Chapter 2 - The Message Hidden Inside The Bracelet

The first thing I noticed was the silence.

Not the peaceful kind.

The kind of silence that made every breath feel dangerous.

I sat in the unfamiliar room, staring at the diamond bracelet placed on the wooden table in front of me.

My hands were still tied.

My mind was still trying to understand how I went from standing outside the Drake Hotel to waking up in a place I had never seen before.

But one thought kept repeating inside my head.

Adrian.

Someone had used his name.

Someone knew something about him.

And somehow, I was the person caught in the middle.

The stranger standing near the window remained hidden in the darkness.

I could only see the outline of his body.

Tall.

Still.

Watching me.

"Who are you?" I asked again.

My voice sounded weaker than I wanted.

The person didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he walked toward the table.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Like he knew exactly how frightened I was.

He picked up the bracelet.

"You wore this every day for three years."

I stared at him.

"How do you know that?"

He turned the bracelet over.

"Because I was the person who put the message inside it."

My heart stopped.

"What message?"

The man looked at me.

"The one Adrian never wanted you to find."

A cold feeling moved through my body.

I remembered the bracelet.

Adrian gave it to me on our anniversary.

He told me it belonged to his mother.

A family treasure.

Something priceless.

I remembered smiling when he placed it around my wrist.

I remembered believing it was the most romantic thing anyone had ever done for me.

Now I wondered if it had always been something else.

A secret.

A warning.

A trap.

"What did you put inside it?"

The man opened the hidden compartment.

A tiny piece of paper was folded inside.

Almost impossible to notice.

He placed it in front of me.

I leaned closer.

There were only a few words written.

Three words.

But they changed everything.

"Trust Isabella."

I looked up.

"What does that mean?"

The stranger remained silent.

I felt anger rising.

"Why is my name written there?"

He stepped closer.

"Because someone knew you would eventually discover the truth."

"What truth?"

The man looked toward the door.

For the first time, he seemed nervous.

"Your husband's father didn't die in an accident."

The room suddenly felt colder.

I shook my head.

"No."

I wanted to believe him.

I needed to believe him.

Because if Adrian had lied about something that big, then everything I knew about my marriage was built on something false.

"You don't know what you're talking about."

The man gave a small bitter smile.

"That's exactly what Adrian wanted everyone to believe."

I looked at the bracelet again.

The hidden message.

My name.

Adrian's secret.

Everything felt connected.

But I still couldn't understand one thing.

"If you know all this, why did you bring me here?"

The stranger looked away.

"Because someone was following you before you reached home."

My breathing stopped.

"What?"

"After Adrian left you outside the hotel, you weren't alone."

I remembered walking through the rain.

The empty streets.

The feeling that someone was watching me.

I thought it was fear.

Maybe it wasn't.

The man continued.

"There was a black sedan behind you."

My fingers tightened.

"Why didn't you help me?"

His expression changed.

For a moment, I saw guilt.

"Because I was too late."

The words stayed in the air.

Too late.

I looked around the room.

"Where are we?"

He didn't answer.

Instead, he walked to the door.

"You need to leave before they find this place."

"They?"

He looked back at me.

"The people who made Adrian believe you were his enemy."

I froze.

"Adrian thinks I'm his enemy?"

The man didn't respond.

But his silence answered enough.

For five years, I had believed I was the only person Adrian trusted.

Now I realized there was an entire world around him that I knew nothing about.

A world of secrets.

Enemies.

And lies.

The man returned and untied my hands.

"You need to understand something about your husband."

I rubbed my wrists.

"What?"

"He didn't leave you because he stopped loving you."

I looked at him.

"Then why?"

The stranger opened the door slightly.

"Because he was trying to protect you."

I almost laughed.

"Protect me?"

I stood up.

"He left me alone in the middle of the night."

"I know."

"He watched me walk away."

"I know."

"He didn't even call."

The man's eyes became serious.

"Because if he called you, they would know he cared."

I stopped.

Those words hit differently.

Because deep down, I knew Adrian.

I knew his patterns.

His silence.

His distance.

The way he pushed people away when he thought danger was coming.

But I also knew something else.

Adrian never abandoned anyone.

Not unless he believed he had no choice.

Before I could ask another question, a phone vibrated.

The stranger froze.

Not his phone.

Mine.

I looked down.

My phone was sitting on the table.

The screen was cracked.

But it was working.

Impossible.

I had thought it was dead.

A notification appeared.

One message.

From Adrian.

My heart jumped.

The stranger immediately reached for the phone.

"No."

I pulled it away.

"It's from my husband."

His expression changed.

"Don't open it."

"Why?"

"Because if Adrian sent that message..."

He stopped.

"What?"

The man stared at the screen.

"Because Adrian doesn't text people when he thinks their phones are safe."

I looked down.

The message was only four words.

But those four words made my blood run cold.

"Don't trust the man."

I looked at the stranger.

Then back at the phone.

A second message appeared.

This time, it came from an unknown number.

The stranger saw it.

And his face changed completely.

"What?"

He whispered.

"No..."

I held the phone tighter.

"What does it say?"

He didn't answer.

He just stared at the screen.

Because beneath the message was a name.

A name that should have been impossible.

A name connected to Adrian's past.

A name everyone believed was dead.

The door behind us suddenly unlocked.

Someone was outside.

The stranger stepped back.

His face lost all color.

Then a voice came from the hallway.

"Isabella..."

I recognized that voice.

May you like

It was the last voice I expected to hear.

Because the person standing outside the door was the one person Adrian had buried years ago.
