Chapter 6 - The Mafia Boss Who Chose Love Over Power

Alessandro Moretti had spent most of his life believing that fear was the strongest weapon a man could possess.

Fear kept enemies away.

Fear made people think twice before betraying you.

Fear protected everything you built.

That was the world Alessandro understood.

A world where trust was dangerous.

A world where kindness was often mistaken for weakness.

A world where love was a vulnerability waiting to be exploited.

But then Annie came into his life.

And everything he believed about strength began to change.

Because for the first time, Alessandro discovered something more powerful than fear.

Love.

And that terrified him more than any enemy ever had.

The security breach at the mansion changed everything.

By sunrise, the entire property had been transformed.

More guards.

More cameras.

More protection.

Every entrance was monitored.

Every vehicle approaching the property was checked.

The Moretti mansion had always been secure.

But now it had become a fortress.

Not because Alessandro was protecting his empire.

Because he was protecting one little girl.

Annie noticed the changes immediately.

She stood near the large windows in the living room, watching the guards walking outside.

"Are those people here because of me?"

Alessandro looked up from his desk.

He had been reading reports all morning.

Reports about Victor Salvatore.

Reports about Elena.

Reports about anyone connected to the past that had returned to destroy his present.

But Annie's question pulled him away from everything.

He closed the file.

"No."

She looked confused.

"Then why are they here?"

Alessandro walked toward her.

"They're here because I want to make sure you're safe."

Annie looked outside again.

"Because bad people are looking for me?"

Alessandro paused.

He hated that she understood.

Children should not know about bad people.

Children should worry about cartoons and toys.

Not enemies.

Not danger.

Not hiding.

"Some people don't understand how important you are."

Annie touched the silver songbird necklace.

"My mommy said people were looking for it."

Alessandro froze.

"The necklace?"

Annie nodded.

"She said never take it off."

A cold feeling moved through him.

The necklace was not just a memory.

It was a key.

A message.

Something Elena protected.

Something Victor wanted.

"Annie."

She looked at him.

"Do you know why your mommy gave you the necklace?"

She thought for a moment.

Then shook her head.

"She said one day I would understand."

Alessandro looked away.

Because Elena had always been like that.

Always preparing.

Always thinking five steps ahead.

Even when she was afraid.

Especially when she was afraid.

That afternoon, Alessandro met with Marco in the underground security room.

The walls were covered with screens.

Camera feeds.

Maps.

Information.

The kind of room that represented everything Alessandro had built.

Power.

Control.

Knowledge.

But today, all of it felt useless.

Because the one person who mattered most had been hidden from him for three years.

"What did we find?" Alessandro asked.

Marco placed a tablet on the table.

"The person who accessed the mansion security system left a trace."

Alessandro looked at the screen.

A digital signature.

A pattern.

Someone had intentionally allowed themselves to be discovered.

"This wasn't a mistake."

Marco nodded.

"No."

"It was a message."

"Exactly."

Alessandro's eyes narrowed.

Victor.

It had to be.

The man loved games.

He loved reminding people that he was always watching.

"What message?"

Marco pressed a button.

A video appeared.

Security footage from outside the mansion.

A black car parked near the road.

The driver never exited.

The vehicle remained there for twelve minutes.

Then disappeared.

Alessandro watched carefully.

"Enhance the image."

The screen zoomed in.

The quality was poor.

But enough.

A symbol appeared on the windshield.

A small silver mark.

Alessandro's expression changed.

Marco noticed.

"You know it."

Alessandro nodded slowly.

"Victor's symbol."

The same symbol appeared in every place connected to him.

Not officially.

Never officially.

Victor was too careful for that.

But everyone knew.

It was his signature.

A warning.

Alessandro stared at the screen.

"He wants me to know he's close."

Marco nodded.

"Yes."

"Why?"

Marco was silent.

Because they both knew.

Victor wanted something.

And he wanted Alessandro angry.

Angry people made mistakes.

But Victor did not understand something.

This was not the old Alessandro.

The old Alessandro had nothing to lose.

This Alessandro had Annie.

And that changed everything.

That evening, Annie found Alessandro in his office.

Normally, nobody entered without permission.

Nobody.

But Annie walked in holding a small drawing.

Alessandro looked up.

"What are you doing here?"

She held the paper toward him.

"I made something."

He took it.

A family.

Three people.

A woman.

A man.

A little girl.

And above them, a silver bird.

Alessandro stared at it.

"You drew this before."

Annie nodded.

"Mommy used to draw it too."

His eyes lifted.

"She did?"

Annie sat on the chair beside him.

"She said the bird was special."

"Why?"

"Because it always comes back."

The words were simple.

But they carried meaning.

Alessandro looked at the drawing.

For years, he believed Elena leaving meant he had lost her.

Now he wondered if she had been fighting to return.

"What was your mommy like?"

Annie smiled.

A real smile.

"She sang."

Alessandro looked at her.

"She sang?"

Annie nodded.

"She sang when I was scared."

The room became quiet.

Because Alessandro remembered.

Elena used to sing.

Not professionally.

Not for anyone else.

Just quietly.

When they were alone.

She used to tell him that songs helped people remember they were still alive.

"I don't remember her voice anymore."

The confession came out before he could stop it.

Annie looked at him.

"You do."

Alessandro frowned.

"What?"

She touched the necklace.

"Mommy said you remember everything."

For a moment, Alessandro could not speak.

Because a child who barely knew him had just understood him better than most adults.

That night, Alessandro made a decision.

One that shocked everyone around him.

He canceled three major meetings.

Postponed a business expansion.

Delayed negotiations worth millions.

Marco was the only person who questioned it.

"You know people will notice."

Alessandro looked at him.

"Let them."

"They'll think you're distracted."

Alessandro looked toward the hallway.

Toward Annie's room.

"Maybe I am."

Marco was surprised.

Alessandro continued.

"But not because I'm weak."

He looked back.

"I'm focused on something more important."

Marco understood.

The empire had always been Alessandro's priority.

Until now.

Later that night, Alessandro sat beside Annie's bed.

She had fallen asleep holding the silver songbird.

The sight was something he never imagined.

Him.

A man feared by thousands.

Sitting beside a child's bed.

Watching her sleep.

Protecting her from nightmares he could not fight.

He thought about all the moments he missed.

Her first words.

Her first steps.

Her first birthday.

Three years.

Gone.

A painful emptiness filled him.

Then Annie moved.

Her eyes opened slightly.

"Are you leaving?"

Alessandro looked at her.

"No."

"Promise?"

The word hurt.

Because Elena's letter had asked him to protect her.

But Annie was asking something different.

She was asking if he would stay.

Alessandro reached out and gently fixed her blanket.

"I promise."

She smiled.

Then closed her eyes again.

And for the first time in years...

Alessandro Moretti felt peace.

Only for a moment.

Because his phone vibrated.

One message.

Unknown number.

He opened it.

There was only one sentence.

YOU FOUND HER.

His expression changed.

Another message appeared.

NOW FIND OUT WHY SHE WAS TAKEN.

Then a photograph loaded.

A photograph of Elena.

Alive.

Standing outside an unknown building.

Taken recently.

Alessandro stopped breathing.

Because if the photograph was real...

Then everything changed.

Elena was not gone.

She was alive.

And someone had spent three years making him believe she was dead.

His hand tightened around the phone.

The mafia boss returned.

But this time, he was not fighting for power.

He was fighting for the truth.

And for the woman who had sacrificed everything to protect their daughter.

Alessandro looked once more at Annie sleeping peacefully.

Then at the photograph of Elena.

A single thought filled his mind.

May you like

I am coming for you.

No matter who is standing in my way.
