Chapter 15 - The Healing Process

The recovery did not happen overnight. The trauma of twelve years of grief, deceit, and terror required time to mend.
For the next six months, the Blackwood Estate remained quiet. The grand wedding that had been interrupted was put on hold as the family focused on rebuilding their shattered lives.
Evelyn moved into the restored Vance Manor, spending long afternoons in the garden with Clara, recounting all the lost years, sharing stories, and catching up on a lifetime of missed birthdays and Christmases.
Julian proved himself to be the bedrock of the family. He spent his days helping Clara navigate the complex legal restructuring of her family's real estate firm, ensuring that every employee was treated fairly and that the corruption of Richard’s tenure was completely purged.
And then there was Lily.
Lily's aunt, a quiet woman who had struggled financially to raise the orphaned girl, was deeply moved when Clara and Julian offered to pay for Lily's entire private education and establish a college fund in her name. Lily became a constant, joyful presence at Vance Manor, running through the gardens, her laughter filling the halls that had been silent for over a decade.
One evening, while sitting on the porch watching the sunset over the Atlantic, Julian wrapped his arms around Clara from behind.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked softly, kissing her cheek.
Clara looked down at the gold locket hanging against her sweater. "I'm thinking that it's time."
Julian smiled. "Time for what?"
"Time to finish what we started six months ago," Clara said, looking up into his eyes with absolute certainty. "I want to marry you, Julian. But this time... no big press, no corporate investors, no two hundred strangers."

"Just us?" Julian asked.
"Just us. And the people who truly matter."
