Chapter 10 - The Woman Who Looked Like Nora
Roman spun around.
Nobody stood there.
The hallway was empty.
Nora looked at Elena.
“What did you mean?”
Elena held the newborn closer.
“I don't know how much time we have.”
Roman's men secured the corridor.
“Tell me.”
Elena looked at him.
“Your father has been tracking Nora's pregnancy.”
Roman's expression hardened.
“Why?”
“Because he believes one of the twins carries something.”
“What?”
“A biological marker.”
Roman frowned.
“That sounds insane.”
“It isn't.”
Elena looked at Nora.
“Your mother told you about the inheritance.”
“Yes.”
“She was wrong.”
Nora's face tightened.
“What is the real secret?”
Elena hesitated.
“The Calder family doesn't inherit power through money.”
Roman stared.
“Then through what?”
“Blood.”
Silence.
Elena explained that an old family trust had been designed around biological descendants. Whoever carried the marker could legally control assets hidden for decades.
Roman shook his head.
“My father would kill for that?”
“He already has.”
Nora looked at the baby in Elena's arms.
“Is she mine?”
Elena nodded.
“She is your daughter.”
Nora's eyes filled.
“How?”
“I gave birth to her.”
Nora froze.
Elena smiled sadly.
“She was the first twin.”
Nora touched the baby's cheek.
Roman looked at Elena.
“Then what about Nora's twins?”
Elena looked away.
“I don't know.”
Roman stepped closer.
“You said something about the baby not being mine.”
“I said not all of them.”
Nora felt dizzy.
“What does that mean?”
Elena whispered:
“Your pregnancy records were altered.”
Roman's jaw tightened.
“By whom?”
Elena handed him a file.
He opened it.
The doctor's signature was forged.
The date had been changed.
And beneath the medical notes was a handwritten sentence.
Father: Unknown.
Roman looked at Nora.
She stared back.
“You know who the father is.”
“I thought I did.”
“Who?”
Nora's voice shook.
“You.”
Roman's eyes softened.
“But?”
“I woke up after surgery six months ago with no memory of the night.”
Roman froze.
“What surgery?”
Nora touched her stomach.
“I was told I had been in an accident.”
Celeste suddenly whispered:
“You weren't.”
Everyone turned.
Celeste looked terrified.
“You were drugged.”
Roman's face went cold.
“By whom?”
Celeste looked at Elena.
Elena shook her head.
Then Selene stepped into the doorway.
Everyone froze.
She was holding a gun.
“I can tell you.”
Roman slowly turned.
Selene aimed at Nora.

And then she smiled.
