Chapter 1 - The Night I Was Left To Die

A woman collapsed in the snow outside a locked mansion gate, whispering:

"Please... save my baby."

When Dominic Falcone arrived, he found a broken diamond bracelet buried in the ice beside her.

But four words were engraved inside the clasp:

"Property of Montgomery Family."

Dominic suddenly realized this was not an accident.

I could still remember the sound of those gates closing.

Not the shouting.

Not the wind.

Not even my own screams.

The gates.

The cold metal dragging across the ground as the security system locked me outside Nathaniel Harrington’s home forever.

November 18th.

11:47 p.m.

That was the exact moment my life ended.

And the exact moment another man decided to save it.

Before that night, everyone believed I had everything.

Clara Montgomery.

The daughter of an old American family.

The wife of billionaire Nathaniel Harrington.

The woman standing beside one of New York’s most powerful businessmen.

People saw the diamonds.

The penthouse.

The private events.

The expensive dresses.

They never saw the woman behind them.

They never saw the loneliness.

They never saw how Nathaniel stopped looking at me long before he stopped pretending to love me.

I was thirty years old.

Nine months pregnant.

And still stupid enough to believe my husband would protect me.

That night had started as one of Nathaniel’s greatest victories.

The Harrington penthouse was filled with powerful people.

Investors.

Politicians.

Business leaders.

Everyone wanted to shake Nathaniel’s hand after his latest acquisition.

He had built an empire before turning thirty-five.

Everyone called him a genius.

A visionary.

A man who could never lose.

I used to believe that too.

I stood near the marble staircase with one hand resting on my stomach.

My son moved inside me.

A small reminder that something beautiful still existed in a world that had become colder every day.

I watched Nathaniel across the ballroom.

He was smiling.

Confident.

Untouchable.

Then the pain came.

At first, I thought it was another false alarm.

The doctor had warned me.

The baby could come anytime.

But this was different.

The pain traveled through my entire body.

I grabbed the marble railing.

My breathing changed.

Another contraction.

Stronger.

I needed Nathaniel.

I moved through the crowd.

"Excuse me."

Nobody noticed.

Everyone was too busy celebrating the billionaire who had everything.

I reached the private west hallway.

The noise disappeared.

The heavy wooden door to Nathaniel’s study was slightly open.

I smiled weakly.

Maybe he was inside.

Maybe he would finally look at me.

Maybe he would become the husband I remembered.

I pushed the door open.

And my entire world stopped.

Nathaniel was standing beside his desk.

And he was not alone.

Victoria Kensington.

My best friend.

The woman who had attended every family dinner.

The woman who had hugged me when I announced my pregnancy.

The woman who told me Nathaniel was lucky to have me.

Her hands were wrapped around his shoulders.

Her crimson dress was lying across the leather chair.

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Then Nathaniel looked at me.

Not shocked.

Not guilty.

Just annoyed.

That hurt more than the betrayal.

"Nathaniel..."

My voice broke.

Victoria slowly stepped away.

She looked at my stomach.

Then she smiled.

A small smile.

Like she had already won.

Another contraction hit.

I grabbed the doorframe.

Nathaniel looked down.

At first, I thought he finally understood.

Then he looked at the floor.

The water had broken.

My dress was soaked.

"My baby..."

I could barely speak.

"I need a hospital."

Nathaniel sighed.

Not rushed.

Not afraid.

Just disappointed.

"You always know how to ruin important moments."

I stared at him.

I thought I had misunderstood.

"What?"

He walked toward me.

His expensive shoes stopped inches away from my trembling hands.

"The investors are here tonight."

He adjusted his cufflink.

"You chose now?"

I felt something inside me break.

"Nathaniel, I'm in labor."

"You should have planned better."

The words felt impossible.

No husband said things like that.

Not to the mother of his child.

I reached for him.

"Please."

He looked at me like I was a problem he needed to remove.

Then he said the sentence that changed everything.

"There is no child of mine."

My blood turned cold.

"What?"

Victoria crossed her arms.

"He finally told you?"

I looked at her.

"What are you talking about?"

Nathaniel smiled.

A cold, empty smile.

"I had a vasectomy years ago."

My heart stopped.

Because I knew that was a lie.

I knew because I had watched every doctor appointment.

I knew because our son was his.

But Nathaniel needed a reason.

A reason to erase me.

A reason to walk away.

"You cheated," he said.

The accusation was so unbelievable that I couldn't even cry.

"I never..."

"Save it."

He turned away.

Then he snapped his fingers.

Two men entered.

His private security.

Led by Jackson Miller.

I knew Jackson.

He had protected Nathaniel for years.

But that night, he looked away from me.

"Take everything."

Nathaniel's voice was calm.

"The jewelry. The phone. The purse."

I froze.

"Nathaniel..."

"And remove her from the property."

The room went silent.

Victoria walked toward me.

Her fingers touched the diamond bracelet around my wrist.

The bracelet my mother gave me.

She removed it slowly.

"Goodbye, Clara."

Her voice was almost gentle.

"Try not to freeze."

I wanted to fight.

I wanted to scream.

But another contraction destroyed my strength.

Jackson grabbed my arm.

"Please."

It was the only word I could say.

He looked uncomfortable.

But he obeyed.

Minutes later, I was in the service elevator.

Alone.

Cold.

Terrified.

The doors opened.

The snow hit my face.

The security guards pushed me outside.

Then the gates closed.

I fell onto the frozen pavement.

My hands scraped against the ice.

My baby was coming.

And nobody was coming for me.

I crawled.

One step.

Then another.

The city lights blurred.

My body was shutting down.

I thought about my son.

I thought about his tiny heartbeat.

I whispered:

"Mommy is here."

But the snow kept falling.

And my vision started fading.

Somewhere nearby, an armored black SUV slowed down.

Inside sat Dominic Falcone.

A man whose name made powerful people nervous.

A man who had spent his life surrounded by violence.

His driver looked ahead.

"Boss."

Dominic didn't answer.

"There is someone in the street."

The SUV stopped.

Dominic looked through the window.

And saw me.

A pregnant woman dying alone in the snow.

Most men would have driven away.

But Dominic noticed one thing.

My hands.

They were still protecting my unborn child.

"Stop the car."

His driver turned.

"Boss?"

Dominic opened the door.

"Now."

He stepped into the storm.

And walked toward me.

I barely saw his face.

Only dark eyes.

A black coat.

A stranger kneeling beside me.

"Can you hear me?"

I tried to answer.

My lips barely moved.

"Please..."

My voice disappeared.

"Save my son."

For the first time in years, Dominic Falcone felt something he thought he had buried.

A reason to protect someone.

He removed his coat.

Wrapped it around me.

Then lifted me from the snow.

"Stay awake."

His voice was firm.

"You are not dying tonight."

The world went dark.

But before I lost consciousness, I heard him say one sentence.

"Vincent, call Dr. Weiss."

A pause.

Then:

May you like

"We are saving both of them."

And somewhere behind us, hidden in the storm, someone watched Dominic carry me away.
