Chapter 4 - The Secret Hidden Inside The Hospital

The trauma room door opened slowly.

A man in a dark suit stepped inside and whispered:

"Clara Jenkins."

Luca Moretti immediately stood up.

Because he recognized the voice.

And Clara realized the person behind the hospital's darkest secret had finally arrived.

For several seconds, nobody moved.

The man standing at the entrance looked ordinary.

That was what made him dangerous.

He wasn't wearing expensive clothes like Luca's security team.

He wasn't carrying himself like a criminal.

He looked like someone who could disappear into a crowd.

A middle-aged man.

Simple black jacket.

Calm eyes.

A small scar near his left eyebrow.

But the reaction around the room told Clara everything.

Everyone knew him.

Arthur Hemlock stepped backward.

Elena's face became completely expressionless.

And Luca...

Luca looked like he was seeing a ghost.

"Thomas."

The man's eyes moved toward Luca.

A faint smile appeared.

"You still remember me."

Clara looked at Luca.

"Who is he?"

Luca didn't answer.

That scared her.

Because Luca had answered every question before.

He had explained everything.

But now he looked lost.

Thomas walked further into the trauma room.

The security guards immediately raised their weapons.

But Luca lifted his hand.

"Don't."

Everyone stopped.

Clara looked confused.

"You know him?"

Luca stared at the man.

"I thought he was dead."

The words made the room colder.

Thomas smiled slightly.

"That's what everyone was supposed to believe."

Clara felt her heartbeat increase.

Dead.

Another person who wasn't supposed to be alive.

Another secret connected to this hospital.

She looked at Arthur.

The surgeon looked like he wanted to escape.

That was when Clara understood.

Arthur wasn't the person controlling everything.

He was just a piece.

Thomas looked at her.

"You must be Clara."

She tightened her grip on the broken badge.

"How does everyone know my name?"

Thomas looked at the badge.

Then at Luca.

"Because your name was the last thing my sister wrote before she disappeared."

Clara froze.

"My sister?"

Thomas reached into his jacket.

He pulled out a small envelope.

Old.

Folded.

Worn from being carried for a long time.

He placed it on the medical table.

Clara didn't move.

"What is that?"

Thomas looked at her.

"Something you were never supposed to see."

Luca stepped forward.

"Where did you get that?"

Thomas looked at him.

"From the person who tried to warn you."

Luca's expression changed.

"Who?"

Thomas didn't answer.

Instead, he looked at Arthur.

"You already know."

Arthur's face became pale.

"No."

It was the first time Clara had heard fear in his voice.

Not anger.

Not arrogance.

Fear.

Thomas walked closer.

"You thought you erased everything."

Arthur shook his head.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Thomas laughed quietly.

"That is the same sentence you used two years ago."

Clara looked at Luca.

"What happened two years ago?"

Luca didn't look away from Thomas.

"My brother died here."

Thomas nodded.

"And everyone believed it was an accident."

Clara stared.

"But it wasn't."

Nobody answered.

She didn't need one.

The silence was enough.

Thomas opened the envelope.

Inside was a photograph.

A hospital hallway.

A nurse standing beside a patient.

Clara looked closer.

Then she froze.

Because the nurse in the photograph looked exactly like her.

Not just similar.

Exactly.

Same face.

Same hair.

Same name badge.

But the date written on the bottom of the photo was impossible.

Twenty years earlier.

Clara slowly stepped back.

"That's not me."

Thomas watched her reaction.

"No."

His voice became quieter.

"But everyone thought it was."

The room went silent.

Clara felt dizzy.

She looked at Luca.

"Do you know what is happening?"

Luca didn't answer immediately.

Then he said:

"I think someone built an entire lie around you."

Clara looked at the photograph again.

She couldn't understand.

She had lived her entire life believing she knew who she was.

Her childhood.

Her family.

Her memories.

Everything.

But now a stranger was holding proof that her name existed decades before she was born.

Thomas reached for another document inside the envelope.

"This is why they watched you."

Clara looked at him.

"Who watched me?"

Thomas looked at Arthur.

The surgeon looked away.

"The people who were afraid you would remember."

Clara felt a chill.

"Remember what?"

Nobody answered.

Then Arthur suddenly moved.

Fast.

He grabbed the folder from the table and threw it toward the medical equipment.

The papers scattered.

Several nurses screamed.

Luca's security team reacted immediately.

But Arthur was already running toward the emergency exit.

"Stop him!"

Luca shouted.

Two guards chased him.

Clara stood frozen.

Because in the middle of the chaos, she saw something fall from Arthur's pocket.

A small device.

A recorder.

She picked it up.

The screen showed one file.

The title made her blood run cold.

"CLARA JENKINS - ORIGINAL IDENTITY."

Her fingers trembled.

She pressed play.

Static filled the room.

Then a woman's voice appeared.

A voice Clara had never heard before.

But somehow...

it felt familiar.

"If you are hearing this, they failed to erase you."

Clara stopped breathing.

The voice continued.

"Clara, you need to know the truth about the night you were brought to this hospital."

Her eyes widened.

"I wasn't born here."

Nobody spoke.

The recording continued.

"I was the witness."

The room became silent.

Luca looked at Elena.

Elena looked away.

Like she already knew.

The woman's voice became weaker.

"They will tell you that your parents abandoned you."

A pause.

"They will tell you that your memories are wrong."

Another pause.

"But the truth is..."

The recording suddenly distorted.

Everyone looked at the device.

The voice returned.

Clearer.

More urgent.

"The person who raised you was the same person who ordered my disappearance."

Clara's hand covered her mouth.

The recording ended.

Silence.

Nobody moved.

Then Luca slowly looked toward Elena.

"Who raised her?"

Elena didn't answer.

Thomas looked at Clara.

And for the first time, he looked sorry.

Not afraid.

Sorry.

Clara turned toward him.

"Tell me."

Thomas stayed silent.

"Tell me who my family is."

The emergency room doors suddenly slammed open.

Everyone turned.

A woman stood outside.

Older.

Tired.

Holding a photograph.

Clara looked at her.

The woman looked back.

Then whispered:

"Clara..."

Her voice broke.

"I thought I would never see my daughter again."

Clara couldn't move.

May you like

Because she had spent her entire life believing her mother was dead.

And the woman standing in front of her was holding the proof that she wasn't.
