Chapter 2 - The Security Archive That Was Never Meant To Be Found

The wedding guests stopped pretending they were not watching.

They stood frozen beneath the white roses, holding champagne glasses they no longer drank from.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone understood one thing.

The name on Marco Rizzi’s screen had changed everything.

Isabella Romano.

My future wife.

The woman whose hand I was supposed to hold in front of God, my family, and every powerful person who had traveled across the country to witness our marriage.

The woman who had just been connected to a deleted security file.

I stared at the screen for several seconds.

Not because I didn't believe Marco.

Because a part of me was still trying to protect the image of Isabella that existed in my mind.

The woman who had sat beside me during difficult negotiations.

The woman who had held my hand after my father died.

The woman who had looked at me and promised she would never betray me.

But then I looked at Emma.

A three-year-old child standing beside me.

A child who had nothing to gain.

A child who had risked making powerful people angry because she believed someone needed to hear the truth.

And suddenly, the question was no longer whether Isabella was capable of hurting someone.

The question was how long she had been hiding it.

"Marco," I said quietly.

He immediately locked his phone.

"Yes, boss."

"Take me to the footage."

A wave of whispers moved through the crowd.

Isabella stepped forward.

"Alessandro."

I didn't look at her.

"Not now."

Her expression tightened.

"I think you are making a mistake."

That made me turn.

Slowly.

"You think investigating something involving an innocent child is a mistake?"

Her lips parted.

For the first time, she didn't have an answer ready.

That was unusual.

Isabella always had an answer.

She knew exactly what to say.

Exactly when to smile.

Exactly when to appear hurt.

But now she looked like someone who had just realized the room was no longer under her control.

"I never hurt anyone," she said.

Her voice was calm.

Too calm.

"I have spent months preparing this wedding. I have supported you. I have loved you."

I looked at her.

"And Sophia?"

A small silence followed.

Her eyes moved.

Just slightly.

Toward the mansion entrance.

Toward the woman standing in the shadows.

That movement was enough.

Because innocent people usually looked confused.

Guilty people looked for witnesses.

Sophia lowered her head.

She looked ashamed.

Not angry.

Not relieved.

Ashamed.

I walked away from Isabella.

Marco followed.

Emma stayed beside me.

"Can my mommy come too?" she asked.

I stopped.

I looked back at Sophia.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Then I nodded.

"Yes."

Sophia hesitated.

"Mr. Moretti..."

"Alessandro."

She looked surprised.

I had known her for two years.

And I realized I had never once asked her to call me by my first name.

"I want to know the truth," I said.

Her eyes filled with fear.

"The truth is dangerous."

I held her gaze.

"So is hiding it."

She looked down.

Then she slowly walked toward us.

The four of us entered the mansion together.

Behind us, the wedding remained unfinished.

The flowers were still arranged.

The chairs were still perfectly aligned.

The altar was still waiting.

But nobody was getting married anymore.

Not until I knew what had happened.

The security room was located beneath the east wing of the mansion.

Most guests didn't know it existed.

Even some employees had never seen it.

The room contained dozens of monitors covering every corner of the property.

Entrances.

Hallways.

Private rooms.

The library.

The gardens.

Every movement inside the Moretti estate was recorded.

That was not because I didn't trust people.

It was because I trusted systems more.

People changed.

Technology remembered.

Marco entered a security code.

The large screen turned on.

"Three days ago," he said.

The footage appeared.

The date was displayed.

The library.

I watched silently.

The room appeared exactly as I remembered.

The white roses.

The crystal vase.

The sunlight coming through the windows.

Then Isabella entered.

Sophia followed carrying a tray.

Nothing seemed unusual.

For almost thirty seconds, they simply stood there.

Then Isabella said something.

No sound.

The audio had been removed.

I looked at Marco.

"Why is there no audio?"

His expression hardened.

"Because someone deleted that too."

My jaw tightened.

"Continue."

The footage moved.

Isabella pointed toward the flowers.

Sophia said something.

Then Isabella stepped closer.

Too close.

Sophia backed away.

I leaned toward the screen.

