Chapter 9 - The Child of Two Worlds

The warehouse became silent.

Not the normal silence.

Not the silence before a fight.

A heavier silence.

The kind that came when a truth finally appeared and nobody knew what to do with it.

Luca Moretti stared at Mia.

At Isabella Romano.

At the woman who had just changed everything he believed about his own life.

"The other child."

His voice was low.

"Me?"

Mia nodded slowly.

Luca shook his head.

"No."

He stepped back.

"That doesn't make sense."

Matteo watched him carefully.

"Luca."

"No."

Luca looked at him.

"You knew?"

Matteo didn't answer.

That was enough.

"You knew."

Matteo looked away.

The betrayal hurt more than the truth.

Because the one person Luca had spent his entire life trusting had known the answer.

And still chose silence.

"How long?"

Matteo's voice was quiet.

"Since before I disappeared."

Luca laughed once.

A broken sound.

"Everyone knew."

Nobody spoke.

"My brother."

He looked at Matteo.

"My employee."

He looked at Mia.

"My enemy."

His eyes moved toward Adrian.

"Everyone knew who I was except me."

Adrian smiled slightly.

"Now you understand."

Luca turned toward him.

"You wanted me to find this."

"Yes."

"Why?"

Adrian walked closer.

"Because you were never supposed to be the head of the Moretti empire."

Luca's eyes narrowed.

"Careful."

Adrian ignored the warning.

"Your father chose you because he thought you were easier to control."

The words hit.

"My father?"

"Yes."

Luca remembered.

The cold conversations.

The hidden meetings.

The way his father always said he needed to become stronger.

But never why.

"He knew."

Adrian nodded.

"Your father knew exactly who you were."

Luca looked at Mia.

"And you?"

She looked ashamed.

"I found out when you were younger."

"You knew?"

"I didn't know everything."

"But you knew enough."

Mia couldn't argue.

Luca turned away.

For a moment, he wasn't the feared businessman.

He was just a man realizing his entire identity had been built on a lie.

A child raised inside one family.

Born from another.

Connected to two worlds that wanted to own him.

"Why didn't anyone tell me?"

Mia whispered:

"Because your father believed the truth would destroy you."

Luca looked at her.

"No."

His voice hardened.

"He was afraid I would destroy him."

Nobody answered.

Because maybe that was the truth.

Adrian watched him.

"You were always different from the rest of them."

Luca looked at him.

"What does that mean?"

"Your father wanted a weapon."

A pause.

"But your mother wanted a son."

Luca froze.

"My mother?"

Mia's expression changed.

She had avoided this part.

Luca noticed.

"Who was my mother?"

The question stayed in the air.

Matteo looked at Mia.

Mia closed her eyes.

"Her name was Sofia Romano."

The name meant nothing.

But the way everyone reacted told Luca everything.

"She was Elena's sister?"

Mia nodded.

"No."

A pause.

"She was Elena's mother."

Luca went completely still.

The family tree he thought he understood suddenly became something else.

"Wait."

He looked at Emma.

Then at Matteo.

Then at Mia.

"If Sofia was my mother..."

His voice became quieter.

"Then what is Emma?"

Mia looked at the little girl.

"Your niece."

Luca stared.

The world seemed to stop.

Emma.

The child who had washed his shirt.

The child who was afraid he would be angry.

The child who had asked him not to let her father disappear again.

She was connected to him.

Not by blood alone.

By the same secret.

Matteo stepped closer.

"That's why they wanted her."

Luca looked at him.

"Because of me?"

"Because of what you represent."

"I don't understand."

Matteo pointed toward the old video.

"Your father and the Romanos created a bloodline agreement."

Luca frowned.

"That sounds insane."

"It was."

Matteo continued.

"They believed combining the Moretti and Romano families would create something stronger."

Luca looked disgusted.

"They treated children like contracts."

"Yes."

Mia looked down.

"And when Sofia refused to let them control her children, they tried to erase everyone connected to her."

Luca finally understood.

The disappearances.

The lies.

The deaths.

Everything.

It wasn't random.

It was a cleanup.

Someone had been removing every person who knew the truth.

Including Matteo.

Including Elena.

Including Sofia.

"Where is my mother?"

Nobody answered.

That silence was different.

Luca noticed.

"Where is she?"

Mia looked at the ground.

"She died."

Luca stared.

"When?"

"Three years ago."

The same night Matteo disappeared.

The same night everything collapsed.

Luca closed his eyes.

Too many deaths.

Too many secrets.

Too many people protecting him by leaving him alone.

Then Emma moved.

She walked closer.

Small steps.

Careful steps.

She looked up at Luca.

"Are you sad?"

Luca looked down.

He didn't know what to say.

Children didn't understand complicated truths.

They only understood emotions.

"A little."

Emma reached into her pocket.

She pulled out a small folded piece of paper.

"I found this."

Luca took it.

"Where?"

"In Daddy's old box."

Matteo looked surprised.

"What box?"

Emma shrugged.

"The one under the bed."

Luca unfolded the paper.

The handwriting was old.

But familiar.

Matteo recognized it immediately.

His face changed.

"What?"

Luca looked at him.

"Who wrote this?"

Matteo didn't answer.

Because he already knew.

The paper contained only one sentence.

Luca was never the second child.

Everyone became silent.

Mia stepped closer.

"What does that mean?"

Luca read the next line.

His hands tightened.

He was the first.

Adrian's expression changed for the first time.

Fear.

Real fear.

Luca noticed.

"You know something."

Adrian stepped back.

"No."

"Tell me."

"I can't."

Luca walked toward him.

"Everyone keeps saying that."

Adrian looked at the paper.

Then at Luca.

"You don't understand what you are."

Luca stopped.

"What am I?"

Adrian whispered:

"The reason everyone is still alive."

Suddenly, the warehouse doors slammed shut.

The sound echoed.

The lights flickered.

Then every screen in the warehouse turned on.

A woman appeared.

Older.

Tired.

But alive.

Luca stared.

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone recognized her.

Mia covered her mouth.

Matteo froze.

Adrian stepped backward.

"No."

The woman looked directly into the camera.

Then she spoke.

"Luca."

His heart stopped.

Because he knew that voice.

He had heard it only once.

In a childhood memory he was never sure was real.

The woman smiled sadly.

"I know you were told I died."

A pause.

"But your father lied."

Luca couldn't move.

The screen showed her face.

His mother.

Sofia Romano.

Alive.

And the next words she said changed everything.

"The person who tried to kill me..."

The screen suddenly went black.

May you like

And behind Luca, someone whispered:

"Your father."
