Chapter 10 - The Truth Buried Beneath The Rossi Name

For several seconds, nobody moved.

The words stayed in the room like a storm nobody knew how to escape.

Lorenzo stared at Marco.

Not with anger.

Not yet.

With disbelief.

“My father?”

The question came out almost like a whisper.

Marco nodded slowly.

“I know what it sounds like.”

Lorenzo’s expression hardened.

“No.”

His voice became colder.

“You don’t get to walk into my home after everything you’ve done and accuse my father.”

Marco looked down.

“I knew you wouldn’t believe me.”

“Because you’re lying.”

“I wish I was.”

The silence returned.

I stood near the staircase, holding my breath.

I had seen Lorenzo angry before.

I had seen him afraid.

But this was different.

This was the pain of someone whose entire understanding of his life had just been destroyed.

His father.

The man who raised him.

The man who taught him everything about the Rossi name.

The man who was supposed to protect him.

Could he really have been the person behind everything?

Lorenzo stepped closer to Marco.

“Explain.”

One word.

But it carried years of pain.

Marco looked toward the nursery.

Toward Leo.

Then back at his brother.

“Your father never wanted you to leave the family.”

Lorenzo frowned.

“What does that mean?”

“He wanted control.”

Marco took a slow breath.

“When you married Elena, everything changed.”

I watched Lorenzo’s face.

“Elena made you different.”

Marco continued.

“She made you question the way the family operated. She convinced you to move away from certain businesses. She convinced you that Leo should grow up differently.”

His voice lowered.

“Your father saw that as weakness.”

Lorenzo said nothing.

Because deep down, he remembered.

The arguments.

The disagreements.

The moments when Elena told him he did not have to become the same kind of man who came before him.

“He believed the Rossi name was built on fear.”

Marco looked at him.

“And he believed you were destroying it.”

The room felt colder.

I looked at Lorenzo.

The man standing in front of me was no longer the powerful figure everyone feared.

He was a son.

A son hearing the truth about his father.

“What about Elena?”

His voice cracked slightly.

“What did she have to do with that?”

Marco looked away.

“She found out.”

Lorenzo froze.

“She discovered what your father was planning.”

A pause.

“She was going to tell you.”

Everything inside the room stopped.

Because everyone understood what came next.

“She was going to take Leo and leave.”

Marco’s voice became quieter.

“And your father couldn’t allow that.”

Lorenzo closed his eyes.

For a moment, I thought he might break.

The man who had survived everything.

The man who had carried grief for years.

Was finally facing the one truth he never wanted to know.

The person who destroyed his family was not an enemy.

It was the person who created it.

“Where is the proof?”

Lorenzo opened his eyes.

His voice was controlled again.

Marco reached into his jacket.

The guards immediately raised their weapons.

Lorenzo lifted his hand.

“Wait.”

Marco slowly removed a small drive.

“I kept this because I knew one day you would need it.”

He handed it to Lorenzo.

“What is it?”

“Records.”

Marco looked at him.

“Payments. Messages. Medical reports.”

A pause.

“Everything your father tried to erase.”

Lorenzo stared at the device.

But he did not take it immediately.

“Why?”

Marco looked confused.

“Why did you keep it?”

A painful silence followed.

Then Marco answered.

“Because I was a coward.”

Nobody expected that.

“I knew something was wrong.”

His voice became heavier.

“I knew Elena’s death wasn’t an accident. I knew people around your father were involved.”

He looked at Lorenzo.

“But I was afraid.”

The anger in Lorenzo’s eyes softened slightly.

Only slightly.

“I told myself I was protecting myself.”

Marco swallowed.

“But every day after that, I watched you break.”

His eyes moved toward Leo’s room.

“And I watched your son grow up without his mother.”

For the first time, Marco looked truly regretful.

“I should have spoken sooner.”

Lorenzo took the drive.

Not because he forgave him.

But because he needed the truth.

The guards immediately moved to secure the device.

Within minutes, Lorenzo’s team began examining the files.

Nobody spoke while they waited.

The longest minutes of my life.

Then one of the security officers looked up.

His face had changed.

“Mr. Rossi.”

Lorenzo turned.

“What?”

The officer hesitated.

“The files are authentic.”

The room went silent.

“There are financial transfers from accounts connected to your father’s private companies.”

Lorenzo’s jaw tightened.

“And the medical records?”

The officer looked down.

“They show unauthorized changes.”

I felt sick.

Someone had not just hurt Elena.

Someone had planned everything.

The pregnancy.

The medical treatment.

Leo’s illness.

All of it.

Lorenzo turned away.

I saw his hands shaking.

Only slightly.

But I saw it.

I walked toward him.

“Lorenzo.”

He didn’t answer.

“He was my father.”

The words were barely audible.

I stopped.

Because there was nothing I could say.

How could someone recover from that?

How could someone accept that the person who taught you love was also capable of destroying it?

“I spent years trying to find the person who took them from me.”

His eyes filled with tears.

“And he was the person I trusted most.”

I stepped closer.

“You didn’t know.”

He looked at me.

“You couldn’t have known.”

The same words he once needed to hear.

Now they were mine to give.

“You were a son who trusted his father.”

For a moment, he said nothing.

Then he looked toward Leo’s room.

And something changed.

The pain remained.

But something stronger appeared.

Determination.

“I’m not letting him take anything else from me.”

Those words carried the strength I had seen from the beginning.

But this time, it was different.

Before, Lorenzo fought because he was angry.

Now, he fought because he loved.

The next few hours changed everything.

The Rossi organization moved quickly.

Evidence was secured.

Authorities were contacted.

The people connected to Lorenzo’s father began disappearing from positions of power.

For the first time in years, the truth was no longer hidden.

But there was still one person missing.

Lorenzo’s father.

And everyone knew he would not surrender easily.

That night, I found Lorenzo sitting beside Leo’s crib.

The baby was sleeping peacefully.

Lorenzo gently touched his son’s hand.

“Do you think he knows?”

I smiled softly.

“Knows what?”

“That I almost lost him.”

I looked at Leo.

“But you didn’t.”

Lorenzo looked at me.

“Because of you.”

I shook my head.

“No.”

He frowned.

“I mean it.”

I smiled.

“Because he wanted to live.”

A quiet moment passed.

Then Lorenzo reached for my hand.

This time, I did not hesitate.

I held it.

Because somewhere along the way, the line between saving and being saved had disappeared.

We had both entered this mansion carrying wounds.

We had both believed our stories ended with loss.

But Leo had changed everything.

A child who was never supposed to survive had brought broken people back to life.

Then Lorenzo’s phone rang.

The sound broke the peaceful moment.

He answered immediately.

“What happened?”

His expression changed.

I knew before he spoke.

Something was wrong.

He ended the call slowly.

“Lorenzo?”

He looked at me.

“The police found my father.”

I waited.

“Where?”

His face became serious.

“He’s coming here.”

My heart tightened.

“To the mansion?”

Lorenzo nodded.

And then he said the words that made the room feel colder.

“He wants to see Leo.”

I looked toward the crib.

Toward the child who had survived everything.

The child everyone had tried to protect.

The child who had brought us together.

And I realized something.

The final battle was not about money.

Not about power.

Not about the Rossi name.

It was about a father protecting his son.

And this time…

Lorenzo Rossi was ready.
