Chapter 11 - Selene's Last Secret
Roman moved instantly.
He stepped between Selene and Nora.
“Put the gun down.”
Selene laughed.
“You still think you're in control.”
Roman's men raised their weapons.
“Lower yours,” Roman ordered.
They obeyed.
Selene looked at Nora.
“You ruined everything.”
Nora's voice was steady.
“What did I ruin?”
“My future.”
“You slapped me because of Julian.”
“I slapped you because Julian told me the truth.”
Roman's eyes narrowed.
“What truth?”
Selene looked at him.
“You aren't the father.”
Nora felt her heart drop.
Roman remained still.
Selene continued.
“Six months ago, Nora was taken to a private clinic.”
Nora closed her eyes.
She remembered waking beneath white lights.
A doctor.
A needle.
Someone saying her name.
Then nothing.
Selene smiled.
“Julian arranged the procedure.”
Roman's voice became dangerous.
“What procedure?”
“A fertility procedure.”
Nora stared.
“No.”
Selene nodded.
“Your eggs were collected.”
Roman's face went pale.
“Why?”
“To create an heir.”
Nora shook her head.
“Stop.”
Selene continued.
“The child you're carrying may not be Roman's.”
Roman looked at Nora.
Nora was crying.
“I didn't know.”
“I know.”
Selene lowered the gun slightly.
“That's why they needed your pregnancy hidden.”
Roman asked:
“Who performed the procedure?”
Selene's smile disappeared.
“I don't know.”
Roman's eyes narrowed.
“Lie.”
“I swear.”
Suddenly, a shot rang out.
Selene dropped the gun.
She fell backward.
Roman's men turned toward the window.
A sniper.
Roman grabbed Nora and pulled her down.
“Stay down.”
Selene was bleeding.
Nora crawled toward her.
“Who shot you?”
Selene coughed.
“I was trying to warn you.”
“About what?”
Selene's eyes moved toward Roman.
“The father.”
Roman stared.
Selene whispered:
“It's not Julian.”
Roman's expression changed.
“Then who?”
Selene's lips moved.
One word.
“Calder.”
Roman froze.
“Which one?”
Selene smiled weakly.
“Your brother.”
Roman went completely still.
Nora stared at him.
“You have a brother?”
Roman whispered:
“I don't.”
Selene closed her eyes.
“You do.”
Then the building's alarm began screaming.
Roman's phone vibrated.
A message appeared.
YOUR BROTHER IS WAITING IN THE BASEMENT.
Roman looked at Nora.

Then toward the elevator.
And for the first time that night, fear crossed his face.
