now she was asking him not to do something.
Not because she was weak.
Because she knew the danger.
Leandro slowly opened the door.
Nobody was there.
Only an old envelope lying on the ground.
No name.
No address.
No explanation.
He picked it up.
Alejandro's expression changed immediately.
"Don't."
Leandro looked at him.
"You know what this is."
His father looked away.
That answer was enough.
Leandro opened the envelope.
Inside was a single page.
A handwritten note.
The first line made his heart stop.
"Your father didn't disappear because of your family."
He continued reading.
"He disappeared because of the woman you trusted most."
Leandro's eyes moved slowly.
Then stopped.
The woman you trusted most.
There was only one person that sentence could mean.
Camila.
He looked at her.
Her face went pale.
"No."
She shook her head.
"Leandro, don't believe that."
He looked back at the paper.
There was more.
"Ask Camila what happened the night Alejandro Vale vanished."
The note ended there.
No signature.
No explanation.
Just a question.
A question that immediately created doubt.
Leandro looked at his wife.
"Camila."
She closed her eyes.
"I knew this would happen."
"What would happen?"
"That they would use this against me."
His voice became quieter.
"Then tell me the truth."
She looked at him.
"I didn't kill your father."
The words shocked him.
Because he had never accused her.
But she had answered as if she expected that question.
Alejandro stepped forward.
"Leandro, listen to her."
He turned.
"You knew?"
His father looked guilty.
"Yes."
"You knew people would blame her?"
"I knew they would try."
Leandro looked between them.
"Then why didn't anyone tell me?"
Nobody answered.
Because there was no good answer.
The next morning, Leandro moved everyone into the library.
No servants.
No employees.
No excuses.
Only family.
Victoria sat across from him.
Her confidence was gone.
Adrian stood near the window.
Richard remained silent.
Alejandro sat beside Leandro.
And Camila sat next to him.
For the first time in months, she was not standing behind someone.
She was beside him.
Leandro placed the documents on the table.
"The lies end today."
Victoria looked at him.
"You don't understand what you're doing."
"No."
He looked at her.
"I finally understand."
He opened the first file.
"Money transfers."
Then another.
"Fake contracts."
Another.
"Hidden accounts."
He looked around the room.
"How long did you think this would stay hidden?"
Victoria's face tightened.
"You think you know everything because you found some papers?"
Leandro leaned forward.
"No."
He placed the USB drive on the table.
"I know because I heard you."
Everyone became silent.
Victoria looked at Richard.
A small movement.
A mistake.
But Leandro noticed.
"You were involved together."
Richard didn't deny it.
Victoria looked away.
Leandro felt something break inside him.
Not anger.
Disappointment.
Because betrayal from strangers was expected.
Betrayal from family was different.
"Why?"
His voice softened.
"Why did you do this?"
Victoria looked at him.
"Because your father was destroying everything."
Alejandro stared.
"I was protecting the company."
"No."
Victoria shook her head.
"You were protecting your pride."
The room became tense.
Leandro looked at his father.
Then at his mother.
A lifetime of memories suddenly felt uncertain.
"What happened that night?"
Nobody spoke.
"The night my father disappeared."
Victoria looked down.
Richard moved slightly.
Then Alejandro spoke.
"I found out they were planning to take control of the company."
Leandro listened.
"I confronted them."
"And?"
His father took a breath.
"They wanted me gone."
Leandro looked at Camila.
"And she was there?"
Camila nodded.
"I arrived after."
"After what?"
She looked at him.
"After your father was attacked."
The room went silent.
Leandro froze.
"Attacked?"
Alejandro nodded.
"I survived."
"Then why did everyone believe you died?"
His father looked at the floor.
"Because someone needed me to disappear."
A phone suddenly rang.
Everyone looked.
It was Richard's phone.
He didn't move.
Leandro noticed.
"Answer it."
Richard stayed silent.
"Answer it."
Slowly, Richard picked up.
Nobody heard the voice on the other side.
But Richard's expression changed.
Fear.
Real fear.
He hung up.
Leandro stood.
"Who was that?"
Richard didn't answer.
Leandro walked closer.
"Who was that?"
Richard looked at him.
"The person who has been controlling this entire situation."
"Who?"
Richard swallowed.
Then whispered:
"Someone inside this house."
Everyone looked around.
The library suddenly felt different.
Because the enemy wasn't outside.
It was someone sitting with them.
Someone who knew every secret.
Someone who knew every move.
Leandro looked at each person.
His mother.
His uncle.
His father.
His wife.
Then his eyes stopped.
On Camila.
Not because he suspected her.
Because she was staring at something behind him.
Her face had lost all color.
"Leandro..."
He turned slowly.
On the wall behind him was an old family portrait.
A portrait taken years ago.
But someone had scratched a name into the frame.
A name that nobody should have known.
A name that changed everything.
Camila whispered:
"That's the person who ordered your father's disappearance."
Leandro stepped closer to the portrait.
May you like
The hidden name was carved beneath the frame.
And it belonged to...