My eyes narrowed.

Because I had seen that movement before.

Someone cornering another person.

Someone making sure they controlled the space.

Then Isabella reached out.

Her hand grabbed Sophia's wrist.

Emma's words came back immediately.

"She held Mommy here."

The room became silent.

The footage continued.

Sophia tried to pull away.

Isabella said something.

Then the vase fell.

The sound was missing.

But I saw everything.

The sudden movement.

The broken glass.

The flowers scattered across the floor.

The same scene I had walked into.

The same scene Isabella had explained.

Except now I was watching it from another angle.

She hadn't accidentally hit the vase.

She had moved toward it.

She had caused it.

Sophia covered her wrist.

Isabella looked around.

Then she saw the camera.

My breathing slowed.

Because she knew.

She knew she was being recorded.

Marco paused the video.

"Look at her."

I didn't answer.

I was already looking.

Isabella wasn't shocked.

She wasn't afraid.

She simply stared directly at the camera.

Then she walked toward the corner of the room.

Toward the security device.

The footage froze.

Her face filled the screen.

My future wife looking directly into the camera.

Directly at me.

"She knew," Sophia whispered.

I turned.

"What?"

Sophia looked terrified.

"She knew about the cameras."

Marco nodded.

"That's why the file was deleted."

I looked back at the screen.

"How did you recover it?"

Marco hesitated.

That hesitation bothered me.

"Marco."

He looked at me.

"The file wasn't completely deleted."

"Why?"

"Because someone copied it before Isabella removed it."

I frowned.

"Who?"

Marco didn't answer immediately.

That worried me more than anything.

"Who copied the footage?"

He looked toward Sophia.

Then Emma.

Then me.

"I don't know."

The answer was impossible.

Marco knew everything about my security system.

He knew every employee.

Every access code.

Every person allowed inside this room.

"You are telling me someone entered my security archive, copied evidence against my future wife, and disappeared?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

Marco looked at the frozen image of Isabella.

"Because maybe they wanted you to find it."

The room went quiet.

A warning feeling moved through me.

This was bigger than Isabella hurting Sophia.

Someone had planned this.

Someone had waited until my wedding day.

Someone had chosen Emma as the person who would stop everything.

I looked at the little girl standing beside Sophia.

"Emma."

She looked up.

"Did anyone tell you to talk to me?"

She shook her head.

"No."

"Did anyone give you the ribbon?"

Her eyes moved toward her wrist.

"The lady gave it to Mommy."

My expression changed.

"What lady?"

Emma looked toward the security screen.

Toward Isabella's frozen face.

Then she whispered:

"The same lady."

Sophia immediately covered her mouth.

"No."

I turned.

"What?"

Sophia stepped backward.

"That can't be."

"Who gave you the ribbon?"

Her hands started shaking.

"I don't know her name."

"Describe her."

Sophia looked terrified.

"She came to the house two weeks ago."

"Why?"

"She wanted to talk about Isabella."

The room became colder.

"What did she say?"

Sophia swallowed.

"She said..."

Her voice broke.

"She said if Isabella married you, you would never see the truth."

I stared at her.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Sophia looked at Emma.

"Because she threatened my daughter."

Nobody spoke.

Then Marco's phone vibrated.

Once.

A single notification.

He looked down.

His face changed immediately.

"Boss."

I turned.

"What?"

Marco slowly lifted the phone.

A message appeared.

No number.

No name.

Just four words.

CHECK THE SECOND CAMERA.

I looked back at the security monitors.

The library footage was still frozen.

The image of Isabella staring into the camera remained on the screen.

Marco moved quickly.

He switched to another recording.

A hidden angle.

A camera I didn't know existed.

The screen went black for two seconds.

Then the footage loaded.

The timestamp appeared.

Three days earlier.

Same room.

Same moment.

But this camera was not showing Isabella.

It was showing someone else.

Someone standing outside the library door.

Someone who had watched everything happen.

Someone who had been there before I arrived.

Marco zoomed in.

May you like

The person slowly turned toward the camera.

And I recognized the face.
