Chapter 8 - The Brother Who Returned With The Truth

For twenty years, Alessandro Duca had imagined this moment.

Not exactly like this.

Not in the middle of the night.

Not inside the mansion where his entire life had been built on carefully constructed lies.

But somewhere deep inside him, there had always been a small part that wished Marco was still alive.

A part that refused to accept the death.

A part that remembered the brother who used to protect him.

The brother who taught him how to fight.

The brother who told him that power without compassion only created monsters.

And now that man was standing in front of him.

Alive.

Older.

Changed.

But alive.

Alessandro could not speak.

Marco watched him quietly.

For the first time in years, the older brother looked uncertain.

Not like a powerful man.

Not like someone who had escaped death.

Just like a brother standing in front of someone he had abandoned.

“I know what you’re thinking.”

Alessandro’s voice finally came.

“You have no idea.”

Marco looked down.

“You’re right.”

A pause.

“I don’t.”

The honesty made the anger worse.

Alessandro stepped closer.

“You let me believe you were dead.”

Marco said nothing.

“You let me stand at your grave.”

“I know.”

“You let me spend twenty years thinking I was alone.”

Marco’s eyes filled slightly.

“I know.”

“Then explain.”

The mansion became silent.

Only the sound of the rain outside remained.

Marco looked toward the staircase.

“Not here.”

Alessandro followed his eyes.

“Why?”

“Because someone is listening.”

A cold feeling moved through him.

“You’re saying there is someone inside my house?”

Marco looked at him.

“I’m saying there has always been someone inside your house.”

The hidden room beneath the mansion became their meeting place.

The same room where Alessandro had discovered the truth.

The same room where his father’s secrets had been buried.

Now two brothers sat across from each other.

One who had spent twenty years searching.

One who had spent twenty years hiding.

Alessandro placed a photograph on the table.

Elena.

Sophia’s sister.

The woman connected to everything.

“You knew her.”

Marco looked at the picture.

“Yes.”

“How?”

“Because she was the first person who tried to expose our father.”

Alessandro leaned back.

“Tell me everything.”

Marco took a deep breath.

“Twenty years ago, our father was not just hiding an affair.”

“He had a child.”

“Yes.”

“A son.”

Marco nodded.

“His name was Lucas.”

The name entered the room like a new piece of a puzzle.

Alessandro remembered the documents.

The hidden files.

The missing records.

“Where is he?”

Marco looked away.

“That is the question I spent twenty years trying to answer.”

“What happened?”

“Father believed Lucas was a threat.”

“Why?”

“Because Lucas had something.”

“What?”

“The truth.”

Alessandro frowned.

“What truth?”

Marco looked at him.

“The truth about how our family built its empire.”

Silence.

Alessandro understood.

Money.

Power.

Influence.

The Duca family had always appeared untouchable.

But every empire had a foundation.

And sometimes…

The foundation was built on things people wanted forgotten.

“Our father wasn’t afraid of Lucas because he was his son.”

Marco continued.

“He was afraid because Lucas knew what he had done.”

For the next hour, Marco revealed everything.

Things Alessandro wished he never knew.

Their father had spent decades manipulating people.

Buying silence.

Destroying evidence.

Creating enemies and then eliminating them.

But the biggest secret involved Elena.

“She discovered the financial records.”

Marco said.

“She found evidence that our father had destroyed lives to protect the Duca name.”

Alessandro stared.

“And Lucas?”

“Lucas was born into the middle of it.”

Marco looked down.

“He was innocent.”

A pause.

“But our father didn’t see a child.”

“What did he see?”

“A weakness.”

Alessandro closed his eyes.

Because suddenly he understood.

His father had always been afraid of weakness.

And he had spent his entire life destroying anything that represented it.

Even his own family.

“Why did you fake your death?”

Alessandro finally asked.

Marco looked at him.

“Because I discovered the truth too late.”

“About what?”

“About the person helping Father.”

Alessandro became still.

“Who?”

Marco hesitated.

And that hesitation terrified him.

Because Marco was not afraid of many things.

“Say it.”

Marco looked at him.

“Someone you trust.”

The answer angered Alessandro.

“Everyone keeps saying that.”

“Because it’s true.”

