Chapter 1 - The Night He Left Me Behind

A woman in a silver dress fell to her knees beside a black SUV, crying: "Please don't leave me here!" When mafia boss Adrian Vale looked back, he noticed the broken diamond bracelet she had dropped on the street. Inside the bracelet was a hidden engraving: "For the truth you never knew." Adrian suddenly realized this wasn't just another argument.
The rain hit the pavement outside the Drake Hotel like thousands of tiny warnings.
I remembered every second of that night.
The charity gala had been designed to make people believe we lived a perfect life.
The world saw Adrian Vale as a powerful businessman. A man who donated millions, shook hands with politicians, and smiled for cameras.
But I knew the man behind the reputation.
I knew the man who rarely slept.
The man who checked every door twice.
The man who believed trusting people was the fastest way to lose everything.
And for the first time in our marriage, I wondered if he had stopped trusting me too.
My name was Isabella Moretti.
For five years, I had been Adrian’s wife.
I had stood beside him through threats, rumors, and enemies who wanted his empire to collapse.
But that night, inside the grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel, everything changed.
It started with a conversation I was never supposed to hear.
I had walked away from the crowd after noticing Adrian speaking with one of his oldest associates, Marcus.
They were standing near the private balcony.
I wasn't trying to listen.
But then I heard my name.
"Isabella knows too much," Marcus whispered.
My heart stopped.
Adrian looked at him coldly.
"Be careful with your words."
Marcus leaned closer.
"Then tell me why she has been asking questions about your father’s disappearance?"
I froze.
My husband had always told me his father died in an accident.
A painful memory.
A closed chapter.
But suddenly, I realized it wasn't closed.
Not completely.
I stepped backward before they noticed me.
When Adrian found me minutes later, he immediately knew something was wrong.
"What did you hear?"
His voice wasn't angry.
That almost scared me more.
"I heard enough."
The expression on his face changed.
Not fear.
Not guilt.
Something worse.
A warning.
"Isabella, stay away from things you don't understand."
I stared at him.
"After five years together, you still think I’m a stranger?"
He didn't answer.
That silence hurt more than any accusation.
The argument grew louder.
People inside the ballroom started watching.
The powerful couple everyone admired was finally breaking apart in public.
"I thought I was your partner," I said.
"You were."
"Were?"
Adrian looked away.
And that was the moment I knew something was hidden from me.
Outside the hotel, under the cold November rain, I walked toward the street.
I expected him to stop me.
I expected him to follow.
But he didn't.
Instead, Adrian opened the door of his black SUV.
"Isabella."
I turned around.
For one second, I saw regret in his eyes.
Then it disappeared.
"Go home."
I laughed softly.
"You're really saying that?"
He didn't respond.
I stepped closer.
"After everything we've been through?"
His jaw tightened.
"Tonight, I need you away from me."
Those words broke something inside me.
The car door closed.
The engine started.
I reached for the window.
"Adrian, please."
But he looked forward.
Not at me.
Not anymore.
The SUV moved away.
I stood there alone.
The woman everyone thought had everything.
The wife of the most feared man in the city.
Standing on a wet street.
Abandoned.
I walked three blocks before realizing my phone was dead.
I couldn't call anyone.
I couldn't reach anyone.
And I refused to go back to the hotel.
Not after what happened.
I decided to walk home.
That was the last decision I made before everything went dark.
The next thing I remembered was a sound.
A phone ringing.
Not mine.
Someone else's.
When I opened my eyes, I wasn't on the street anymore.
I was somewhere else.
Somewhere unfamiliar.
But I couldn't see where.
My wrists were tied.
My dress was soaked.
And someone was standing behind me.
"Finally awake."
The voice was calm.
Too calm.
I tried to move.
"Who are you?"
The person didn't answer.
Instead, they placed something on the table in front of me.
My broken diamond bracelet.
The one I lost outside the hotel.
But it wasn't broken anymore.
Someone had opened it.
Someone had found the message hidden inside.
The stranger whispered:
"Your husband has been searching for the wrong enemy."
I stared at the bracelet.
Because beneath the hidden engraving was another message.
A message I had never seen before.
May you like
And it had Adrian's name on it...
