Chapter 9 - The Last Battle for Annie

The memory card was smaller than Alessandro expected.

That was the first thought that crossed his mind.

After everything.

After eight years of secrets.

After three years of searching.

After losing Elena, finding Annie, discovering enemies hidden behind powerful names...

The truth was sitting in his palm.

A tiny piece of plastic.

Something that could fit between two fingers.

Yet it carried the weight of an entire life.

Alessandro stood alone inside his office, staring at it.

Behind him, the city slept.

But he knew better.

People like Adrian Vale did not sleep.

People like Victor Salvatore did not wait.

They watched.

They planned.

They moved when everyone else thought they were safe.

And now they knew Alessandro had the memory card.

That meant time was no longer on his side.

He inserted it into the computer.

For several seconds, nothing happened.

Then a single folder appeared.

ELENA.

His breathing stopped.

The name alone was enough.

Inside the folder were dozens of files.

Documents.

Photographs.

Videos.

Records.

Everything Elena had hidden.

Everything she had risked her life to protect.

Alessandro opened the first video.

The screen flickered.

Then Elena appeared.

Older.

Tired.

But alive.

She was sitting in a small room.

The background was unfamiliar.

Her eyes looked directly into the camera.

And Alessandro felt something break inside him.

Because this time, she was speaking to him.

Not through a stranger.

Not through a message.

To him.

"Alessandro."

Her voice.

After eight years.

The sound he thought he would never hear again.

"I don't know when you will see this."

She paused.

A small, painful smile appeared.

"But if you are watching this, it means Annie found you."

Alessandro closed his eyes.

Annie.

Even from far away, Elena had believed in this moment.

"I need you to understand something."

Elena looked down.

"I never left because I wanted to."

The words he had waited years to hear.

The words he needed.

"I left because I discovered something about Adrian Vale."

The screen changed.

Documents appeared.

Financial records.

Names.

Hidden companies.

Alessandro leaned closer.

"He wasn't just controlling information."

Elena continued.

"He was controlling people."

The files showed connections.

Politicians.

Corporations.

Private organizations.

A network.

A hidden empire built without violence.

Built with secrets.

"Adrian knew about us."

Elena's voice became softer.

"He knew about you before I met you."

Alessandro froze.

Before?

"He knew your family. Your business. Your enemies."

A pause.

"He knew one day you would become powerful."

The room felt colder.

"He wanted to use you."

Alessandro stared at the screen.

Everything suddenly made sense.

The timing.

The manipulation.

The people who appeared and disappeared around him.

Adrian had not attacked him.

He had studied him.

"I discovered he was collecting information on powerful families."

Elena continued.

"And your family was his biggest target."

A photograph appeared.

An old photograph.

Alessandro's father.

Older members of the Moretti organization.

Documents.

Plans.

"Adrian didn't want money."

Elena looked directly into the camera.

"He wanted control."

The video paused.

Then resumed.

"But when he realized I knew too much, he changed his plan."

Alessandro already knew.

But hearing it from Elena hurt.

"He knew hurting me would not break you."

A pause.

"He knew losing Annie would."

Alessandro's hands tightened.

The old anger returned.

But beneath it was something else.

Guilt.

Elena continued.

"I wanted to tell you."

Her eyes filled with tears.

"Every day."

Alessandro looked away.

"But I knew you."

A sad smile.

"I knew exactly what you would do."

The truth was painful.

Because she was right.

He would have come.

He would have destroyed everything.

He would have started a war.

"And that is what Adrian wanted."

Elena whispered.

"He wanted you angry. He wanted you reckless."

The video ended.

For a moment, Alessandro could only hear his own breathing.

Then another file opened automatically.

A message.

The final message.

FROM ELENA.

Alessandro clicked.

A single sentence appeared.

Protect Annie.

Not the empire.

Not revenge.

Not power.

Annie.

His daughter.

The next morning, Alessandro made a decision.