“Who?”

Marco looked toward the ceiling.

“Your fiancée.”

Alessandro’s face changed.

“Vivian?”

Marco nodded.

“No.”

A pause.

“Not exactly.”

“What does that mean?”

“Vivian is not the person controlling this.”

Alessandro waited.

“She’s just another person being used.”

That surprised him.

“Then who?”

Marco looked directly at him.

“The person who has been protecting the secret from the beginning.”

A long silence.

Then:

“Your father’s closest friend.”

Alessandro frowned.

“My father’s advisor?”

Marco nodded.

“Victor Hale.”

The name was familiar.

Too familiar.

Victor Hale had worked with the Duca family for thirty years.

He had attended every major event.

Every family meeting.

Every business decision.

He was considered family.

Not by blood.

But by trust.

And now Marco was saying…

He was the enemy.

At that moment, a sound came from above.

A door closing.

Both brothers looked up.

Marco immediately stood.

“Someone is here.”

Alessandro reached for his weapon.

They moved silently upstairs.

The mansion was dark.

Too dark.

The hallway lights had been turned off.

Then Alessandro noticed something.

Emma’s bedroom door.

Open.

His heart stopped.

He moved quickly.

“Emma!”

Inside the room, the bed was empty.

The teddy bear was lying on the floor.

Alessandro’s entire body went cold.

“No.”

Marco entered behind him.

“Who knew she was here?”

Alessandro looked at him.

“Everyone.”

Then he stopped.

Because one person had been missing.

One person had not appeared since Marco returned.

Vivian.

They found her in the east corridor.

Standing beside the broken mirror.

The same place where everything began.

She was holding something.

A small device.

The hidden drive.

Alessandro approached slowly.

“Where is Emma?”

Vivian looked at him.

Her eyes were full of tears.

“I was trying to protect her.”

Marco stepped forward.

“From who?”

Vivian looked at him.

And froze.

Because she recognized him.

“Marco?”

The older brother stared.

“You know me?”

Vivian’s face became pale.

Then Alessandro understood.

She was not surprised because he was alive.

She was surprised because she knew him.

“How?”

Vivian looked between them.

“I…”

Her voice broke.

“I thought you were dead.”

Marco stepped closer.

“Answer the question.”

Vivian looked down.

“I met you before.”

Alessandro felt his chest tighten.

“Before?”

“Years ago.”

“Where?”

Vivian swallowed.

“After the accident.”

Silence.

Marco’s expression changed.

“You knew I survived.”

Vivian nodded.

“I did.”

Alessandro stared at her.

The betrayal hurt differently now.

Not because she had secrets.

Everyone did.

But because she had known about Marco.

And still chose to enter his life.

Still chose to marry him.

“Why?”

Vivian looked at him.

“Because my father forced me.”

“And now?”

She looked toward the empty hallway.

“Now because I know who took Emma.”

Alessandro stepped closer.

“Who?”

Vivian whispered:

“Victor Hale.”

The name echoed.

Marco closed his eyes.

“Of course.”

Alessandro looked at him.

“You knew?”

Marco nodded.

“He was always the shadow behind everything.”

Then Vivian said something worse.

Something that made both brothers freeze.

“Victor didn’t take Emma because of the drive.”

“Then why?”

Vivian’s voice trembled.

“Because Emma is not just connected to your family.”

A pause.

“She is connected to Lucas.”

Alessandro looked at Marco.

“Lucas?”

Vivian nodded.

“Emma’s real father…”

She took a breath.

“…is Lucas Duca.”

The mansion went silent.

Because the truth was no longer hidden.

It was standing in front of them.

A missing son.

A hidden child.

A dead brother who returned.

A family built on lies.

And somewhere outside those walls…

Victor Hale had taken Emma.

The smallest person in this war.

The one person who deserved none of it.

Alessandro looked at Marco.

For the first time in twenty years…

The brothers stood on the same side.

“Where would he take her?”

Marco’s answer was immediate.

“The place where all Duca secrets began.”

Alessandro looked at him.

“Where?”

Marco whispered:

“The old family estate.”

A place abandoned for decades.

A place nobody entered.

A place where their father had hidden his darkest secrets.

And now…

A little girl was trapped inside.
