Chapter 3 - The Woman Who Knew Too Much

The emergency room door opened slowly.

A woman in a black coat stepped inside and whispered:

"Where is Clara Jenkins?"

Luca Moretti stared at her.

Because he knew that voice.

And Clara realized the person everyone feared was not standing outside the room.

She was already inside.

The woman walked through the trauma bay like she belonged there.

Nobody stopped her.

Nobody questioned her.

That was the first thing Clara noticed.

The second thing she noticed was Arthur Hemlock's face.

The chief surgeon was no longer angry.

No longer arrogant.

He looked afraid.

The woman removed her sunglasses and looked around the room.

She was probably in her late forties.

Elegant.

Calm.

Controlled.

Her dark hair was pulled back neatly, and she wore a simple black coat that looked expensive without trying to prove it.

She didn't look like someone who worked in a hospital.

She looked like someone who gave orders.

Luca watched her carefully.

"Elena."

The woman looked at him.

"You're awake."

Her voice was quiet.

Almost disappointed.

Clara looked between them.

"You know her?"

Luca didn't answer immediately.

That worried Clara more than anything.

Because Luca Moretti seemed like the kind of man who always had an answer.

But now...

He was thinking.

Elena walked closer to the bed.

"You were not supposed to be here this long."

Luca's expression hardened.

"Neither was Clara."

The woman looked at Clara.

For a moment, Clara felt like she was being examined.

Not like a nurse.

Like evidence.

"You're the one who found the badge."

Clara's heart skipped.

"How do you know about that?"

Elena ignored the question.

Instead, she looked at Arthur.

"You failed."

The room became silent.

Arthur swallowed.

"I handled it."

"No."

Elena's voice remained calm.

"You made it worse."

Clara felt a strange pressure building inside her chest.

She didn't understand what was happening.

But she understood one thing.

Everyone in that room knew something she didn't.

And somehow, she was the center of it.

Luca noticed her confusion.

"Clara, listen carefully."

She looked at him.

"Three days ago, someone inside this hospital tried to erase information about a patient."

He pointed at himself.

"Me."

Clara frowned.

"Why?"

"Because I discovered someone was selling medical records."

Her eyes widened.

"Patient information?"

Luca nodded.

"But not normal records."

He looked at Arthur.

"Records of people who were supposed to disappear."

A cold feeling moved through Clara.

"What does that mean?"

Nobody answered.

Because nobody wanted to.

Luca continued.

"People with money. People with power. People who had enemies."

Clara looked at the hospital bed.

At the blood.

At the machines.

At the people around her.

This was no longer just a violent patient.

This was something bigger.

Arthur stepped forward.

"You are making accusations without proof."

Luca looked at him.

"Funny."

A small smile appeared on his face.

"That's exactly what someone says when they're afraid the proof exists."

Arthur's jaw tightened.

Then he looked at Clara.

"This is what happens when you get involved in things you don't understand."

The words were meant to scare her.

And normally, they would have worked.

But something had changed.

Clara had spent years being afraid of people like Arthur.

Now she was starting to realize something.

Fear was the reason people like him continued.

Because everyone was too scared to speak.

She looked directly at him.

"You knew about the badge."

Arthur's expression shifted.

Only slightly.

But enough.

Clara noticed.

"You knew it was there."

The room went silent.

Arthur looked away.

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Then why did you look scared when Luca saw it?"

No one moved.

Even Luca looked surprised.

Not because of the question.

Because Clara had asked it.

Arthur stepped closer.

"Be careful."

His voice became colder.

"You have no idea who you're challenging."

Clara felt the old fear return.

But this time, she didn't step back.

"Maybe I don't."

She looked at him.

"But I know what I saw."

For the first time, Arthur had nothing to say.

Luca watched Clara carefully.

There was something different about her now.

The shy nurse who had lowered her eyes earlier was still there.

But she was no longer silent.

Elena walked toward the medical counter.

She picked up a small folder.

Clara immediately recognized it.

Her own employee file.

"Why do you have that?"

Elena opened it.

"Because someone has been watching you."

Clara froze.

"What?"

Elena turned the pages.

"Your schedule."

"Your home address."

"Your work history."

Clara felt her stomach tighten.

"Why would anyone watch me?"

Luca looked away.

Like he already knew the answer.

Elena closed the folder.

"Because you were never supposed to survive that night."

Clara stared at her.

"What night?"

Nobody answered.

The question stayed in the air.

Then Luca slowly spoke.

"The night my brother died."

Clara looked at him.

"I don't understand."

Luca's eyes became darker.

"My brother was a patient in this hospital two years ago."

The room became quiet.

"He came here alive."

Clara listened carefully.

"Then someone changed his records."

Luca paused.

"And he left this hospital dead."

A chill moved through Clara.

"What does that have to do with me?"

Luca looked at the badge.

"The person who exposed the truth before disappearing left only one clue."

He handed the broken badge back to her.

"Your name."

Clara looked down at it.

Her fingers trembled.

"But I wasn't even involved."

"I know."

Luca's voice softened.

"That's why you're important."

Before Clara could ask another question, the lights flickered again.

Everyone stopped.

This time, the power didn't go out.

Something else happened.

The security monitors turned on.

Every screen in the emergency room showed the same image.

A hallway camera.

A person walking through the hospital.

Clara looked at the screen.

She couldn't see the face.

Only the silhouette.

But Luca recognized the person immediately.

His expression changed.

"No."

Elena looked at him.

"Who is it?"

Luca didn't answer.

The figure on the monitor stopped outside the trauma room.

Then slowly turned toward the camera.

The face became visible.

Clara watched Luca's reaction.

Because the powerful man who had faced criminals, violence, and death without fear...

looked terrified.

The person on the screen was holding something.

A photograph.

A photograph of Clara.

Then the hospital speakers suddenly turned on.

A distorted voice echoed through the emergency room.

"Clara Jenkins."

Everyone froze.

The voice continued.

"You should have stayed quiet."

The trauma room door handle moved.

Slowly.

Someone was opening it from the outside.

May you like

And Luca whispered:

"That person is the reason your life was destroyed..."
