Chapter 6 - The Woman Behind the Name

The lights went out.

Again.

But this time, nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone in the room understood one thing.

This was not an accident.

Someone was watching.

Luca Moretti stood in the darkness, holding the photograph of Emma in one hand and his phone in the other.

The message remained on the screen.

You finally found her. Now find the woman who gave birth to the monster.

His eyes moved slowly toward Mia.

The woman who had worked in his mansion.

The woman who had washed his clothes.

The woman who had spent years hiding a child.

The woman who was apparently not who she claimed to be.

"Your real name."

Luca's voice cut through the silence.

Mia didn't answer.

"Tell me."

She looked at Emma.

The little girl was holding her stuffed rabbit, unaware that every adult around her was carrying secrets that could destroy everything.

Mia swallowed.

"My name is Isabella Romano."

The name landed heavily.

Matteo immediately looked at her.

"No."

Mia looked at him.

"You knew."

"I thought you were gone."

Luca turned.

"What does that mean?"

Matteo looked at him.

And for the first time since returning from the dead, he looked afraid.

"Isabella Romano wasn't just a maid."

Luca waited.

Matteo continued.

"She was born into one of the most dangerous families in Europe."

Mia shook her head.

"That was my past."

"Your past created this."

Her expression hardened.

"No. People like us created this."

Luca looked between them.

He hated this.

He hated being the only person who didn't understand.

"What family?"

Nobody answered.

Luca's patience disappeared.

"What family?"

Mia finally spoke.

"The Romano family."

Silence.

Luca knew that name.

Everyone in his world knew that name.

A family connected to money, politics, and criminal networks.

A family that disappeared after a violent internal war.

A family that left behind rumors.

But never proof.

"You were one of them."

Mia nodded.

"Yes."

"Then why were you working here?"

Her eyes lowered.

"Because I was hiding."

"From who?"

Mia looked toward the window.

"From my own family."

Luca studied her.

"Why?"

Mia looked at Emma.

"Because they wanted my daughter."

The room became silent.

Luca glanced at the little girl.

Emma.

The same child who had stood on a stool washing his shirt.

The same child someone was willing to break into a mansion to find.

"Why?"

Mia's eyes filled with pain.

"Because Emma is the last connection to a secret they tried to erase."

Matteo stepped forward.

"Luca."

But Luca raised his hand.

"No."

He looked at Mia.

"She deserves to know."

Mia looked down.

"Three years ago, before Matteo disappeared..."

She stopped.

Her voice became smaller.

"He found out someone was planning a takeover."

Luca looked at Matteo.

"You knew?"

Matteo nodded.

"Yes."

"And you didn't tell me?"

"I was trying to protect you."

Luca laughed bitterly.

"Everyone keeps saying that."

Matteo looked away.

"Because it was true."

"No."

Luca stepped closer.

"You all decided I couldn't handle the truth."

Nobody responded.

Because nobody could deny it.

Mia continued.

"The people behind it wanted control of everything."

"Everything?"

"Your organization."

She looked at Matteo.

"My family."

Then at Luca.

"Your empire."

Luca's expression changed.

"Who?"

Mia hesitated.

That hesitation told him enough.

Someone powerful.

Someone close.

"Who started this?"

Before she could answer, a loud crash came from downstairs.

Everyone froze.

Luca immediately turned.

"Stay here."

Mia grabbed Emma.

Matteo reached for a weapon.

"I’m coming."

Luca looked at him.

For a moment, neither brother spoke.

Three years of anger.

Three years of betrayal.

Three years of unanswered questions.

But now wasn't the time.

"Fine."

They moved together.

Down the stairs.

The mansion was silent.

Too silent.

The kind of silence that came before violence.

Luca signaled his guards.

Nothing.

No response.

His security team was gone.

Not dead.

Gone.

That was worse.

Someone had removed them quietly.

They reached the entrance hall.

The front door was open.

Rain blew inside.

On the floor was a small package.

No sender.

No address.

Just Luca's name.

Matteo looked at it.

"Don't touch it."

Luca ignored him.

He picked it up.

Inside was an old envelope.

The paper was damaged.

Aged.

Like it had been hidden for years.

Inside was a photograph.

Luca looked at it.

And stopped breathing.

It was a photo of him.

Matteo.

And a woman.

A woman Luca recognized.

But not because he knew her.

Because he had seen her before.

In the background of every major event connected to the past three years.

The woman everyone thought was dead.

His brother's former fiancée.

The woman whose disappearance started the entire chain of events.

Matteo saw the photo.

His face changed.

"No."

Luca looked at him.

"You know her."

Matteo didn't answer.

"You know her."

Matteo closed his eyes.

"She was supposed to be gone."

Luca looked at the photograph again.

Then noticed something written on the back.

A date.

Three years ago.

The night Matteo died.

And underneath it, one sentence.

The child survived because someone betrayed Luca.

Luca's fingers tightened around the paper.

"Someone betrayed me."

Nobody spoke.

Then his phone vibrated.

A new message.

Unknown number.

This time, there was a video.

Luca opened it.

The screen showed the mansion.

The hallway.

The laundry room.

From earlier that day.

But the camera angle was impossible.

Because it was inside his house.

Watching Emma.

The video continued.

A figure appeared behind the camera.

And a voice whispered:

"Do you want to know who betrayed you?"

Luca stared.

The voice continued.

"Ask the person standing beside you."

Slowly...

Luca turned.

Because someone was standing behind him.

Someone who had been there the entire time.

May you like

Someone he trusted.

And that person whispered his name.