A decision that shocked everyone.

He called a meeting.

Every important person in his organization attended.

Business leaders.

Security chiefs.

Trusted allies.

Everyone expected a war announcement.

Everyone expected revenge.

Instead, Alessandro stood at the front of the room and said:

"We are ending this."

Silence.

Nobody understood.

Marco looked at him.

"Ending what?"

"The old way."

Alessandro placed the memory card on the table.

"For years, I built everything around fear."

He looked around the room.

"It worked."

Nobody disagreed.

"But it also created enemies who only know one language."

He paused.

"Control."

The room remained silent.

"I spent years protecting an empire."

His eyes hardened.

"But I forgot to protect the people who mattered."

Nobody moved.

Because they had never heard Alessandro speak like this.

Not once.

"This ends with Adrian Vale."

Marco stepped forward.

"How?"

Alessandro looked at him.

"By taking away the only thing he has."

"What?"

"His secrets."

By evening, the plan was ready.

Adrian Vale had spent years collecting information on others.

But Alessandro had something Adrian did not expect.

Patience.

And Elena's files.

Everything Adrian had hidden.

Every illegal transaction.

Every manipulation.

Every person he controlled.

It was all there.

Enough to destroy him.

But Alessandro knew something.

Men like Adrian did not surrender.

They fought harder when cornered.

And that was exactly what happened.

At midnight, the mansion security system went down.

Again.

The lights flickered.

The guards moved instantly.

Marco entered the room.

"He's here."

Alessandro looked toward the hallway.

"Who?"

Marco's expression was serious.

"Adrian."

A strange calm came over Alessandro.

Because after years of chasing shadows...

The shadow finally stepped into the light.

Adrian Vale entered the mansion without fear.

He was older than Alessandro expected.

Not physically intimidating.

Not dangerous in appearance.

That was what made him dangerous.

Men like him never needed muscles.

They used minds.

"Alessandro."

Adrian smiled.

"You look exactly like your father."

Alessandro stared at him.

"And you look exactly like someone who underestimated me."

Adrian laughed quietly.

"Still emotional."

"No."

Alessandro stepped forward.

"Focused."

Adrian looked around.

"Where is the girl?"

Alessandro's expression changed instantly.

The question confirmed everything.

Adrian was not there for revenge.

Not money.

Not power.

Annie.

"You spent years searching for her."

Adrian smiled.

"Because she has something that belongs to me."

Alessandro moved closer.

"Nothing about her belongs to you."

For the first time, Adrian's smile disappeared.

"Elena always did this."

"What?"

"She always believed love could beat reality."

Alessandro's eyes darkened.

"Don't say her name."

Adrian ignored the warning.

"She believed she could protect you."

A pause.

"She was wrong."

Before Alessandro could respond, a sound came from upstairs.

A small voice.

"Daddy?"

Everything stopped.

Annie stood at the top of the stairs.

Alessandro immediately turned.

"Annie, go back."

But Adrian looked at her.

And smiled.

Not kindly.

Not warmly.

Like a man seeing the final piece of a puzzle.

"There she is."

Alessandro moved between them.

The message was clear.

No one gets closer.

Not one step.

Adrian studied him.

Then said quietly:

"Now I understand."

"What?"

"She really did change you."

Alessandro's eyes narrowed.

Adrian looked almost disappointed.

"The most powerful man in the city."

A pause.

"Brought down by a little girl."

Alessandro looked at Annie.

Then back at Adrian.

And answered:

"No."

His voice was calm.

"She didn't bring me down."

He stepped forward.

"She gave me something worth standing for."

The room became silent.

Because Adrian finally understood.

The mistake he made.

He thought Annie was Alessandro's weakness.

But she was not.

She was the reason he could not be defeated.

And for the first time...

Adrian Vale looked uncertain.

Because the man standing in front of him was no longer fighting for power.

May you like

He was fighting for his family.

And that was a battle nobody could control.
