Chapter 1 - The Wife Nobody Recognized

A woman carried a heavy garbage bag outside the mansion and whispered: "Please... just let me finish this."

When billionaire Leandro returned home secretly, he found an old apron hanging beside a broken cleaning cart.

On the back of the apron tag, four words were written: "Still waiting for you."

Leandro realized this was not the home he left.

For eight months, Leandro had imagined one moment.

The moment he would walk through the front door of his mansion, surprise Camila, wrap his arms around her, and finally make up for every lonely night they spent apart.

He had spent months building his company overseas.

Every phone call with Camila had ended the same way.

"I miss you."

"I can't wait until you're home."

Those words had kept him going through endless meetings, sleepless nights, and difficult negotiations.

Camila had always been his reason.

She was the only person who loved him before his billions meant anything.

Before the luxury cars.

Before the private jets.

Before the mansion.

She had loved the man, not the money.

That was why he wanted to surprise her.

He did not tell anyone he was coming back early.

Not his employees.

Not his relatives.

Not even his family.

He wanted to see her real reaction.

But when his black car stopped outside the mansion gates, Leandro saw something that made him forget how to breathe.

Camila.

His wife.

The woman who once wore elegant dresses beside him at charity events.

The woman whose smile had filled every room.

Was standing outside.

Carrying garbage.

She wore a faded beige dress.

An old cream-colored apron covered her clothes.

Her beautiful dark hair was tied into a careless bun.

Her shoulders looked tired.

Her hands looked rough.

Leandro stared through the car window.

At first, he thought he was seeing the wrong person.

Then Camila turned slightly.

And he knew.

It was her.

His wife.

The woman he had left in a mansion full of comfort.

The woman he had promised to protect.

A gardener walked past her without saying anything.

A housekeeper placed another box of supplies beside her.

Nobody helped.

Nobody asked if she was okay.

They treated her like she belonged there.

Like she was staff.

Leandro's fingers tightened around the steering wheel.

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

He stayed hidden.

He needed to understand.

Because Camila was not the kind of person who would complain.

She always protected people.

Even people who hurt her.

That was one of the reasons he loved her.

But now that kindness seemed to have become a weakness everyone was using.

The mansion doors opened.

Leandro watched his mother, Victoria, walk outside.

She looked exactly the same as always.

Perfect hair.

Expensive clothes.

A confident smile.

She looked at Camila holding the garbage bag.

"You're taking too long."

Camila lowered her eyes.

"I'm sorry. I'll finish quickly."

Leandro felt his chest tighten.

Sorry?

Why was his wife apologizing?

Victoria looked around before speaking.

"Remember your position in this house."

Camila said nothing.

She simply picked up the bag and walked away.

Leandro sat inside the car.

Frozen.

Eight months.

Eight months away.

And during that time...

His wife had become a servant in her own home.

He wanted to open the door immediately.

He wanted to confront everyone.

But something stopped him.

A question.

Who had allowed this to happen?

And why had Camila hidden it from him?

That night, Leandro entered the mansion quietly.

He walked through the same halls where he and Camila had once celebrated anniversaries.

Everything looked beautiful.

Perfect.

Expensive.

But now it felt cold.

He found Camila in the kitchen.

She was washing dishes alone.

At midnight.

Leandro watched from the doorway.

She looked exhausted.

But when she thought nobody was watching, she touched the wedding ring around her neck.

Not her finger.

Her neck.

Because she had hidden it under her clothes.

Like she was afraid someone would see.

Leandro finally stepped forward.

"Camila."

The plate slipped from her hand.

She turned around.

Her eyes widened.

"Leandro?"

For a second, she looked happy.

Then fear appeared.

Not surprise.

Fear.

"Why are you here?"

He walked closer.

"I came home early."

Her expression changed.

She looked behind him.

Then toward the hallway.

"Did anyone see you?"

Leandro noticed.

She was not asking because she was worried about him.

She was worried about what would happen if people knew he was back.

His voice became quiet.

"What happened while I was gone?"

Camila looked away.

"Nothing."

Leandro stared at her.

He knew her too well.

That was the one answer she gave when something was terribly wrong.

"Camila..."

She forced a smile.

"I'm just tired."

Before he could respond, footsteps came from the hallway.

Victoria appeared.

Her expression changed when she saw Leandro.

For the first time in years...

His mother looked afraid.

"Leandro."

He looked at her.

Then at Camila.

Then at the apron his wife was wearing.

Something inside him broke.

Because he finally understood.

Everyone knew.

Everyone except him.

The next morning, Leandro found the old apron hanging near the laundry room.

He turned it over.

And saw something written inside the fabric.

A message someone had hidden where nobody would look.

It was only five words.

May you like

"She never told you why."

And behind him, the mansion door slowly opened...
