Chapter 1 - The Little Girl Who Stopped the Mafia Meeting

A three-year-old girl stood barefoot outside a locked conference room door, crying: "Please save my mommy!"

Mafia boss Damian Calloway abandoned a million-dollar negotiation and found a broken necklace belonging to the missing maid.

On the back was a tiny engraving: "For Lily. Always remember."

Damian suddenly realized this wasn't a kidnapping case.

The scream reached Damian Calloway before the little girl did.

It cut through the private conference room of the Calloway estate so sharply that twelve powerful men stopped speaking at the exact same moment.

The crystal glasses on the table remained untouched.

The contracts remained open.

The numbers worth millions of dollars remained waiting beneath the golden lights.

But none of it mattered anymore.

Because standing in the doorway was Lily Reyes.

Three years old.

Barefoot.

Wearing a pink nightgown with one missing sock and tears covering her small face.

“Please save my mommy!”

The room went silent.

Damian had spent years learning how to control every emotion that crossed his face.

Fear.

Anger.

Pain.

Nothing reached him unless he allowed it.

But when Lily looked at him with those terrified eyes, something changed.

He pushed away from the table.

“Damian,” Vincent Hale said sharply, standing from his chair. “We are ten minutes away from signing the coastal contract.”

Damian did not answer.

His attention never left the child.

Lily ran across the marble floor.

Her tiny feet slipped slightly against the polished surface.

Then she grabbed onto his leg with both arms.

“The bad man took Mommy.”

Damian slowly lowered himself.

For the first time that night, the most feared man in Newport was no longer looking at a business partner.

He was looking at a frightened child.

“Lily,” he said quietly. “Look at me.”

She tried.

But her tears kept falling.

“Where did they take her?”

“The boat house.”

The room changed instantly.

Several men exchanged looks.

Damian noticed.

He noticed everything.

“Who took her?”

Lily shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

Her fingers tightened around his expensive suit.

“Two men came. Mommy told me to run to you.”

Damian felt something cold move through him.

Because Maya Reyes was not the kind of woman who asked anyone for help.

Not even him.

Especially not him.

Two months earlier, Maya had arrived at the Calloway estate carrying one small suitcase, a worn purse, and a little girl who refused to let go of her hand.

Damian remembered the interview clearly.

The estate manager, Evelyn Parker, had warned him about the new housekeeper.

“She has a child.”

Damian looked up from his paperwork.

“I did not hire a child.”

“No,” Evelyn replied calmly. “You hired a mother.”

He almost dismissed the conversation.

Almost.

Then he saw Lily sitting in the corner of the room drawing on old paper.

She looked at him.

Not with fear.

Not with admiration.

Just curiosity.

“What are you drawing?” Damian asked.

“A potato.”

Damian looked at the paper.

It was a strange circle with several lines.

“That is a potato?”

“Yes.”

“It has hair.”

Lily nodded seriously.

“Potatoes can have hair.”

For reasons he never understood, Damian almost smiled.

Almost.

Maya apologized immediately.

“I’m sorry. She talks too much.”

Damian looked at the little girl.

“She talks honestly.”

That was the first thing Maya noticed about him.

Everyone in Newport described Damian Calloway as dangerous.

Cold.

Impossible to understand.

But Lily saw something else.

She saw a lonely man sitting in a giant house surrounded by people who were afraid of him.

Over the next months, something unexpected happened.

Lily started appearing wherever Damian was.

She brought him drawings.

She asked him questions.

She once interrupted a serious phone call to tell him that his black coffee looked “sad.”

Damian never admitted it.

But the mansion felt different when she was inside.

Maya noticed too.

She saw the way Damian stopped working when Lily entered the room.

She saw the way he listened.

Really listened.

But Maya also knew something Damian did not.

The Calloway family had secrets.

And someone inside that family wanted those secrets buried forever.

That was why, on the night Lily ran into the conference room, Damian immediately knew something was wrong.

He carried her through the hallway.

The little girl buried her face against his shoulder.

“Mommy said not to trust anyone.”

Damian stopped walking.

“Anyone?”

Lily hesitated.

Then whispered:

“She said except you.”

For a moment, Damian said nothing.

Because those three words scared him more than any threat.

Someone had chosen him.

Someone had trusted him.

And now that person was missing.

The mansion security team followed him toward the private boathouse.

The ocean wind moved through the open corridors.

The old building stood near the water, dark and silent.

Damian carried Lily closer.

Then he saw something on the ground.

A broken necklace.

Maya’s necklace.

He picked it up.

The chain was damaged.

The pendant was scratched.

But there was something written behind it.

A message.

A message Damian had never seen before.

He turned the pendant over.

And read the words.

Then his phone rang.

The caller ID showed a name he had not seen in ten years.

His father’s name.

Damian stared at the screen.

May you like

Because his father was supposed to be dead.

And the phone was already ringing from inside the boathouse…
