Chapter 7 - The Choice Between Destiny and Love

The warning from my mother changed everything.

Not because it revealed there was an enemy inside the kingdom.

I already knew that.

Power always attracted people who wanted to steal it.

Kings had enemies.

Queens had enemies.

Even ordinary people like me had enemies.

No.

What terrified me was something else.

My mother had known.

She had known exactly what would happen.

She had known someone close to the throne would betray us.

And she had still allowed me to live a normal life.

A hidden life.

A painful life.

A life where I believed I was broken.

Why?

That question haunted me as the ceremonial hall descended into chaos.

Warriors moved through the room.

Elders whispered among themselves.

Every person looked at everyone else with suspicion.

Trust disappeared faster than a candle in the wind.

And in the center of it all stood Adrian.

The Alpha King.

The man everyone expected to have answers.

But for the first time since I met him…

he looked lost.

Not powerless.

Never that.

But like someone who had just realized the enemy he had been fighting was standing closer than he imagined.

I watched him carefully.

Because there was something I had learned about people.

Fear revealed the truth.

And Adrian was afraid.

Not for himself.

For me.

"Evelyn."

His voice pulled me back.

I looked at him.

"We need to leave this hall."

I held the letter tighter.

"No."

His expression changed.

Not anger.

Concern.

"You don't know who we can trust."

I looked around the room.

At the elders.

At the warriors.

At the people who had spent years allowing lies to exist.

"Exactly."

My voice carried through the hall.

"That's why I'm staying."

Silence.

Everyone turned toward me.

Five years ago, I would have lowered my head.

Five years ago, I would have apologized for speaking.

Five years ago, I would have disappeared.

But that woman was gone.

The poison had not destroyed me.

It had only hidden me.

"I spent half my life being told I didn't belong anywhere."

I looked at the elders.

"I was told I was weak."

My eyes moved to Elias.

"I was told I was useless."

The room became still.

"But everyone here was wrong."

A faint silver glow appeared beneath my skin.

Not because I wanted to show power.

Because my wolf was responding.

Recognizing.

"I belong to myself first."

Nobody moved.

Then Adrian stepped beside me.

Not in front.

Beside.

The difference mattered.

"I stand with her."

His words were simple.

But every wolf in the room understood.

The Alpha King had chosen.

Not because of blood.

Not because of prophecy.

Because of choice.

That was the kind of power people feared.

Elias watched us with a cold expression.

"You have no idea what you are doing."

I looked at him.

"Actually, for the first time in my life, I do."

His jaw tightened.

"You think awakening makes you powerful?"

"No."

I looked at the letter in my hand.

"My mother taught me something."

The room quieted.

"Power is not what makes someone dangerous."

I faced him.

"What makes someone dangerous is what they are willing to do to get it."

For the first time, Elias looked uncertain.

Good.

He should be.

Because the woman he thought he destroyed was no longer afraid.

Adrian ordered the hall sealed.

No one entered.

No one left.

The elders were questioned one by one.

And with every answer, the truth became uglier.

Glacier Claw had not just hidden my identity.

They had erased records.

Destroyed bloodline documents.

Manipulated reports.

They had built an entire system around controlling a future they feared.

But there was one question no one could answer.

Who gave the order?

Who was the person powerful enough to influence both Glacier Claw and the royal court?

The answer came just before midnight.

A warrior entered the hall.

His face was pale.

"My king."

Adrian looked up.

"What happened?"

The warrior hesitated.

"There was an attack."

Every person froze.

"Where?"

"The royal fortress."

My blood went cold.

"What?"

The warrior lowered his head.

"The enemy breached the western gate."

Adrian's expression changed.

"Who attacked?"

The warrior swallowed.

"The royal council."

Silence.

Impossible.

But somehow...

not surprising.

The enemy beside the throne.

My mother's warning.

Someone already sitting close enough to power.

My eyes met Adrian's.

He understood immediately.

"The council members who stayed behind."

The warrior nodded.

"They took control of the fortress."

A wave of anger moved through Adrian.

Not explosive.

Not reckless.

Controlled.

The kind of anger that belonged to a king.

But before he could speak, another voice interrupted.

"Evelyn."

I turned.

Helena stood behind the table.

The councilor from Glacier Claw.

The woman who saved my mother's letter.

The woman who had risked everything.

Her face was serious.

"There is something else you need to know."

Adrian immediately stepped between us.

"Careful."

Helena looked at him.

"If I wanted her dead, I would have destroyed the letter."

He didn't move.

But he listened.

Helena looked at me.

"Your mother did not hide you only because of your blood."

My heart tightened.

"What else?"

The older woman took a breath.

"Because of your bond."

I frowned.

"My bond?"

She looked at Adrian.

Then back at me.

"The Moon Heir does not choose an alpha through instinct alone."

The room became quiet.

"The Moon Heir chooses through trust."

I didn't understand.

Then I saw Adrian's expression.

And suddenly...

I did.

"No."

The word left my mouth.

Helena continued.

"Your mother knew the prophecy."

My heartbeat became louder.

"The Moon Heir will awaken beside the one who protects her without trying to own her."

My eyes moved to Adrian.

The man who had knelt before me.

The man who removed his weapon.

The man who spent five years helping me escape without asking for anything.

No.

I refused to accept it.

Because that meant everything was connected.

The strange pull.

The way my wolf reacted to him.

The way his wolf recognized mine.

The way I felt safe around the one person I was supposed to fear.

Adrian looked away.

That hurt more than anything.

"You knew."

His silence answered.

"You knew?"

His voice was quiet.

"I suspected."

I stared at him.

"How long?"

"Since the night I found the first trace of your scent."

I stepped back.

"And you never told me?"

"Because I didn't know if it was your choice."

The anger disappeared.

Replaced by something else.

Something painful.

"You were afraid of taking my choice."

He looked at me.

"Yes."

The honesty broke through every wall I had built.

Because that was the difference.

Everyone else wanted my power.

My blood.

My destiny.

Adrian was the only person who wanted me to choose.

A horn sounded outside.

Another warning.

The war had begun.

Adrian looked toward the doors.

"We need to move."

This time, I nodded.

Not because he commanded.

Because I decided.

We left Glacier Claw before dawn.

The mountains behind us burned with distant lights.

The kingdom was divided.

The throne was threatened.

And somewhere inside the royal fortress, someone was waiting for us.

But something had changed.

For years, I believed my destiny was a cage.

A role forced upon me.

A life written by others.

I was wrong.

Destiny was not a prison.

It was a door.

And for the first time, I had the key.

As we crossed the frozen mountains, Adrian rode beside me.

Not ahead.

Not behind.

Beside.

"You are afraid."

I looked at him.

"Yes."

He nodded.

"So am I."

That surprised me.

"The Alpha King is afraid?"

A faint smile appeared.

"The Alpha King is still a man."

For the first time, I smiled.

A real smile.

Small.

But real.

The storm was coming.

The war was coming.

The enemies who wanted my blood were waiting.

But they had made one mistake.

They spent five years trying to erase an omega.

They forgot something important.

The Moon Bloodline was never created to rule through fear.

It was created to protect.

And now I knew exactly what I was fighting for.

Not a throne.

Not power.

Not revenge.

A choice.

May you like

My choice.

And I would not let anyone take it from me again.
