Chapter 4 - The Showdown

The weight of Victoria's secret hung heavy in the room. Nathan looked at his wife—the woman he had loved for over a decade. The anger that had been simmering inside him dissolved into a profound, protective fury. She hadn't lied out of malice; she had been trapped in a nightmare created by a vengeful predator, trying desperately to shield her husband's reputation and her daughter's life.
"He told me that if I said anything to you, his people would execute those wire transfers and ruin your life forever," Victoria whispered. "That's why I panicked. I was terrified Lily would say something to the neighbors or the doctor before I could figure out how to stop him. I said terrible things to her out of sheer, blinding panic. I hurt our little girl's heart because I was terrified of losing her."
Nathan stood up, walked over to Victoria, and pulled her into his arms. She collapsed against his chest, crying uncontrollably.
"We are not going to run, and we are not going to let him control us," Nathan said firmly, his voice steady as iron. "He thinks he's dealing with a helpless victim. He doesn't know who he's dealing with now."
Nathan immediately contacted an attorney he trusted from his corporate dealings in Atlanta, along with a contact in the FBI’s regional field office. With Mr. Henderson's high-definition video evidence clearly showing Julian assaulting Victoria and attempting to kidnap Lily, the narrative Julian had crafted began to crumble rapidly.
The FBI agent confirmed what Victoria hadn't known: Julian was already under active surveillance for violating his parole and attempting to extort multiple former associates. The threat regarding the forged financial paper trail was a desperate bluff—the authorities were already aware of Julian's fraudulent attempts to frame Nathan.
However, Julian didn't know the trap was closing in.
The following evening, under the guidance of law enforcement, Victoria agreed to meet Julian at an abandoned marina outside Savannah under the pretense of handing over a cash payoff to leave the family forever.
Nathan insisted on being there. Positioned safely with federal agents in an unmarked van nearby, Nathan watched through thermal monitors as Julian stepped out from behind a rusted warehouse.
Julian smiled, a cold, arrogant sneer as Victoria approached with a duffel bag. "Always the dutiful sister," Julian sneered. "Where's that perfect husband of yours? Does he know his whole life is built on a lie?"
"He knows everything," Victoria said, her voice ringing clear and strong in the humid night air. "And he knows you have nothing left."
Julian’s smile vanished. Before he could react, federal tactical vehicles flooded the marina with blinding spotlights. Armed agents stepped out, weapons raised.
