Chapter 3 - The Name Hidden In The Family Records

The old man placed the family record on the table and whispered: "Your father erased this name because he knew you would search for the truth one day."

Dante Moretti stared at the document.

His own name was written across the top.

But underneath it was another name.

A name he had never seen before.

A name that changed everything he thought he knew about his family.

The man standing in the doorway stepped into the room slowly.

Dante recognized him immediately.

Not because they had met before.

Because he had seen his face in the photograph.

The same photograph hidden inside the envelope.

The same photograph that showed his father, his mother, and the mysterious woman from twenty years ago.

Dante’s hand tightened around the paper.

"Who are you?"

The man looked at Maria.

For a moment, his expression softened.

Like he was seeing someone he had lost long ago.

"My name is Adrian Vale."

The room became silent.

Dante looked at Luca.

Then at his mother.

Nobody reacted like this was a stranger.

They reacted like this was a ghost.

"You know him."

It was not a question.

Maria lowered her eyes.

That answer was enough.

Dante had spent his entire life learning how to read people.

A pause.

A glance.

A movement.

Those things told him more than words.

And right now, everyone in the room was hiding something.

Dante placed the family record on the table.

"Explain."

Adrian looked at the document.

Then at Dante.

"Your father never wanted you to see this."

Dante stepped closer.

"My father is dead."

Adrian nodded.

"And that is why you are finally able to find the truth."

Those words angered Dante.

Because they sounded like everyone had been waiting.

Waiting for his father to disappear.

Waiting for Dante to become strong enough.

Waiting for him to discover the secrets buried beneath his own family.

"You all knew."

Nobody answered.

Dante looked at Maria.

His mother slowly reached for his hand.

She began signing.

Elena watched carefully.

Then translated.

"She said she tried to tell you."

Dante looked away.

The words hurt.

Because they were true.

His mother had tried.

The problem was that he never understood.

He had spent years believing her silence was acceptance.

But it was actually a warning.

Adrian moved toward the table.

"The night you were born changed your father's plans."

Dante looked at him.

"What does that mean?"

Adrian touched the document.

"This record was created before your birth."

He turned the page.

Dante saw old handwriting.

His father's handwriting.

A cold feeling moved through him.

The first line read:

"Successor: Dante Moretti."

The second line was different.

"Original heir: Adrian Moretti."

Dante froze.

The room seemed to disappear.

He looked up slowly.

"What?"

Adrian did not look away.

"Your father had another son."

Nobody spoke.

Even the guards looked shocked.

Dante stared at him.

"No."

The word came out quietly.

Then louder.

"No."

His father had only ever told him about one family.

One bloodline.

One future.

"You are lying."

Adrian shook his head.

"I wish I was."

Dante grabbed the document.

His eyes moved across the page.

The dates.

The signatures.

The official seals.

Everything was real.

His father had another child.

Another heir.

Another secret.

Maria touched Dante’s arm.

Her hands moved quickly.

Elena translated.

"She said your father forced everyone to forget him."

Dante looked at Adrian.

"Why?"

Adrian’s face changed.

Pain replaced anger.

"Because I discovered what your father had done."

The room became colder.

Dante waited.

Adrian continued.

"Your father built his empire by destroying people who trusted him."

Dante said nothing.

"Partners."

"Friends."

"Family."

Each word landed harder.

"He created enemies and then convinced everyone those enemies were the problem."

Dante looked at Luca.

The old man lowered his head.

Because he knew it was true.

Dante had spent years protecting the same empire that had destroyed his own family.

But there was still one question.

"If you were his son..."

He looked at Adrian.

"Why did he choose me?"

Adrian stared at him.

"Because you were easier to control."

Nobody moved.

Dante’s expression changed.

Not anger.

Something worse.

Understanding.

His father had not chosen him because he trusted him.

He chose him because he could shape him.

Because a child raised with the right beliefs could become the perfect weapon.

Dante remembered every lesson his father taught him.

Never forgive betrayal.

Never question family.

Never show weakness.

Now every lesson sounded different.

Elena looked at Maria.

The elderly woman was crying silently.

She signed something slowly.

Elena’s face changed.

"What?"

Dante looked at her.

"What did she say?"

Elena hesitated.

"She said your father knew she would try to tell you."

Dante waited.

"And?"

Elena looked at Maria.

Then back at Dante.

"She said he left one final message."

Dante felt his heartbeat slow.

"Where?"

Maria pointed toward the family record.

Adrian opened the last page.

A small envelope was attached behind it.

Nobody had noticed it before.

Dante carefully removed it.

Inside was a single letter.

No signature.

No date.

Only one sentence.

"If Dante finds this, it means I failed to erase the past."

Dante stared.

His father's words.

Even after death, the man was still controlling the conversation.

He continued reading.

"If you are reading this, do not trust the people who say they protected you."

Dante’s eyes narrowed.

The next line was worse.

"They were the ones who took your brother from you."

The room went completely silent.

Dante looked at Adrian.

Then at Maria.

Then at Luca.

Someone had taken his brother.

Someone had stolen an entire part of his life.

And everyone in this room knew.

"Who took him?"

Nobody answered.

Dante’s voice became dangerous.

"Who took him?"

Maria suddenly looked toward the hallway.

Her face changed.

Fear.

Real fear.

Dante followed her eyes.

The lights outside the private room flickered.

One of his guards touched his earpiece.

Then immediately stepped back.

"Boss..."

Dante turned.

"What happened?"

The guard looked pale.

"The security system found someone accessing the old family archives."

"Who?"

The guard swallowed.

Then looked at the screen in his hand.

"It says the person using the archive access code is..."

Dante waited.

The guard slowly lifted his eyes.

"...Dante Moretti."

The room went silent.

Because Dante had never entered the archive.

But the system showed his name.

And then another notification appeared.

A live camera feed from the family vault opened on the screen.

Someone was standing inside.

May you like

Holding the original records his father had hidden.

And the person turned toward the camera.
