Chapter 6 - The Man Who Controlled Everything

The warehouse door opened slowly.

I stood there, waiting.

My entire body was tense.

I expected my father.

I expected someone sent by him.

But the person standing in the doorway was someone I never thought I would see again.

"Claire."

She looked exhausted.

Her hair was messy.

Her clothes were dirty.

There was fear in her eyes.

Not guilt.

Fear.

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

Then she stepped inside and closed the door behind her.

"You shouldn't have come here."

I stared at her.

"You're the one who told me to find the evidence."

Her eyes filled with regret.

"I know."

"Then explain."

She looked down.

"I wanted you to find the truth."

"Then why did you hide from me?"

She didn't answer immediately.

Because the answer was probably worse than I imagined.

Finally, she whispered:

"Because your father threatened everyone I cared about."

I looked at her carefully.

"You were working with him."

Her face changed.

Pain.

Not anger.

Pain.

"No."

I didn't move.

"Then why were you in the photos?"

"Because I was trying to get close enough to find proof."

She took a small drive from her pocket.

"I spent three years collecting everything."

I looked at the drive.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because every person who tried to expose him disappeared from your life."

I froze.

"What do you mean?"

Claire looked around the warehouse.

Then she said:

"Your father didn't just control your company."

She stepped closer.

"He controlled your entire family."

I felt a chill.

"Brianna."

Claire nodded.

"He used her debt to keep her silent."

"My mother."

"He used her guilt."

"And you?"

Claire looked away.

"He used my loyalty to you."

The answer hurt.

Because it meant everything was connected.

Every strange moment.

Every unexplained decision.

Every time someone stayed quiet.

My father wasn't just reacting.

He was managing.

Controlling.

Planning.

I looked at the drive.

"What is on this?"

"The original records."

"Original records of what?"

"Everything."

She took a breath.

"The investors. The debt. The fake penalties. The company takeover plan."

She looked directly at me.

"And the reason your mother recorded those videos."

I stepped closer.

"Tell me."

Claire hesitated.

Then she said:

"Your mother found out your father was planning to use your company to cover something much bigger."

"What?"

She looked at me.

"Money laundering."

The words hit harder than I expected.

My father wasn't trying to steal my company because it was valuable.

He needed it because it was clean.

A successful business.

Real customers.

Real payments.

A perfect place to hide illegal money.

I remembered every time my father asked about my financial reports.

Every time he wanted to know my contracts.

Every time he said he was "protecting my future."

He wasn't protecting me.

He was preparing to use me.

"What about Brianna?"

Claire looked toward the broken phone on the ground.

"She discovered the truth."

"That's why she disappeared."

"Yes."

I felt anger rising.

"My father destroyed his own daughters' lives."

Claire nodded.

"He didn't see you as his daughters."

She paused.

"He saw you as assets."

The word made me sick.

I picked up the folder again.

The medical records.

The contracts.

The evidence.

Everything pointed to one person.

My father.

But there was still one question.

"Why did he wait until now?"

Claire looked at me.

"Because your company became too valuable."

"How valuable?"

"More than ten million dollars."

I stared at her.

Ten million.

Everything I built.

Everything I sacrificed.

He wanted to take it all.

Then my phone rang.

Unknown number.

Claire immediately looked worried.

"Don't answer."

I looked at the screen.

"Why?"

"Because he knows we're together."

My blood ran cold.

"How?"

Claire looked toward the warehouse cameras.

Then I noticed them.

Small red lights.

Recording.

Someone was watching.

I answered.

My father's voice came through.

"You always were stubborn."

I didn't speak.

He continued.

"I gave you a chance."

"You destroyed my company."

"No."

His voice was calm.

"You destroyed your own future when you refused to help your family."

I almost laughed.

"Family?"

I looked at Claire.

Then at the evidence.

"You used all of us."

There was silence.

Then my father said:

"You're finally understanding."

My hands tightened.

"Where is Brianna?"

Another pause.

"Safe."

"Let me talk to her."

"No."

My heart raced.

"Why?"

"Because Brianna has a decision to make."

I felt my stomach drop.

"What decision?"

My father laughed softly.

"The same decision you refused to make."

I understood.

He wanted her to choose.

Betray me.

Or suffer.

"You don't get to do this anymore."

My father's voice became colder.

"You still think you are in control."

The call ended.

I looked at Claire.

"What does he mean?"

She didn't answer.

That scared me more.

"Claire."

She slowly opened her bag.

Inside was another folder.

Thicker.

Older.

She handed it to me.

"I never wanted you to see this."

I opened it.

Inside was a legal agreement.

My name.

My signature.

But I had never signed it.

I looked at Claire.

"What is this?"

Her face turned pale.

"Your father forged your documents."

I flipped through the pages.

There were contracts transferring ownership rights.

My company.

My brand.

My future.

All being moved away from me.

The date was one week before my parents demanded I sell.

He had already started.

Before the confrontation.

Before the destruction.

He had already planned to take everything.

Then I saw something else.

A witness signature.

Someone who verified the documents.

Someone who claimed I personally approved them.

My hands froze.

Because I knew the name.

It was someone close to me.

Someone who had access to my home.

Someone who knew my schedule.

Someone who knew every weakness in my life.

Claire saw my expression.

"You know who it is."

I couldn't speak.

Because I did.

The person who helped my father create the fake documents.

The person who had been near me every day.

The person I never suspected.

My phone buzzed again.

This time, it wasn't a call.

It was a message.

A photo appeared.

It showed my father standing beside Brianna.

But behind them was another person.

The person who signed the documents.

The person who betrayed me.

The message underneath said:

"Come to the old office if you want to know who really started this."

Claire grabbed my arm.

"No."

I looked at her.

"What?"

She stared at the picture.

Her face lost all color.

"That's impossible."

"Who is it?"

She whispered the name.

And before she finished, the warehouse lights suddenly turned off.

Complete darkness.

Then a voice came from behind us.

A voice I recognized.

May you like

A voice that made Claire step backward.

"You were never supposed to find this room."
