Chapter 6 - The Traitor Who Tried to Erase His Bloodline

The first rule I ever learned in my world was simple.
Trust was dangerous.
But the second rule was the one that destroyed me.
The person who hurts you the most is usually the person you never thought you had to fear.
For years, I believed my enemies were the men outside my organization.
The businessmen who wanted my empire.
The criminals who wanted my territory.
The people who smiled in public and planned against me in private.
I was prepared for them.
I watched them.
I studied them.
But I never looked at the man standing beside me.
Marco Bellini.
My closest friend.
My most trusted advisor.
The man who had held me up when Isabella died.
The man who told me to stop searching.
The man who looked me in the eyes and said there was nothing left to find.
Now, standing inside the old lighthouse with Isabella’s letter in my hand, I finally understood.
He was not helping me accept my loss.
He was helping me accept his lie.
The ocean crashed violently against the cliffs below.
The sound filled the lighthouse like a warning.
I stared at the documents Isabella had hidden.
Photographs.
Records.
Names.
Evidence.
Everything she had risked her life to protect.
And everything someone had tried to destroy.
Antonio stood behind me, waiting.
He knew better than to interrupt.
He had worked beside me for years.
He knew my anger.
But this was different.
This was not the anger of a businessman betrayed by another businessman.
This was the anger of a father who discovered someone tried to erase his child.
“Take everything,” I finally said.
Antonio nodded.
“Every document?”
“Everything.”
He carefully placed the evidence into a secure case.
I picked up one photograph.
It showed Marco.
Standing beside another man.
A man I recognized.
Victor Salvatore.
One of the most powerful figures in the underground world.
Someone who had always been considered an enemy.
The photograph was old.
But the meaning was clear.
Marco had not betrayed me recently.
He had been working against me for years.
“Antonio.”
“Yes?”
“Find every connection between Marco and Victor.”
He hesitated.
“Boss…”
I looked at him.
“What?”
“If this is true…”
“It is.”
My voice was cold.
“I know.”
Because Isabella had known.
And Isabella never made mistakes.
We returned to the mansion before sunrise.
The first thing I did was go to Lily.
She was sleeping peacefully.
Completely unaware that the world around her was changing.
I stood beside her crib.
For a long time, I said nothing.
I just watched her breathe.
Four years ago, I lost Isabella.
Last night, I found my daughter.
And today, I was preparing to fight the people who tried to take her from me.
Life had a strange way of giving you something precious right before asking you to risk everything for it.
A soft sound came from behind me.
Emma.
She stood at the door holding a small stuffed animal.
“Can I come in?”
I nodded.
She walked closer.
“Is Lily safe?”
I looked at her.
“Yes.”
Emma smiled.
Then she looked at me carefully.
“Are you angry?”
The question surprised me.
“Why do you ask?”
“Because Mama said angry people make mistakes.”
I remained silent.
Clara had taught her well.
“What else did your mother say?”
Emma looked down.
“She said you were a good man.”
A bitter smile almost appeared.
“Your mother believed that?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Emma shrugged.
“Because Isabella believed it.”
That answer hurt.
Because Isabella still believed in me even when I was not there for her.
I looked at Lily.
“I will protect her.”
Emma nodded.
“I know.”
The confidence in her voice surprised me.
“You do?”
She looked at me.
“You saved her.”
A simple statement.
But somehow, it carried more power than any reputation I had built.
Children did not care about fear.
They cared about actions.
And I had to make sure my actions proved Isabella right.
Later that morning, Antonio brought me the information I requested.
The results were worse than expected.
Marco had been moving money through hidden accounts.
He had accessed confidential files.
He had contacted people outside the organization.
And most importantly…
He had been near Isabella the night she disappeared.
I stared at the report.
“How long?”
Antonio looked uncomfortable.
“How long what?”
“How long did he know about Lily?”
Antonio paused.
“We found something.”
He placed another document on the desk.
A medical record.
My eyes moved across the page.
The date.
The location.
The name.
My hands tightened.
“This is impossible.”
Antonio said nothing.
Because he knew.
The record showed someone had attempted to access information about Isabella’s pregnancy.
Someone had tried to find out if the baby survived.
And the request came from inside my own organization.
Marco.
“He knew,” I whispered.
Antonio nodded.
“He knew about Lily before you did.”
The room became silent.
Four years.
For four years, Marco knew I had a daughter.
He knew Isabella was trying to protect her.
He knew the truth.
And he watched me suffer.
Something inside me changed.
Not anger.
Something colder.
Determination.
My phone rang.
Unknown number.
I answered.
No one spoke.
Only silence.
Then a voice.
“Alessandro.”
I froze.
Because I recognized it.
Marco.
“Where are you?”
A quiet laugh.
“You always did ask the wrong questions first.”
My grip tightened.
“You knew.”
Silence.
Then:
“I knew everything.”
The words felt like a knife.
“Why?”
Another pause.
“Because Isabella was never supposed to have a child.”
My entire body went still.
“What did you say?”
“You were building something dangerous, Alessandro.”
His voice remained calm.
“An empire. A family. A future.”
“That was not your decision.”
“No.”
A pause.
“That was Victor’s.”
My eyes hardened.
“Where is he?”
Marco ignored the question.
“Do you know what Isabella’s mistake was?”
I said nothing.
“She believed love could make you weak.”
My voice became quiet.
“She was wrong.”
“No.”
Marco laughed softly.
“She was right.”
I looked toward Lily’s room.
“No.”
My answer was immediate.
“She was the reason I became stronger.”
Silence.
Then Marco said:
“Then come find out how strong you really are.”
The call ended.
I stared at the phone.
Antonio watched me.
“Boss?”
I stood.
“Prepare the team.”
“Where are we going?”
I picked up Isabella’s letter.
The final piece of evidence.
The warning she left for me.
“We are going to end this.”
Before I could leave, Clara appeared.
Her face was pale.
“You spoke to him.”
I looked at her.
“Yes.”
She closed her eyes.
“Then he knows.”
“Knows what?”
“That you found the truth.”
I stepped closer.
“Good.”
Clara looked afraid.
“You don’t understand.”
“Explain.”
She lowered her voice.
“Marco is not the only one involved.”
The room became silent.
“What?”
“Isabella told me there were more people.”
“Who?”
“I don’t know.”
Again.
That answer.
But this time, I believed her.
Because Isabella had not been fighting one person.
She had been fighting a system.
A group of people who believed they could control my life.
Control my family.
Control my future.
They made one mistake.
They forgot something.
I was no longer fighting because I had lost something.
I was fighting because I had something to protect.
My daughter.
My family.
My Isabella’s last wish.
I walked toward Lily’s room one more time.
I placed a hand gently on the crib.
“I promise you.”
My voice was quiet.
“But I will find everyone who tried to take you from me.”
Outside, the city continued moving.
People continued living normal lives.
But somewhere in the darkness, the people who destroyed my family were waiting.
They thought they had already won.
They thought four years of lies had buried the truth forever.
They were wrong.
Because Isabella had left me a path.
A clue.
A reason.
And now I was walking straight toward them.
Not as a grieving husband.
Not as a broken man.
But as a father.
May you like
And every person who stood between me and the truth was about to learn one thing.
A father protecting his child was more dangerous than any enemy they had ever faced.
