Chapter 5 - The Truth Hidden Inside the Rossi Mansion

The words echoed through the nursery.
“There is a security breach.”
For a moment, nobody moved.
The peaceful atmosphere that had existed only seconds before disappeared completely.
Leo was still lying in his crib, his tiny fingers wrapped around mine.
But Lorenzo Rossi was no longer just a father standing beside his son.
He was the man everyone feared.
The man who had survived enemies, betrayal, and violence.
The change was immediate.
His shoulders straightened.
His eyes hardened.
The warmth I had seen when he looked at Leo vanished behind the careful mask he wore for the outside world.
"Where?" he asked into the phone.
I watched his expression carefully.
Every second that passed made the tension heavier.
"Who has access?"
A pause.
Then his jaw tightened.
"I want every camera reviewed. Nobody leaves the property."
He ended the call.
I looked at him.
"Is Leo in danger?"
Lorenzo didn't answer immediately.
That silence was enough.
My heart sank.
He walked toward the nursery door and looked outside.
The guards had already started moving.
Footsteps echoed through the mansion.
People who had spent months walking quietly were suddenly moving with purpose.
"Stay here," Lorenzo said.
I frowned.
"What?"
"You heard me."
His voice was firm.
"Stay with Leo."
The command surprised me.
Because the first time he spoke to me like that, there was a gun in his hand.
Now, there was something different.
Trust.
I looked at the baby.
Then back at him.
"You're leaving him with me?"
Lorenzo held my gaze.
"I know what you would do to protect him."
Those words were unexpected.
Coming from him, they meant more than any apology.
Before I could respond, he stepped out.
The door closed.
And suddenly, I was alone with Leo.
But I wasn't alone in the mansion.
I could feel it.
Something had changed.
The Rossi estate, which had always felt like a fortress, now felt like a battlefield.
I picked up Leo carefully.
His eyes opened.
He looked peaceful.
Completely unaware that people outside were searching for someone who might want to hurt him.
"It's okay," I whispered.
I didn't know if I was talking to him or myself.
"You are safe."
But deep inside, I wondered.
Was he really?
For the first time since I arrived at the mansion, I understood why Lorenzo lived the way he did.
Why he trusted nobody.
Why every person who came close to him was investigated.
Because when you have something precious, losing it becomes your greatest fear.
Twenty minutes passed.
Then thirty.
The door opened.
I expected Lorenzo.
Instead, it was Mrs. Bennett.
Her face was pale.
"Elena."
I immediately stood.
"What happened?"
She closed the door behind her.
"Mr. Rossi asked me to bring you downstairs."
I looked at Leo.
"Is he okay?"
"He's fine."
Her voice lowered.
"But there is something you need to know."
The way she said it made me nervous.
"What?"
Mrs. Bennett looked toward the hallway.
Then back at me.
"The person who entered the system wasn't trying to steal money."
I waited.
"They were looking for information."
"What information?"
She hesitated.
"The night Isabella died."
My body went still.
Lorenzo's wife.
Leo's mother.
The car bombing.
The tragedy that had created this broken family.
"What does that have to do with me?"
Mrs. Bennett's expression softened.
"Maybe nothing."
Then she looked at Leo.
"Or maybe everything."
I didn't understand.
But before I could ask more, Lorenzo appeared.
His face was colder than before.
"Leave us."
Mrs. Bennett nodded and walked away.
I looked at him.
"What happened?"
Lorenzo entered the room and closed the door.
"The breach came from inside the mansion."
My stomach tightened.
"Someone who works here?"
He nodded.
"Someone with access."
I looked around.
The staff.
The nurses.
The guards.
Everyone.
"Who?"
"We don't know yet."
His eyes moved toward Leo.
"But we found something else."
"What?"
Lorenzo took out his phone.
He showed me a security image.
It was a person walking through a hallway.
The image was unclear.
But the location was obvious.
The nursery corridor.
"When was this?"
"The night you found Leo."
I looked at the screen.
The person had been there before me.
"Someone was already watching him."
Lorenzo nodded.
"And they weren't surprised when you entered."
I looked at him.
"What are you saying?"
He looked directly at me.
"I'm saying someone may have known you would save him."
The idea felt impossible.
"No."
The word escaped before I could stop it.
"I didn't even know I would do that."
"I know."
His voice softened slightly.
"That's why this doesn't make sense."
I looked down at Leo.
A terrifying thought entered my mind.
"What if someone wanted him to die?"
Lorenzo's expression changed.
Because that was the question he had been avoiding.
For months, everyone had assumed Leo's condition was caused by being premature.
By weakness.
By bad luck.
But what if it wasn't?
"What are you thinking?" I asked.
Lorenzo remained silent.
Then he said,
"The doctors found something strange after Isabella died."
I waited.
"Her car wasn't just attacked."
My heart tightened.
"It was planned."
I stared at him.
"I thought everyone knew that."
"They knew there was an explosion."
His voice became darker.
"They didn't know Isabella wasn't the only target."
I looked at Leo.
"Leo?"
Lorenzo nodded.
"Someone wanted my entire family gone."
The room felt colder.
All this time, everyone had believed the tragedy ended the night Isabella died.
But maybe it had only started.
"Why didn't you tell anyone?"
His expression hardened.
"Because I didn't know who I could trust."
That answer hurt because it was understandable.
He had lost his wife.
His son had almost died.
And someone inside his own world might have caused it.
Anyone could be responsible.
Even someone close.
Then something unexpected happened.
Leo started crying.
Not loudly.
Just a small sound.
Both of us looked down.
Lorenzo immediately reached for him.
But Leo didn't calm.
His eyes moved toward me.
I understood.
I stepped closer.
The moment I touched his hand, his crying stopped.
Lorenzo watched silently.
And I saw something change in him again.
Not jealousy.
Not anger.
Something more painful.
Fear.
"You remind him of safety," he said quietly.
I looked at Leo.
"I think he just knows who stayed."
Lorenzo looked away.
Because maybe that was the thing that hurt most.
So many people had tried to save Leo.
Doctors.
Specialists.
Nurses.
But when the baby needed someone emotionally, everyone had been too afraid.
Everyone except me.
That evening, Lorenzo called a private meeting.
Everyone with authority inside the Rossi mansion gathered in the main room.
Guards.
Staff leaders.
Family members.
Including Victoria.
She stood near the fireplace, watching everything.
Lorenzo stood at the front.
His voice was calm.
But everyone could feel the danger beneath it.
"Someone inside this house has been hiding information."
Nobody spoke.
"Someone knew about my wife’s death."
The room became tense.
"And someone has been watching my son."
Victoria looked surprised.
Only for a second.
But I noticed.
Lorenzo noticed too.
His eyes moved toward her.
"Until I find out who betrayed this family, nobody leaves."
The guards moved immediately.
Then Lorenzo looked at me.
And for the first time, I realized something.
I wasn't just the maid anymore.
I was a witness.
I was connected to the secret that had been buried inside the Rossi mansion.
May you like
A secret someone had killed to protect.
And now that secret was beginning to come back to life.
