Chapter 13 - Three Sisters

“Lena.”
Serena froze.
Her mother began crying.
“Elena.”
The woman on stage nodded.
Sofia ran toward her.
The sisters embraced.
For a moment, years of secrets disappeared.
Then Elena revealed the final truth.
She had not been raised by Viktor.
She had escaped him as a teenager.
She spent years gathering evidence.
She had been the anonymous source who warned Roman about threats.
She had also been the person who sent the photographs.
Serena looked at Roman.
“You knew someone was helping you.”
“Yes.”
“You didn't know it was her?”
“No.”
Elena smiled.
“He never saw my face.”
She handed Roman a file.
Inside were recordings.
Antonio.
Viktor.
Judges.
Police officials.
Everything.
“This can bring down the entire network.”
Roman looked at Serena.
“What do you want to do?”
She answered before anyone else.
“Tell the truth.”
They released the evidence.
Within weeks, investigations began.
People who had controlled the city for decades were questioned.
Roman testified.
Adrian testified.
Antonio surrendered.
Viktor was arrested.
Serena's family finally had answers.
But there was one thing she still needed.
She found Roman on the hotel balcony.
The same balcony where everything had begun.
He stood alone.
She approached.
He turned.
“I owe you an apology.”
“You've given me many.”
“I have another.”
She smiled.
He took her hand.
“In public.”
She looked at their joined hands.
“You're sure?”
Roman nodded.
“I spent six years hiding the woman I loved.”
Serena stepped closer.
“I thought you were ashamed of me.”
“I was ashamed of myself.”
He kissed her forehead.
Behind them, the ballroom doors opened.
Guests began entering.
Roman didn't release her hand.
Instead, he raised it gently.
Then he noticed someone standing across the room.
A man from his past.
The man's expression was terrified.
He held a folder.
Roman's smile disappeared.
The man mouthed one sentence:
May you like
“Your father never died.”
Roman turned toward Serena...
