Chapter 1 - The Woman Who Made Twelve Soldiers Fall

A woman in a green tactical uniform walked onto the training field and whispered:

"Try not to embarrass yourselves."

When Commander Elias Vance arrived, he found a broken training timer belonging to the soldiers who mocked her.

But three words were scratched underneath:

"She warned us."

Elias suddenly realized this wasn't a normal demonstration.

My name was Maya Carter, and I had learned something early in my military career.

People trusted what they saw.

They saw my size.

They saw my calm expression.

They saw a woman walking alone into a training field surrounded by twelve of the strongest soldiers at Ravenwood Tactical Center.

And they decided they already knew the ending.

The first laugh came from Sergeant Cole Ramirez.

He leaned against the metal fence, crossing his arms as I approached.

"Is this a joke?" he asked.

The others laughed.

I stopped in the center of the field.

I looked at every face watching me.

Some were curious.

Most were amused.

A few were already waiting for me to fail.

Commander Elias Vance stood near the observation window, silent.

He was the only person who did not laugh.

"Captain Carter," he called.

I turned.

"These men have trained together for years. They know each other's movements."

"I know."

"Then why accept this challenge?"

I looked back at the soldiers.

"Because they think teamwork means they can't be beaten."

The laughter stopped for a second.

Then Ramirez smiled.

"You're confident."

"No," I said.

"I'm prepared."

The timer started.

Six minutes later, every soldier who had laughed at me was on the ground.

Not injured.

Not humiliated.

Just defeated.

I moved faster than they expected.

I used their strength against them.

I watched their shoulders.

Their feet.

Their breathing.

Every movement told me what they would do next.

The last soldier standing was Ramirez.

He looked different now.

The confidence was gone.

"You trained for this your whole life?" he asked.

I stepped closer.

"No."

He frowned.

"Then how?"

I looked toward the observation window.

Because the truth was something I had never told anyone.

I wasn't just trained.

I was rebuilt.

Years earlier, I had been part of a special military program that created soldiers who could survive impossible situations.

Most people called it a failure.

I called it the reason I was still alive.

After the demonstration, the soldiers no longer laughed.

They watched me differently.

But respect never lasted long in the military.

There was always another test.

That night, Commander Vance asked me to meet him privately.

He closed the office door.

"You know they will ask questions."

"I expected that."

"You can't keep hiding what happened overseas."

My hands tightened.

"I don't want anyone knowing."

He studied me.

"Especially not about the dog?"

I froze.

Nobody at Ravenwood knew about Atlas.

Nobody knew the Belgian Malinois had saved my life during my last mission.

Nobody knew Atlas wasn't just a military working dog.

He was the only reason I survived.

The next morning, Atlas arrived at the training facility.

The moment he saw me, he ran toward me.

The soldiers watched.

They had never seen a war dog react that way.

Ramirez looked confused.

"He doesn't act like that with anyone else."

I placed my hand on Atlas's harness.

"Because he knows me."

But before I could explain, the facility alarm suddenly exploded through the building.

Red lights flashed.

The training field doors locked automatically.

Soldiers reached for their weapons.

Commander Vance grabbed his radio.

Then every screen inside the facility went black.

A voice came through the speakers.

"Captain Carter."

I froze.

Because the voice belonged to someone who was supposed to be dead.

May you like

The lights went out.

And the training room doors began opening from the inside.
