Chapter 6 - The Brother Who Carried The Truth

The man standing in the doorway whispered: "I waited twenty years for you to discover what they did to us."
Dante Moretti stared at him.
The entire room disappeared.
The voices.
The movement.
The fear.
Everything faded.
Because standing in front of him was not a stranger.
Not an enemy.
Not a threat.
It was someone who carried the same blood.
The man looked older than Dante expected.
His face had scars.
His hair was darker at the roots but touched with gray.
His eyes were tired.
But Dante recognized something immediately.
The eyes.
The same eyes he saw every morning when he looked in the mirror.
Maria covered her mouth.
Her entire body trembled.
She moved forward slowly.
The man looked at her.
And for the first time in decades, mother and son stood in the same room again.
Maria touched his face.
Her hands moved desperately.
Elena watched.
Then tears appeared in her eyes.
"She said..."
Elena struggled to continue.
"She said she never stopped looking for you."
The man closed his eyes.
A single tear moved down his face.
"I know."
His voice was quiet.
"Because I never stopped watching over her."
Dante stood still.
Watching a reunion he never knew existed.
Watching a family piece itself back together.
But inside him was one question.
One question louder than everything else.
"Are you Matteo?"
The man looked at him.
For a moment, neither brother spoke.
Then he nodded.
"Yes."
Dante felt his chest tighten.
A person who had been erased from history was standing in front of him.
His brother.
The first heir.
The son his father removed.
"Why didn't you come back?"
Matteo looked around the room.
At the documents.
At the family records.
At the people who had hidden the truth.
"Because I knew what would happen if I returned too soon."
Dante frowned.
"What?"
Matteo looked directly at him.
"Your father didn't just erase me."
He paused.
"He erased anyone who tried to expose him."
Dante looked at Vincent.
The older man lowered his head.
Because he knew.
Matteo continued.
"When I discovered what our grandfather built, I thought my father was the problem."
He gave a bitter smile.
"I was wrong."
The room became silent.
Dante stepped closer.
"Then tell me."
Matteo looked at him.
"Tell me everything."
For years, Dante had demanded answers from people.
Tonight was different.
Tonight he was asking.
Matteo walked toward the table.
He picked up the old family record.
"This family was never built on loyalty."
He opened the pages.
"It was built on fear."
He pointed at the names.
"Our grandfather believed fear was the only thing that could keep power."
Dante listened.
"He created enemies inside and outside the family."
"He forced people to choose between obedience and survival."
"Your father inherited that system."
Matteo looked at Maria.
"And she was the first person who tried to break it."
Dante looked at his mother.
Maria lowered her eyes.
Matteo continued.
"When I found proof, I wanted to expose everything."
"Your father helped me at first."
Dante froze.
"Your father?"
Matteo nodded.
"He knew our family was rotten."
The room went quiet.
"Then why did he stop you?"
Matteo looked down.
"Because someone convinced him there was no other way."
Dante narrowed his eyes.
"Who?"
Matteo didn't answer immediately.
That hesitation told Dante everything.
"Who?"
Matteo looked toward the door.
"Someone who is still alive."
A cold silence filled the room.
Dante felt anger rise.
Another hidden person.
Another secret.
Another name.
But before he could ask, Vincent spoke.
"Matteo."
Everyone looked at him.
Vincent's expression was serious.
"You know we cannot hide this anymore."
Matteo nodded.
"I know."
Dante looked between them.
"What are you talking about?"
Matteo reached into his coat.
He removed a small black drive.
The same type of device Dante had found hidden in his mother's bracelet.
He placed it on the table.
"Everything is inside."
Dante stared at it.
"What is it?"
"The evidence."
"Evidence of what?"
Matteo looked at him.
"The reason your father changed."
Dante said nothing.
Matteo continued.
"The reason your mother lost her voice."
"The reason I disappeared."
"The reason you became the man you are today."
The words hurt.
Because Dante knew there was truth behind them.
He had always believed his coldness was his choice.
His father's teachings.
His own decisions.
But what if someone had built that personality inside him?
What if the man he became was exactly what someone wanted?
Dante picked up the drive.
"Who changed my father?"
Matteo looked at him.
"The person who controlled him."
Dante waited.
"Your uncle."
The room froze.
Dante remembered the erased family record.
The missing name.
The old symbol.
Another person from the past.
"Marco Moretti."
Matteo nodded.
"He never disappeared."
Dante looked shocked.
"But everyone said..."
"Everyone believed what they were told."
Matteo looked at the family portrait on the wall.
"Marco was the real architect behind everything."
Dante's expression hardened.
"Where is he?"
Nobody answered.
Then Maria suddenly grabbed Dante's arm.
Her hands moved quickly.
Fear.
Panic.
Elena translated.
"She said Marco knows you found the truth."
Dante looked at her.
"How?"
Maria pointed toward the security cameras.
Everyone turned.
The monitors above the wall changed.
The restaurant cameras went black.
One by one.
Then a single image appeared.
A man sitting inside a dark room.
Watching them.
Dante stared.
Because he recognized the face.
Older.
Different.
But unmistakable.
Marco Moretti.
His uncle.
The man everyone claimed disappeared.
The man who controlled everything from the shadows.
A message appeared beneath the video.
"Congratulations, Dante."
Everyone froze.
Another line appeared.
"You finally found the family secret."
Dante stepped closer to the screen.
Then the final message appeared.
"But you still don't know who helped me hide it."
The screen went black.
Dante slowly turned around.
Because suddenly he understood.
Marco was not alone.
Someone inside this room had been working for him.
Someone who knew every step Dante would take.
Someone who had guided him directly to the truth.
His phone vibrated.
One final message appeared.
A name.
Dante looked at the screen.
May you like
And his face changed.
Because the person who had been helping Marco was someone he had trusted his entire life.
