Chapter 11 - The Man Behind the Twenty Million

Weller did not expect Liam's men.
The elevator closed before they could reach him.
Simon’s daughter, Anna, was pulled inside.
She was twenty-three.
Terrified.
Alive.
“My father lied about my death to protect me.”
Harper understood immediately.
Simon had sacrificed his reputation, perhaps his life, to hide her.
Anna removed the ring.
Inside was the second cancellation key.
Elena supplied the first.
Vale's key remained missing.
Harper searched his records.
Vale had hidden it in the last place anyone expected.
Inside the legal incorporation documents of the Consortium itself.
At 00:03:17 remaining, Harper entered the full key.
The countdown stopped.
Everyone exhaled.
But Harper did not.
“We shouldn't destroy the ledger.”
Mateo nodded.
“No.”
“We release the crimes. Protect the innocent information.”
Anna offered to help.
Together they spent hours separating evidence.
At dawn, federal warrants began.
Richard Weller disappeared.
His companies froze.
Three judges resigned.
Two banking executives were arrested.
The Consortium began collapsing.
Mateo expected victory.
Harper knew better.
Weller still had one move.
It came at 9:00 a.m.
A video appeared online.
Mateo ordering Simon's death.
Except Mateo had never done it.
Deepfake.
Harper proved manipulation within an hour.
But public damage spread faster than corrections.
Then another video appeared.
Mateo and Harper arguing months earlier.
Real footage.
Private.
Someone had been recording them inside Mateo's home long before Harper discovered the theft.
The Consortium had watched everything.
Harper felt violated.
Mateo felt something worse.
Responsible.
“This happened because of me.”
“No.”
“They watched you because you were close to me.”
“They targeted me because I found their numbers.”
“I brought you into this world.”
“I accepted the job.”
“You didn't accept this.”
Harper took his hand.
“Stop deciding what I regret.”
Mateo looked at her.
“I don't regret you.”
The words hung between them.
Harper realized she meant them.
Not anymore.
Their son slept nearby.
Mateo kissed her.
Slowly.
Carefully.
It was not forgiveness.
But it was the beginning of it.
Then Gabriel entered.
“Sorry.”
“You don't look sorry,” Mateo said.
“I'm not.”
He placed a photograph down.
Weller had been found.
At the old Falcone house.
Mateo prepared to leave.
Harper stopped him.
“He wants you angry.”
“I am angry.”
“That's the point.”
She went with him.
At the house, Weller sat alone in Antonio Falcone's old study.
No guards.
No weapon visible.
“You finally came,” he said.
Mateo stood across from him.
“You killed my father.”
Weller smiled.
“No.”
Elena entered behind them.
Weller looked at her.
“Tell him.”
Mateo turned.
Elena's face collapsed.
“Mother?”
Weller leaned back.
“Your father wasn't murdered by the Consortium.”
Mateo stared at Elena.
She whispered, “Mateo…”
“Who killed him?”
Elena began crying.
Weller answered for her.
“Your brother did.”
Mateo slowly turned toward Gabriel.
May you like
Gabriel had just entered the doorway.
And there was a gun in his hand.
