Chapter 5 - The Accounting

Inside the diner, the heavy front door opened again. But this time, it wasn’t to let the Iron Skulls out.

The leading rider from the parking lot stepped inside, his heavy boots clicking on the checkered floor. He was followed by five more veterans. They were grim, silent, and massive. They did not shout; they simply occupied space. They moved as one unit, surrounding the corner booth where Viper and his crew were effectively trapped.

Viper, the man who had poured food and snapped the cane, was no longer a leader. He was trapped. As visualized in image_5.png, the power dynamic was absolute. The large, imposing veterans loomed over the scene, stone statues of enforcement.

Viper looked from Elias to the giant standing over him. He knew fighting was useless. There were too many, and they were the original article.

"The cane," the lead veteran said. His voice was low, gravelly.

Viper looked down at the two splintered halves on the floor, the evidence of his arrogance.

"Pick it up."

Viper, shaking now, knelt on the dirty floor. He gathered the broken wood, his hands trembling—the weakness he had mocked earlier now his own reality. He stood up slowly, offering the pieces like a child who had broken a vase.

The lead veteran didn't take them. He looked at Elias.

Elias Thorne finally set down his fork. He looked past the towering guards, past the kneeling, humiliated Viper, toward the front counter.

Sarah the waitress, seeing the conflict resolved, tentatively approached, holding a coffee pot. She stopped, unsure of the protocol.

Elias extended his right hand. "Sarah," he said gently. "I believe I asked for a cup of coffee."

The simple request cracked the tension. Sarah smiled, stepped forward, and poured a stream of hot, black coffee into a clean, white ceramic mug.

Elias picked up the mug. He took a sip, closing his eyes briefly as the steam rose. His hands were perfectly steady.

When he opened his eyes, he looked at Viper. "You are not broken, young man. But your perspective is." Elias gestured faintly to the lead guard. "They will see that your club understands respect. And they will ensure I receive my new cane by Friday. A duplicate of the blackthorn."

Viper nodded dumbly, utterly defeated and humiliated. The accounting was complete.

"Now," Elias said, looking at the large, quiet room full of his oldest friends. "I’m going to finish my meal."

The lead guard motioned for the Iron Skulls to be removed. As they were escorted out, invisible now, the diner bell chimed softly. Elias Thorne, surrounded by his brothers, peacefully drank his coffee. The long shadow of the Old Guard remained intact.
